Chapter 295 - Chapter 295: The Civilization Beyond the Mountains

The first thing Ayan noticed was the silence.

The soldiers who had invaded the city were still sitting in the streets, eating beside the people they had intended to kill only a few hours ago. Children moved between them without fear, carrying bowls of food from one group to another. Some soldiers were still suspicious, keeping their weapons within reach, while others had already lowered their guard completely.

It should have been peaceful.

Yet Ayan couldn't relax.

The Bridge inside his chest was trembling.

Not violently.

It was more like a distant vibration, the kind one felt before hearing thunder.

Something was coming.

Ayan stood on the city wall and looked toward the western horizon. Beyond the plains was a range of enormous mountains. Their peaks disappeared into clouds, and beneath those mountains stretched a forest so vast that it looked like an ocean of silver leaves.

Nothing moved there.

Then the clouds shifted.

Ayan's eyes narrowed.

A line of black appeared between the mountains.

Then another.

Then hundreds.

Mira climbed onto the wall beside him.

"What do you see?"

"An army."

She looked through her bow's scope.

Her expression changed.

"That's not an army."

Ayan looked at her.

"What?"

"They're too organized."

Below them, Maren was helping move injured soldiers into the medical center. He looked up when he heard Mira's voice.

"How organized?"

Mira lowered her scope.

"Enough to make me uncomfortable."

Doctor Rowan climbed the stairs slowly.

"What is happening?"

Ayan pointed toward the horizon.

"Something is approaching."

Rowan looked.

His face became serious.

"How many?"

"I don't know."

"Thousands?"

"More."

Maren reached the top.

"More than the last army?"

Ayan nodded.

Maren sighed.

"Of course."

Seraphine joined them.

She didn't ask what was happening.

She simply looked toward the horizon.

A few seconds later, she whispered, "They're coming from beyond the mountains."

Ayan nodded.

"Yes."

"They're not from this world?"

"They are."

Seraphine looked at him.

"How do you know?"

"The Bridge."

He closed his eyes.

The silver network expanded through his mind.

The eighth world appeared.

He could see the mountains.

The forests.

The rivers.

The cities.

Then he saw them.

A civilization.

A massive one.

It occupied the entire western side of the world.

Unlike the people of Ayan's city, these beings had existed for generations.

They had built enormous stone cities.

They had roads.

Walls.

Watchtowers.

Factories.

Weapons.

Ships.

Ayan's eyes widened.

"They've been here much longer than us."

Doctor Rowan stared.

"How much longer?"

"At least several hundred years."

Maren looked confused.

"But this world was just born."

Ayan shook his head.

"Not exactly."

He looked toward the mountains.

"The world was born."

"These people were already part of it."

Rowan's eyes narrowed.

"Meaning they weren't created after the world."

"No."

"They were created with it."

Ayan nodded.

The eighth world had not been empty before them.

It had simply been unexplored.

There had always been life beyond the mountains.

Ayan had assumed the city was the beginning of civilization.

He had been wrong.

It was only the beginning of civilization for the people he had met.

Mira looked toward the approaching army.

"Then why are they coming?"

Ayan didn't answer.

Because he already knew.

The Bridge was showing him their emotions.

Fear.

Anger.

Suspicion.

And something else.

Determination.

They weren't invading because they wanted land.

They were coming because something had frightened them.

Something beyond the mountains.

Something that had made an entire civilization mobilize.

Ayan looked toward Kai.

The black-eyed child was standing in the middle of the city.

He was staring toward the mountains.

His expression was unusually serious.

Ayan walked toward him.

"You know something."

Kai looked at him.

"Yes."

"What?"

"They're afraid."

"Of us?"

"No."

Kai looked toward the western horizon.

"Of what is behind them."

Ayan frowned.

"What is behind them?"

Kai didn't answer.

Ayan grabbed his shoulder.

"Kai."

The child looked at him.

"Something that shouldn't exist."

Ayan's expression hardened.

"Another ancient entity?"

"No."

"Another world?"

"No."

"Then what?"

Kai's voice became quiet.

"A mistake."

Ayan stared.

"What mistake?"

Kai looked at him.

"The first civilization."

Ayan's expression changed.

"What?"

Kai pointed toward the mountains.

"They weren't the first."

Ayan felt a chill.

"Then who was?"

Kai shook his head.

"They don't know."

"How can they not know?"

"Because it disappeared."

Ayan looked toward the mountains.

"The first civilization."

Kai nodded.

"It built the cities."

"It created the weapons."

"It learned magic."

"It discovered the world."

