The burning flagship of the conquest line split down its central seam with a flat, final roar that pushed a wall of black soot across the courtyard. The Void-Galleon cleared the sinking metal carcass, its lower timber beams catching on the jagged debris before dropping into the next layer of the fortress belly. There was no open ground beyond the gates. The primary basalt road dissolved instantly at the margin of the inner courtyard, giving way to a massive, floating labyrinth where the ground and sky were formed from giant, overlapping iron maps.
These plates were miles wide, suspended in the brass air by heavy iron chains that jerked and ground against each other. Across the metal sheets, glowing red geometric lines shifted like boiling blood, constantly tracing and rewriting routes, flank points, and ambush vectors.
