"WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?!"
The roar echoed off the high vaulted ceilings of the estate's foyer, vibrating in my very bones. I had never seen Adrian like this. Not even during our worst childhood spats. He looked crazed, his tie ripped or hanging loose, his chest heaving under his crisp white shirt. He looked murderous.
I flinched, my back pressing against the cold mahogany of the front door. My hands were shaking so violently I had to hide them behind my back. "Adrian, please—"
"Do you have any idea what this looks like?!" He stormed toward me, stopping only inches away. He shoved his hands through his hair, disheveling the perfect coiffure he'd had all morning. "We know the truth! I'm the one who hunted you down! I'm the one who forced this marriage! But to the outside world, to the board, to the press…..you're the grifter. You're the liar who seduced a billionaire to erase her sins!"
"I didn't lie to you!" I yelled back, my voice cracking. "I just.…..I didn't want you to know!"
