Chapter 28 - Cohesion

"Let… let Jean help us?"

Paimon was completely stunned.

Floating in mid-air, she looked at Jean, who was questioning Venti not far away, and then at Kai, who seemed to be tasting wine at the bar counter.

She couldn't help but scratch the corner of her mouth with her finger, looking a little guilty.

This was like having Mondstadt's law enforcement officers follow them to do bad things; it was simply too difficult!

"No, today I am not Acting GrandMaster Jean."

While Paimon was in a daze, after talking with Venti, Jean had roughly understood everything.

She then walked towards everyone and said with a faint smile, "Today, I am merely Jean, not the Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius."

"Ah?"

Blinking, Paimon and Lumine exchanged glances.

They still seemed not to have understood.

"Simply put, Jean can come to help, but not in the capacity of the Knights of Favonius; only as an individual… otherwise, it's easy to cause diplomatic disputes, do you understand?"

Seeing the foolish duo of main characters, Kai somehow felt that their intelligence seemed to have been gnawed at because of his presence.

They couldn't even grasp such a simple question?

"Oh… oh, I see."

Lumine truly hadn't reacted, after all, she had just been chased all over Mondstadt by the Knights of Favonius, and then suddenly saw Jean standing in front of her; anyone would panic.

She glanced at Venti, who had already walked over, Lumine slightly organized her thoughts, and then refocused her gaze on Jean.

"So, Miss… Jean."

"Has Venti told you all those things?"

Suddenly changing her address, Lumine was still a bit unaccustomed to it for a while.

"You mean purifying Stormterror with the power of the Holy Lyre der Himmel?"

Jean nodded, "He just explained it to me, and also mentioned that you, Traveler, seem to have the ability to purify abyssal power?"

"Yes."

Saying this, Lumine took out the crystal again.

Unlike what she had seen at their last meeting, the originally dark red Tear of Dvalin crystal had become crystal clear after purification, like a brilliantly crafted jewel.

Carefully examining the gem in front of her, Jean nodded thoughtfully and murmured, "It is indeed so."

Jean had personally seen the Tear of Dvalin last time.

It contained a bizarre energy that was impossible to describe in words; even a slight contact could cause a very strong rejection reaction from a Vision.

And now… this Tear of Dvalin in front of her was perfectly flawless, as if it were naturally formed.

"If you still don't believe it, that's fine. Perhaps this Bard beside you can recount the story again."

"I think that way, it should be able to convince…"

"No, I believe it."

Before Diluc could finish speaking, he heard Jean's reply, which caused his usually cautious image to momentarily collapse, and he was slightly surprised.

"After all, I also cannot imagine a reason for Stormterror to be an enemy of Mondstadt. If it's due to abyssal power infection, then everything can be explained."

Saying that, Jean returned the Tear of Dvalin to her.

"However, due to diplomatic pressure, I obviously cannot say these words as the Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius."

"But if I act privately simply as Jean, perhaps I can help you."

"I never thought that the esteemed Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius would so easily believe a strange outsider and… a peculiar Bard."

Diluc stood calmly by.

Clearly, Jean's answer had somewhat shaken his perception.

"Probably because of… Kai."

Jean smiled at Kai, "I trust his judgment."

"The way you say that, it sounds like if something goes wrong, I'll be fully responsible. I mean, if there's a real accident, will you still arrest me?"

Kai rested his hand on his face, sighing helplessly.

"Of course not, I am the Acting Grand Master."

Jean walked towards Kai with a hint of triumph.

"If I wanted to… I could find countless reasons to release you from Mondstadt's prison."

"This…"

Paimon and Lumine exchanged glances, their faces full of shock.

As for Diluc, his calm expression gradually turned to stone; he had completely not expected to hear such a thing.

Wait, is the person standing before me truly the Jean I remember?

Finding countless reasons to release Kai from prison—is that something Jean, as the Acting Grand Master, would say?

What… what happened?

Diluc was utterly stunned.

"Ah haha… Jean certainly knows how to joke. This matter actually has no risks at all, right?"

Barbatos, standing nearby, really couldn't stand the atmosphere and couldn't help but change the subject.

"After all, it wasn't us who stole the Holy Lyre der Himmel. In a sense, we're just recovering the Holy Lyre der Himmel, a good Mondstadt citizen on the front lines of battle, and… a righteous Bard, ahem!"

"At most, we just used it a little when we were recovering it. That's probably it."

"But our original plan was indeed to steal the Holy Lyre der Himmel, so this still counts as attempted crime, right?"

Paimon floated in the air, muttering softly.

"Don't talk at a time like this. Come on, be a good girl and have some cake."

Kai casually shoved a piece of cake into Paimon's mouth.

Then he looked at Diluc and said, "So, Diluc, about the information on the Holy Lyre der Himmel, can you share it with us?"

"Eh? Master Diluc already knows the location of the Holy Lyre der Himmel?"

Paimon gulped down the cake in a few bites, her tone full of surprise.

"Hmph, of course."

"After all, there are many lone Fatui in the city. It seems perfectly normal to accidentally learn certain information while having a friendly chat with them."

"Was it really a friendly chat?"

Little Paimon felt that what he just said sounded a bit off.

"Hmm, it was probably the kind of friendly chat where you pin the Fatui to the ground and hold a sword to their neck," Kai thought for a moment and said.

"So… so scary."

A picture immediately formed in little Paimon's mind.

She couldn't help but fly behind Lumine, her face full of nervousness.

"Alright, the small talk ends here."

Since he had decided to become a plot driver and send the protagonist group out of Mondstadt as soon as possible, Kai naturally wouldn't delay.

He actively started pushing the plot.

"Next, Diluc can start sharing the information about the Holy Lyre der Himmel."
