Chapter 93 - Acting Grand Master

Kai didn't have much experience moonlighting as an Acting Grand Master handling official duty, but he knew a lot of things.

Sitting in his wife's usual seat, facing the numerous resident requests before him, Kai took a deep breath.

He quickly picked out a random document and began to review it carefully.

"The drain at the entrance is blocked and often emits a strange odor, affecting my mood when I go out... Is the first request one with a smell?"

"But for such a small matter, couldn't someone just be sent to deal with it? Does it really need to be reported?"

After searching on the table for a while, Kai pulled out the list of today's on-duty personnel and randomly picked a name to assign the task.

"Next is a missing pet cat... Why is another cat missing?"

"Ah, it's a request from Margaret, the owner of the Cat's Tail tavern. Never mind then."

The moment he saw this request, Kai immediately had a strong sense of familiarity and looked directly at the client below, where he indeed saw her name.

In fact, Kai, of course, knew this tavern owner.

Although, as Jean's husband, this owner was a bit more restrained and didn't dare to pull any fancy stunts in front of Kai.

But after all, Mondstadt City was only so big, and there were only so many merchants, so Kai naturally had a lot of contact with her.

The reason Kai remembered her was quite simple: it was purely because of her extremely high rate of losing cats.

"She loses two cats on average a week; does she have to bother the Knights of Favonius every single time?"

Isn't that just constantly bothering Jean?

Kai frowned, a little displeased.

He picked up his pen and wrote: "Suggest raising another one..." then crossed it out.

"Hmm, I'd better just assign someone to find the cat."

He sighed. After all, he was acting on Jean's behalf now. If he actually wrote such a comment, Jean's hard-earned prestige would probably be ruined on the spot. He decided against it.

"Or... should I suggest she try training Diona to be more like a pet?"

"Cough, cough, moving on... 'I want two portions of Mondstadt grilled fish,' the client is 'Manly man'... Jack..."

"That crybaby sissy? How dare he call himself a 'manly man'... Never mind, assign it."

"Moving on... 'I want dandelion seeds,' this client is that blind girl who often appears in the fountain plaza, right? Hmm, then assign it."

"Next one..."

Kai complained and approved these rather boring resident requests, treating it as a way to add some self-entertainment to the monotonous work.

Not far away, Jean happily enjoyed her delicious meal, watching Kai's expressions—sometimes troubled, occasionally muttering, and sometimes smiling.

Her own lips couldn't help but curve into a slight smile.

Savoring the food nearby, occasionally stealing glances at her husband, this feeling seemed quite nice.

And usually, when he waited for her to finish work in the office, Kai must have been secretly watching her from a similar angle, right?

As if recalling how Kai secretly watched her when she was focused on work, Jean's face involuntarily flushed.

At the same time, an unknown emotion quietly emerged within her.

Blushing was one thing, but being so loved by her husband...

She just felt... very happy.

"And Kai looks so good when he's working seriously."

This thought couldn't help but surface in her mind.

Jean thought carefully for a moment.

She continued to savor the delicious food before her.

Hmm... then she shouldn't disturb him; let Kai continue working.

"This way I can watch him a little longer."

That's what Jean thought.

Kai in work mode was a very special, limited edition that she usually never got to see.

With this thought, Jean slowly enjoyed the delicious food he had brought, until half an hour later when she finally showed a very satisfied expression.

Then she collected all the dishes.

Seeing Kai still busy, she thought for a moment.

She turned and brewed a cup of coffee.

At this point, Kai seemed to be quite engrossed in reviewing these documents.

Although resident requests seemed very tedious, Kai could also get a comprehensive sense of the lives of Mondstadt's residents from these documents.

For a time, there was a great deal of novelty.

"Kai, how does work feel?"

A moment later, carrying the coffee, Jean walked over to Kai.

Looking at Kai, who was still earnestly resolving the entrusted tasks, she couldn't help but smile, then stood behind him and gently massaged his shoulders.

Feeling the sudden comfort, Kai, who was immersed in reviewing documents, inevitably came back to his senses and replied very naturally to his wife's question,

"It feels alright for now, but over time, I might get bored... After all, some of these requests don't really need your personal attention, do they?"

Like clearing a blocked drain or something, just finding someone to help would be enough, yet even such matters had to be reported to the Knights of Favonius for Jean to handle.

"As the Acting Grand Master, spending energy on this is really a bit of a waste... For simple tasks like these, couldn't someone else just take over?"

Although dealing with resident requests might initially feel novel, Jean was the Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius.

She was one of the highest defensive powers in this city-state, and a high-ranking official among the high-ranking officials.

Under these circumstances, having to deal with these trivial matters every day was truly a bit of an overkill.

"Because I don't feel at ease."

Sighing softly, Jean quietly said, using her usual standard answer.

"And… I can't find a suitable person either."

"Lisa?"

Kai subconsciously thought of her.

But the words were cut short as soon as they left his lips.

Forget it.

With her laid-back personality, asking her to do such tedious resident requests would be harder than getting Barbatos to do something serious.

"Then how did Varka deal with these commission quests before? He couldn't have done them himself, could he?"

Kai was very familiar with Varka. Asking that guy to do this kind of paperwork… you might as well hope Lisa helps.

"The Grand Master certainly doesn't need to do these things; he has a subordinate to handle them for him."

Jean added quietly, "I was the Deputy Grand Master at that time."

"Ah, this…"

Kai was momentarily at a loss for words.

Just then… a knock suddenly sounded outside the office, followed by Paimon's voice:

"Acting Grand Master Jean~"
