Chapter 20 - First Trail - IV

The rocky shore of the prehistoric river ceased to exist in the realm. As Silas, the Avatar of Death, raised his jagged daggers, the light of the Savage Lands was devoured. The rushing water of the river turned pitch black, and the roaring sound of the rapids was muted, replaced by a suffocating silence.

[System Warning: Hostile Domain 'The Silent Grave' has fully manifested!]

[Conceptual Law Enforced: Absolute Endings.]

[Warning: Host's Vitality is being passively drained by 1% per second.]

Ren Hanshin stood in the center of the encroaching void. The Embrace of the Weaver thumped defensively, its crimson threads shimmering like hot iron, but the coat was designed to block magical and physical impacts. It could not block a conceptual law. The air Ren breathed was rotting his cells.

Silas hovered an inch above the blackened stones, his bandaged form drifting like smoke.

'You are a Demigod of raw power, Ren Hanshin,' Silas's dry, rotting whisper echoed inside Ren's skull. 'But power requires a medium. In the grave, there is no medium. There is only the inevitable end. Watch your immense vitality rot away. I do not even need to cut you to win.'

The crimson chat box tore through the darkness, radiating a red light that fought back the shadows around Ren's face.

[WARNING: CONSTELLATION 'GOD OF FATE' IS VEHEMENTLY REJECTING THE DOMAIN!]

[God of Fate]: HE IS TOUCHING YOUR LIFE FORCE! HE IS STEALING WHAT BELONGS TO ME!

[God of Fate]: I will reach down and rip his soul through his throat! I will unmake the concept of Death itself!

Ren felt a terrifying surge of divine mana gathering above the continent. The Goddess was preparing to hack the Savage Lands and obliterate Silas from orbit.

"Don't," Ren said aloud, his voice sounding hollow and distorted as the Domain of Silence tried to eat his words. "I need this. If I can't break a conceptual law on my own, I will die in the draft."

The red text vibrated furiously, fighting a losing battle against her own psychotic protective instincts.

[God of Fate]: ...Ten seconds. I give you ten seconds. If he breathes after that, I am stepping in.

Ren didn't have time to argue. His skin was already growing pale as the necrotic domain leeched his life force.

He gripped the scythe and slammed the blunt end of its handle onto the blackened rocks.

"Domain Activation," Ren commanded, pushing his massive Divine Mana outward. "The Executioner's Block."

A sphere of blood red energy erupted from Ren's body. But unlike the previous times he had cast it, the red sphere did not push the darkness away. It didn't shatter Silas's domain. The Universal Livestream System could not process two conflicting laws occupying the same coordinates.

The air glitched. The pitch-black darkness and the blood light marbled together, swirling like oil and water, creating a nauseating, chaotic visual distortion.

[SYSTEM ERROR!]

[Domain Overlap Detected. Physics Engine Override.]

[Creating 'Paradox Zone'.]

[Collab Stream initiated. Both Conceptual Laws are now active.]

The gravity in the Paradox Zone multiplied by thirty. Silas, who had been confidently hovering above the ground, was expeditiously slammed down into the rocks. The Avatar of Death let out a silent gasp as his legs buckled, the crushing weight of Ren's divine authority forcing him to his knees. The rocks beneath him cracked and pulverized into dust.

"What... is this?!" Silas's telepathic voice spiked with panic. "Your Domain... it didn't overwrite mine! Why am I being crushed?!"

"Welcome to the Paradox," Ren said, his crimson eyes burning in the vortex of red and black void. "You rot my life. I crush your bones. Let's see who dies first."

Ren didn't wait for the gravity to finish the job. He activated his Divine Agility. He crossed the distance between them, bringing the crimson scythe down toward Silas' bandaged neck. But Silas was a high level legendary avatar for a reason.

Despite the agonizing thirty fold gravity, Silas' body vanished into black ink just as the scythe passed through him. The blade struck the ground, cleaving a fissure into the bedrock, but it hit no flesh.

Ren immediately spun around, pulling his scythe back into a defensive guard.

"You are fast, anomaly," Silas whispered from the shadows whirling around Ren. "But I am not a physical being inside this domain. I am the shadow itself."

Suddenly, a jagged dagger formed from the pitch black ground beneath Ren's feet. It didn't aim for Ren's body. It aimed for the dark shadow cast by Ren's boots in the red light. The dagger plunged into Ren's shadow.

A freezing agony shot up Ren's left leg. The Embrace of the Weaver didn't pulse. Silas had assassinated Ren's shadow, transferring the necrotic rot into Ren's soul.

Ren grunted, stumbling backward as his left leg went numb. The flesh beneath his pants turned a sickly, bruised purple as the necrosis spread.

[Warning: Critical Necrosis detected in the Host's vessel!]

[Divine Vitality is combating the infection, but the rot is conceptual.]