"And then..."

Kai paused.

"...it disappeared."

Ayan stared.

"What happened?"

Kai looked toward him.

"They found something."

"What?"

Kai whispered:

"The Door."

Ayan's expression became cold.

The same word again.

Door.

He had spent so much time believing the door beneath the mountain was unique.

It wasn't.

There had been another one.

A door created by the first civilization.

And whatever had been behind it...

had caused them to vanish.

Ayan turned toward the western horizon.

The army was getting closer.

"We need to know what they found."

Kai nodded.

"Yes."

Ayan looked at Seraphine.

"We're going."

She nodded.

Mira immediately stepped forward.

"I'm coming."

Maren sighed.

"Obviously."

Doctor Rowan adjusted his glasses.

"I assume there's no point in asking you to stay."

"No."

Rowan smiled faintly.

"Then I'm coming too."

Ayan looked at Lumen.

The child was standing near Veyra.

"Stay here."

Lumen frowned.

"Why?"

"Because someone needs to protect the city."

Veyra lowered its head.

"I can protect it."

Ayan looked at the dragon.

"Not alone."

Lumen looked toward the approaching army.

Then toward the city.

He understood.

"I'll stay."

Ayan smiled.

"Good."

Lumen nodded.

"But come back."

Ayan's smile softened.

"I will."

They left before sunset.

Ayan, Seraphine, Mira, Maren, and Doctor Rowan traveled west.

The forest became thicker as they moved.

The silver trees were enormous.

Their trunks were wider than houses, and their branches intertwined high above them.

Strange glowing insects moved between the leaves.

Small creatures watched them from the shadows.

Everything in the forest seemed alive.

Yet there was something unsettling about it.

Ayan could feel eyes on them.

Not hostile.

Curious.

The forest itself was watching.

Maren walked beside Mira.

"Do you feel that?"

Mira nodded.

"Yes."

"Something's watching us."

"Several things."

Maren looked around.

"I hate forests."

Mira smiled.

"You say that every time."

"Because forests keep proving me right."

Ayan laughed quietly.

Seraphine looked at him.

"You seem relaxed."

"I am."

"Even now?"

Ayan nodded.

"Yes."

She looked confused.

"Why?"

"Because I don't have to solve everything."

Ayan looked ahead.

"We're just discovering."

Seraphine smiled.

"That's new."

"I know."

They continued.

After several hours, they reached the first mountain.

It was enormous.

The stone was black.

Silver veins ran through it.

Ayan touched the surface.

The Bridge activated.

He immediately pulled his hand back.

"Someone carved this."

Rowan approached.

"What?"

"The mountain."

Rowan stared.

"You mean the veins?"

"No."

Ayan pointed.

"There are symbols beneath the stone."

They began clearing away the rock.

A massive inscription appeared.

Rowan studied it.

"This is older than the civilization we saw."

"Can you read it?"

"Not directly."

He traced the symbols.

"But I recognize the pattern."

"From where?"

"The door beneath our city."

Ayan's expression changed.

"Same creator?"

"Possibly."

Ayan looked toward the mountains.

"Then the Door is nearby."

They continued.

Eventually, they found a massive stone gate.

It was half buried in the mountain.

Seven circles surrounded a central symbol.

Ayan's chest began glowing.

The Key responded.

Seraphine stepped closer.

"That's the same symbol."

Ayan nodded.

"The Door."

Maren looked around nervously.

"Are we sure we want to open this?"

Ayan smiled.

"No."

Maren sighed.

"Then why are we opening it?"

"Because someone already did."

Ayan placed his hand against the center.

The Door reacted.

A deep vibration passed through the mountain.

The seven circles began glowing.

Then the central symbol cracked.

The Door opened.

Cold air rushed out.

Ayan immediately sensed something.

Not evil.

Not good.

Empty.

The chamber beyond was enormous.

Its walls were covered in murals.

The first civilization had recorded everything.

Their birth.

Their discoveries.

Their wars.

Their cities.

Their achievements.

Then Ayan reached the final mural.

His expression changed.

The first civilization stood before a massive black structure.

A Door.

Above it was the same silver eye.

But beneath the eye was something different.

A hand.

A human hand.

Ayan stepped closer.

"That's..."

Seraphine stared.

"What?"

"Someone opened it."

Ayan looked at the mural.

The person standing before the Door looked exactly like him.

Same hair.

Same face.

Same posture.

Ayan's heart stopped.

Mira stepped closer.

"Is that you?"

"No."

Ayan shook his head.

"But..."

He touched the mural.

