Chapter 9 - Collapse At The Airport

Chapter 9

Collapse at the Airport

Airports were designed for movement.

Arrivals. Departures. Goodbyes spoken quickly so they wouldn't hurt too much.

Ariana stood beneath the high glass ceiling of the international terminal, her suitcase beside her, her coat wrapped neatly around her frame.

No one looking at her would guess she was walking away from a billion-dollar marriage.

No one would guess she was carrying the future of the Wolfe dynasty beneath her heart.

And no one would guess how close she was to breaking.

The departure board flickered.

Zurich — Boarding in 45 minutes.

Forty-five minutes until she stepped onto a plane and erased herself from Damian Wolfe's immediate reach.

Six months until the divorce was finalized.

Six months until she legally stopped being Ariana Wolfe.

Her hand drifted to her abdomen instinctively.

"I'm doing this for you," she whispered under her breath.

The baby had been her reason.

Her strength.

Her quiet rebellion.

She would not raise her child in a home where trust was fragile and love was conditional.

She would not allow her child to grow up as leverage in a corporate war.

The terminal felt warmer than it should.

Or maybe it was just her.

She hadn't slept.

Hadn't eaten properly.

Hadn't stopped thinking.

Her body had been running on adrenaline for days.

Now that she was finally leaving…

The adrenaline was fading.

She adjusted her grip on her passport and began walking toward the private security entrance.

One step.

Then another.

The polished floors reflected her heels in sharp, distorted lines.

Her breathing felt shallow.

The overhead announcements blurred into white noise.

Boarding call for Flight 247…

Last call for passengers traveling to—

Her vision flickered.

She blinked.

The world tilted slightly to the left.

She steadied herself against the handle of her suitcase.

Not now.

Please not now.

Her heart pounded too loudly in her ears.

Her skin felt cold despite the heat of the terminal.

A wave of nausea rose violently.

She swallowed it down.

Just get through security.

Just sit down.

Just breathe.

Ariana took another step.

The lights above her seemed brighter suddenly.

Too bright.

Her fingers trembled.

Her hand pressed harder against her abdomen.

"I'm okay," she murmured faintly.

But her body disagreed.

The sound around her stretched and distorted.

Conversations slowed.

Footsteps echoed strangely.

Her knees weakened.

The suitcase slipped from her grasp.

It fell with a heavy thud against the marble floor.

Several heads turned.

She tried to bend to pick it up—

But the ground rushed toward her instead.

And then—

Darkness.

When consciousness returned, it did so slowly.

Like surfacing through deep water.

There were voices.

Muted.

Concerned.

"…fainted…"

"…pulse is stable…"

"…call airport medical…"

Ariana's eyelids fluttered open.

The ceiling above her was unfamiliar.

Not glass.

Not high and grand.

But low and white.

A medical room.

Her throat felt dry.

Her head heavy.

"You're awake," a calm voice said gently.

A woman in a white coat leaned into view.

"You collapsed in the terminal. Do you remember?"

The airport.

The lights.

The fall.

"Yes," Ariana whispered.

"You're safe," the doctor assured her. "You were severely lightheaded. Likely exhaustion, dehydration… possibly stress."

Stress.

That word almost made her laugh.

Her hand immediately moved to her stomach.

The gesture was automatic.

Protective.

The doctor noticed.

"We ran preliminary checks," she said softly. "Just to be thorough."

Ariana's breath caught.

"And?"

The doctor's expression softened.

"Your blood pressure dipped suddenly. But you're stable now."

"And the baby?" Ariana asked quietly.

There was a pause.

A small, knowing smile appeared on the doctor's face.

"Well," she said gently, adjusting the ultrasound monitor beside the bed, "that's actually the interesting part."

Ariana's heart began to race again — but this time from fear.

"Is something wrong?"

"No," the doctor reassured her quickly. "Not wrong. Just unexpected."

She turned the monitor slightly so Ariana could see.

A grainy black-and-white image filled the screen.

Two small shapes.

Close together.

Tiny.

Fragile.

Alive.

Ariana blinked.

Her brain struggled to process what she was seeing.

"I don't understand," she whispered.

The doctor's smile widened.

"Congratulations, Mrs. Wolfe."

The title hit differently now.

"You're carrying twins."

Silence filled the room.

Not empty silence.

Stunned silence.

Twins.

Two heartbeats.

Two lives.

Her hand trembled as it pressed more firmly against her abdomen.

Two.

Not one.

Two children.

Two heirs.

Two futures.

Tears slipped down her temples before she even realized she was crying.

"Are they…" her voice broke slightly, "are they healthy?"

"So far, yes," the doctor confirmed. "Strong heart activity. But you must reduce stress immediately. Your body needs rest."

Twins.

The word echoed through her like thunder.

She had prepared herself to protect one child.

To fight for one future.

But this—

This was destiny reshaped.

Her chest rose and fell unevenly.

Two babies.

Growing quietly inside her while the world outside believed her marriage was ending cleanly.

The weight of it was overwhelming.

The power of it even more so.

The Wolfe dynasty had no idea.

Damian had no idea.

No one knew that the woman who collapsed anonymously in an airport terminal was carrying not just one heir—

But two.

Ariana wiped her tears slowly.

Her mind began shifting from shock to clarity.

Two children meant twice the responsibility.

Twice the secrecy.

Twice the reason to leave.

She looked back at the screen.

Two tiny flickers.

Two steady heartbeats.

Her heart steadied with them.

"You're stronger than you realize," the doctor said gently.

Ariana nodded faintly.

Yes.

She would have to be.

Because now this wasn't just about heartbreak.

Or pride.

Or escape.

It was about survival.

For both of them.

All three of them.

Outside the medical room, passengers continued boarding flights.

Planes continued departing.

The world continued moving.

But inside that quiet white room—

Everything had changed.

Ariana Vale had boarded the airport alone.

She would leave carrying two secrets powerful enough to shake an empire.

And the man who thought he was preparing for divorce…

Had no idea he was about to become the father of twins.