[God of Fate]: HE HURT YOU! HE HURT MY KING!

[God of Fate]: TIME IS UP! I AM INTERVENING!

The sky above the Paradox Zone began to crack with crimson lightning.

"I SAID NO!" Ren roared, pouring his mana into the connection to block her. "I have it! I see the thread!"

Ren forced himself to stand upright, dragging his rotting left leg. Jubei's lessons echoed in his mind. 'Power without control is just a loud noise. Do not strike the weapon. Strike the concept.'

Silas was hiding within the shadows, using them to destroy Ren's physical defenses. If the shadow was the medium for the attack, then the shadow was the weakness. Ren raised the Severance of Destiny. He didn't look for Silas in the darkness. He looked down at his own feet. He concentrated his Divine Mana into the crystallized blood blade, activating its terrifying property.

"Third Form," Ren whispered, his crimson eyes locking onto the dark silhouette attached to his boots. "The Sovereign's Guillotine."

Ren swung the scythe downward, slicing precisely across the ground at his own heels. The razor thin crescent of crimson light severed the connection between Ren and his own shadow. The dark silhouette on the ground abruptly detached from him. It shriveled and burned away into ash.

Silas, hiding within the darkness of the domain, let out a scream of horror. "Impossible! You cut your own shadow?! You severed my power?!"

With his shadow gone, the link transferring the necrosis was broken. The overwhelming regenerative power of his Divine Vitality, boosted by the Goddess' tear, rushed into his leg. The purple bruising faded in seconds, restoring his mobility.

"You rely too much on the dark," Ren said coldly.

Without a shadow, Ren no longer cast a darkness for Silas to manipulate. He was disconnected from the Avatar of Death's domain rules. But Silas was still trapped under the thirty fold gravity of Ren's Executioner's Block.

Ren closed his eyes, extending his Divine Perception. He felt the groaning of the pulverized rocks. He felt the location where the gravity was crushing the concentration of dark mana. He simply turned his body and hurled the scythe like a spinning spear. The Severance of Destiny tore through the Paradox Zone, a blur of spinning crimson light. It struck a patch of empty darkness twenty yards away.

THWACK!!

The silence of the domain was shattered by a sickening crunch of bone. The whirling black ink vanished, revealing Silas' physical body. The Avatar of Death was pinned to the ground, the crimson blade buried in his chest, severing his heart and his spine perfectly.

The bandaged man coughed up a spray of red blood. The crushing gravity of Ren's domain pinned him so hard he couldn't even lift his hands to grasp the scythe handle.

"My Lord..." Silas gurgled, looking up at the red sky. "I... failed..."

Silas's head fell back, and his body began to turn into grey ash.

[Target Eliminated: Legendary Avatar 'Silas'.]

[The God of Death is howling in unfathomable fury!]

The moment Silas died, his law broke, the Paradox Zone collapsed. The darkness shattered like a broken mirror, returning the golden light of the Savage Lands and the rushing sound of the river.

Ren walked forward, pulling his scythe from the ash. A cascade of golden system notifications flooded his vision.

[Paradox Zone Victorious!]

[Concept Assassination Successful!]

[Executing Conceptual Theft...]

[You have permanently absorbed a fragment of the Avatar of Death's cosmic law.]

[New Passive Skill Acquired: 'Necrotic Nullification'. You are now immune to all death, rot, and decay based curses.]

Ren exhaled slowly, dismissing his own Domain. The crushing gravity vanished, leaving a massive crater of pulverized rock along the riverbank. He had done it. He had killed one of the strongest mortals in existence, not just with raw stats, but by understanding and breaking the laws of the universe.

The crimson screen forced its way through the golden system prompts. It was no longer frantic or glitching. It was smooth, elegant, and dripping with an overwhelming devotion.

[The God of Fate is kneeling before her viewing screen.]

[God of Fate]: You severed your own shadow just to deny him a hold on you. You are a masterpiece, Ren Hanshin.

[God of Fate]: They thought they could send an assassin to kill a God. How pathetic.

[The God of Fate has donated 200,000,000 Karma Points!]

Ren looked at the absurd number of Karma Points. He was accumulating wealth that could buy planets, and it meant nothing to him.

[God of Fate]: But do not rest yet, my King.

[God of Fate]: The God of War just saw what you did to his colleague. He is not going to send assassins. He is going to send an army.

Ren looked up at the golden sky. The broadcast of his Paradox Zone victory had just been transmitted to every single avatar left in the Savage Lands, and to every sovereign in the Pantheon. He was no longer just the Blood-Soaked Tyrant. He was the anomaly that had officially dethroned death.

"Let him send an army," Ren whispered, resting the crimson scythe on his shoulder as he turned his gaze toward the volcanoes in the center of the continent. "I have plenty of gravity left."