The Bridge reacted violently.

A memory entered his mind.

Ayan saw the first civilization.

He saw them standing before the Door.

He saw a man walking toward it.

The man turned.

He had Ayan's face.

But his eyes were black.

Kai.

Ayan's expression became pale.

"Kai."

The memory continued.

Kai opened the Door.

The civilization screamed.

Something emerged.

Not a monster.

Not an army.

A world.

A completely separate world.

It poured through the Door.

The first civilization disappeared.

Not killed.

Not destroyed.

Moved.

Ayan watched in horror as millions of people were pulled through.

Cities vanished.

Mountains disappeared.

The entire civilization was transported somewhere else.

The Door closed.

The memory ended.

Ayan stumbled backward.

Seraphine caught him.

"What did you see?"

Ayan looked at her.

"They're not dead."

"Who?"

"The first civilization."

He looked toward the Door.

"They're somewhere else."

Rowan stared.

"Where?"

Ayan's eyes moved toward the seven circles.

"I don't know."

Then the Door opened again.

Not because Ayan touched it.

Because something on the other side opened it.

A sound came through.

Footsteps.

Slow.

Heavy.

Maren raised his weapon.

Mira drew her bow.

Seraphine's blade appeared in her hand.

Ayan stepped forward.

A figure emerged from the darkness.

An old man.

His body was covered in silver markings.

His eyes were black.

He looked at Ayan.

Then smiled.

"You finally came."

Ayan froze.

"Who are you?"

The old man laughed.

"After all this time..."

He looked at Ayan with tears in his eyes.

"...you really don't remember us."

Ayan's expression became cold.

"Who are you?"

The old man placed his hand over his chest.

"We are the civilization you abandoned."

Silence.

Ayan stared.

"You were there."

The old man nodded.

"At the beginning."

"Where were you taken?"

The old man's smile disappeared.

"Beyond the Door."

"What is there?"

The old man looked toward the darkness behind him.

"Your future."

Ayan frowned.

"My future?"

The old man nodded.

"Not yours alone."

He pointed toward the doorway.

"The future of every world."

Ayan's grip tightened.

"What happened to your civilization?"

The old man's eyes filled with sorrow.

"We learned too much."

"About what?"

"The truth."

Ayan waited.

The old man whispered:

"Reality is not expanding."

Ayan's expression changed.

"It is being built."

The old man nodded.

"And something is building it."

Ayan stared.

"Who?"

The old man looked directly at him.

"You."

Ayan's face became pale.

"I already know about the eighth world."

The old man shook his head.

"No."

He stepped closer.

"You don't understand."

He pointed toward the sky.

"The eighth world isn't the next world."

Ayan frowned.

"Then what is it?"

The old man smiled sadly.

"It is the first."

Ayan's heart stopped.

The old man continued.

"The seven worlds came after."

"The First World came after."

"The Origin came after."

"Kai came after."

"Everything you remember..."

He looked at Ayan.

"...came after this."

Ayan's mind went blank.

The old man whispered:

"This is where reality began."

The Door behind him opened completely.

Beyond it was an endless white expanse.

Ayan saw something floating in the center.

A single black sphere.

Inside it...

was a sleeping child.

A child with Ayan's face.

But younger.

Much younger.

The old man whispered:

"That is the first Ayan."

Ayan stared.

"That's impossible."

The child opened its eyes.

Silver.

Not black.

Silver.

And it whispered:

"Who are you?"

Ayan couldn't answer.

Because the voice was his.

But it wasn't his current voice.

It was the voice of the boy who had existed before everything.

The child looked at Ayan.

Then smiled.

"I've been waiting for you."

The Door began closing.

The old man stepped backward.

Ayan reached toward him.

"Wait!"

The old man smiled.

"Come."

The Door slammed shut.

Ayan stood before the mountain.

The silence returned.

Seraphine looked at him.

"What just happened?"

Ayan stared at the closed Door.

"I don't know."

Mira lowered her bow.

"Are you okay?"

Ayan didn't answer.

Because the Bridge had already shown him something.

A new connection.

A connection leading beyond the Door.

And at the end of it...

was the child.

The first Ayan.

The beginning of everything.

Then a voice whispered inside his mind.

Not Kai.

Not the Origin.

Not the silver eye.

His own voice.

**Come find me.**

Ayan closed his eyes.

The eighth world had been born.

The first fear had appeared.

The first death had awakened.

The first war had begun.

And now...

Ayan had discovered something far more terrifying.

He might not be the beginning of his story.

He might be the continuation of someone else's.
