Chapter 32 - Chapter - 32. Lucier's unforgettable gift

However, as she stood near the towering buffet tables, a deeply perplexing, unsettling realization suddenly hit her.

Neither the King nor the Queen had ordered the musicians to stop playing, and none of the noble guests would ever dare to abruptly interrupt the royal orchestra.

So exactly who could it possibly have been? Who had silently intervened to save her life? Was it that terrifying, mysterious shadow from her window last night?

Was it someone else entirely, lurking in the dark? Or was it simply a massive, incredibly lucky coincidence?

Before she could dwell on it any longer, the Queen gracefully stepped onto the raised, velvet-draped dais, gently tapping a silver spoon against her crystal goblet to command the immediate attention of the entire room.

'Tonight is a truly joyous occasion, for it is the celebration of my beautiful daughter Isla's seventh birthday,' the Queen announced, her voice echoing warmly throughout the silent hall.

'Now, just as we always do every single year, we all shower her with countless beautiful gifts.

But tonight... tonight we have prepared a gift so grand, so incredibly monumental, that she will absolutely remember it for the rest of her entire life.'

Isla froze entirely, her heart skipping a terrifying beat.

''Wait... remember it for the rest of my entire life? Why on earth does that exact phrasing sound so incredibly familiar?'' she panicked internally, her mind racing.

''Hold on just one second... is it at all possible that Lucier and my mother are actually talking about the exact same gift?

But what on earth could it possibly be?''

'Therefore,' the Queen continued, her smile widening with absolute joy, 'it brings me immense pride and profound happiness to officially announce tonight that when my precious daughter, Princess Isla, reaches her twentieth year, she will be united in holy matrimony with Prince Lucier!'

The entire grand hall instantly erupted into thunderous, joyous applause.

'That means,' the King boomed proudly, stepping forward to wrap an arm around the Queen, 'it will be the magnificent, historic union of the beloved Princess of the Elephant Kingdom and the noble Prince of the Tiger Kingdom!'

''What?!'' Isla's mind completely shattered.

''No way... absolutely no way, this cannot possibly be happening!'' she screamed internally, her blood turning entirely to ice.

Slowly, she turned her head to look directly at Lucier, who was standing a few feet away amidst the cheering crowd, wearing a sickening, entirely triumphant, and deeply arrogant smile.

''That means this absolute bastard, this vile, scheming son of a bitch, already knew about this entire horrific arrangement beforehand!'' she realized with blinding, venomous fury. ''Is this exactly what he was talking about earlier today?

The grand, unforgettable gift I would remember for the rest of my life?''

Her small fists clenched so tightly her knuckles turned entirely white.

''I desperately need to speak with Mom about this immediately, but I must force myself to remain completely silent right now.

There are far too many powerful, influential people here; if I dare to say even a single word of protest in front of this entire kingdom, it will utterly humiliate my mother and destroy our royal standing.''

She desperately looked toward her father, silently hoping for some sort of objection or rescue, but the King looked just as incredibly happy and immensely proud as the Queen; it was terrifyingly obvious that he had also known about this massive, life-altering arrangement long before the party even began.

It seemed that absolutely everyone in the palace had known about her impending doom, except for her.

The moment the grand celebration finally concluded and the last of the aristocratic guests had departed, Isla immediately stormed into the private royal chambers, her blue eyes blazing with absolute, unyielding defiance.

'Mom, Dad, listen to me very carefully,' she declared firmly, her voice trembling with barely suppressed rage.

'I am absolutely, under no circumstances, going to marry that arrogant, cow-dung-sniffing idiot!'

Both the King and the Queen instantly froze, exchanging deeply shocked, bewildered glances.

'Isla, what on earth are you saying right now?' the Queen asked, her voice laced with sheer disbelief and growing panic.

'We have already given our absolute, unbreakable royal word to Prince Lucier's parents! And not only that, we have just officially announced this sacred union in front of the entire, assembled kingdom! We are royals, my child; once we speak our word and make a promise, it is absolutely set in stone and can never, ever be taken back.'

'But Mom, Dad!' Isla pleaded, her voice cracking slightly.

'Up until this exact day, I have faithfully and obediently listened to every single thing you have ever asked of me, and now it is finally your turn to listen to me!'

'Isla, enough!' the King interrupted, his tone turning incredibly stern and authoritative.

'Lucier is a remarkably fine young man who is entirely of our equal royal standing, and he genuinely cares deeply for your well-being! Did you not witness his immense bravery the other day? He was fully prepared to draw his sword and furiously fight that yellow-eyed swordsman just to protect your honor!

We all clearly saw just how incredibly worried and deeply distressed he was for your safety.'

'But Dad, you don't understand—'

'Isla, I command you to go to your room immediately!' the King thundered, pointing a sharp, unyielding finger toward the heavy oak doors.

'Mom, please, you have to—'

'Isla, your father just gave you a direct command to go to your room,' the Queen stated coldly, her maternal warmth entirely vanishing, replaced by rigid, uncompromising royal authority.

'That means you will go to your room right now.'

Isla stared at them for one long, heartbreaking second before turning on her heel and storming out of the chamber, her heart utterly shattered by their cold, calculated betrayal.

As the heavy doors clicked shut behind her, the King and Queen let out a simultaneous, heavy sigh, moving to sit closely together on the plush velvet sofa.

Their minds drifted backward, forcefully pulling them into a heavy, serious flashback to the exact night they had left Isla completely alone in the palace—the very night Lucier had slyly approached them with a poisoned whisper.

Lucier had masterfully, and with deep, calculated concern, informed them of the rapidly growing, highly inappropriate closeness between their royal daughter and that low-born, commoner boy, Dorian.

''We are royals of the highest, most ancient bloodline,'' the King thought to himself, his jaw clenching as he remembered the sheer, terrifying panic of that night.

''We could never, under any conceivable circumstance, even entertain the horrifying thought of our precious daughter mingling with lowly commoners.

Therefore, we absolutely did the right thing; we made the smartest, most necessary decision at the exact right time to thoroughly protect her majestic future.''
