The children were already gathering their things — Small bags, a few clothes, and some toys. Not much. They hadn't brought much when they came, and they weren't taking much now.
Darian leaned against the cracked wall of the courtyard, watching them. His gray eyes moved from child to child, counting and checking.
Kyle stood apart, his hands were no longer stiff, and most of his injuries were healed.
The healing potion Darian gave him had a strong effect. Plus, his command to speed up his cells' healing also helped. All of that boosted the speed of his recovery.
Today was the day.
They were leaving the Realm. Finally. After months of hiding, after Lilian's death, after the battle that nearly killed him — they were getting out.
Darian had explained it simply. "We need to move while I'm still strong. Once my month ends, the Towers won't hesitate to come back. And next time, they might bring more than two."
