The system was not usually this vocal about its opinions. So the sudden onslaught of messages made Rin turn his attention to it.
[User, you are starting to violate the limits of your freedom. Please do not make too many changes to the timeline. Otherwise, consequences could become dire for everyone]
[User, think about it. If the world is meant to be at level 1, but suddenly, a level 100 player appears, won't the world's difficulty need to be adjusted? The level 100 player might survive, but what about everyone else?]
[Don't you feel sorry for the chickens and worms that would be crushed by your decision?]
"Ugh, do I have to care about that too? A few trained soldiers surely won't be a big deal."
[A few soldiers won't be a big deal, but too many skilled hunters at this time would raise the difficulty. For the sake of your survival, please reconsider your options to send teams out.]
The system was warning Rin to not make things difficult.
While most people would act in short-term self-interest, Rin had mastered the technique of reading the system's words and extracting information from them.
That was why, he quickly realized that following the system's advice was as much for himself as for everyone else.
"I see. So realistically, how many people can I send out?"
[User, do you really need to send out people? You've already reached your quota and even gotten rewarded for it. Why don't you take it easy for some time?]
The system really wanted Rin and his group out of the next task. But it would be suspicious for Rin not to do anything…
[One or two participants should be acceptable. But user is advised not to send out more. Sometimes, standing out is not a good thing.]
[The system will go on stand-by mode for the next few hours due to urgent meetings with higher-ups. Please do not expect a response for the duration. All grievances will be addressed once the system is back online.]
The screen stood there but the fast-moving text had stopped.
Rin looked at the screen for a minute longer but it did not change. Instead, Collin's stack of papers passed through the screen and appeared in front of him.
"Young Master, this is the resume for the people I have deemed useful for combat and these are for defense. How should we divide them for the next task?"
Collin's sorting method was efficient but there were over 150 applications. Going through it all would take time Rin couldn't spare he did not want to waste.
"Give me the best offensive and defensive hunter to send for the next task. I have a different task for the others to carry out. Do we have any delivery trucks in our possession? I need something fetched."
Collin pulled out a few applications for Rin to take a look at.
"We can divide teams like this. As for the best duo…these two work really well together so instead of sending the people with the best individual performance, how about sending the best duo?"
That made sense and Rin quickly finalized the list with his butler.
Honestly, the more he saw out of his butler, the more suspicious he became. Was it truly normal for a simple house butler to be too capable at these things? He also seemed far too familiar with different fighting styles.
But as long as he was not a threat, his experience was a good thing for Rin. So he purposely chose to overlook it.
"Collin, if you have any grievances, tell me before they fester. Talking can resolve most issues before they become a problem."
Especially if it becomes a problem that could endanger Rin's life.
But his butler only gave the same smile as always.
"I've never had a problem with you, young master. But if I do have one, you will be the first one to know."
That was supposed to sound reassuring, but somehow, it sounded ominous.
[Second task is about to open. Time remaining 10 minutes.]
[Task details: Hunting the Sacred Artefacts…]
The second task was finally here and Rin quickly read through the details. This time, there was a lot of text, but most of it was not useful.
From what Rin read, the useful information could be quickly summed up in five points.
The Sacred Artefact collection was the next task. Each artifact gave the user 500 meter radius protection from the monsters in the apocalypse. This effect could be stacked.People could bury the sacred artefacts in their chosen 'base' area and receive protection in the form of sanctuary. Each scarcity had a size limit which determined how many people it could hold. The number of sacred artefacts was not specified, but it could be obtained by an individual or a group. Those who owned the sacred relic or had the most share in its findings had a chance to become the leader of the sanctuary.Once the sacred relics were buried and sanctuary was established, the 'leader' had sole control over it. This control can be transferred when a new leader is chosen. The way to remove the old leader was to either kill him, or remove him from power.
It sounded complicated, but this was not any different from modern-day politics.
Rin currently had 4 sacred artefacts and he had 100% share in their findings. He had an overwhelming advantage.
Moreover, he doubted anyone would challenge him for the sacred relics' ownership at this point. Everyone trusted him and was ready to follow him.
But this could change with the MC's arrival. The last thing Rin had read in the novel was about MC's plan to slowly take over the settlement and become its leader.
While Rin's sanctuary was not the confirmed no.1, it was among the top locally. There were only two others that could rival him- Mrs. Sherry's Charity and Girl Battle Frontier.
Despite these corny names, those names would become a force to reckon with.
Rin did have plans to propose a partnership with them both in the future, but he needed to work hard to stand on the same level as the other settlement.
[Task two has opened. The hunt for the sacred relics has started. Time remaining 24 hours. Hints for the location of sacred relics will be marked on the map.]
Rin looked at the map and saw the hint show up. This round won't be easy for most people.
