Ayan forgot how to breathe.
For several seconds, everything around him seemed to disappear. The black ocean, the enormous white door, the Witnesses standing in silence, even the companions behind him—all of it faded into the background.
There was only one person.
Elena.
She stood on the other side of the white doorway with silver hair falling gently over her shoulders. Her clothes were simple, almost identical to what Ayan remembered from the earliest memories buried inside his mind. Her silver eyes were calm, and there was a faint smile on her lips.
She looked exactly the same.
Not older.
Not younger.
Exactly the way she had looked on the day she died.
Ayan's fingers began trembling.
His weapon slipped slightly in his hand.
"Elena..."
The woman smiled.
"Yes."
Her voice was the same.
The same softness.
The same warmth.
The same voice that had once convinced him that even a dying world could still be beautiful.
Ayan took one step forward.
Seraphine immediately caught his arm.
"Wait."
Ayan stopped.
He looked at her.
Seraphine's face was pale. Her eyes remained fixed on Elena, but there was something complicated in her expression. Confusion, fear, jealousy, sadness, and something deeper that Ayan couldn't immediately understand.
Elena noticed her.
Her smile changed.
"Sera."
Seraphine froze.
Nobody had called her that except her mother.
Ayan felt her grip tighten around his arm.
Elena took a step toward them.
"You've grown."
Seraphine's lips parted.
"You know me?"
Elena smiled.
"Of course I do."
She looked at Ayan.
"She carries what remained of me."
Ayan's expression hardened.
"You're not her."
The words came out colder than he expected.
Elena stopped.
The smile disappeared from her face.
For several seconds, the two simply stared at one another.
Then Elena nodded.
"Good."
Ayan frowned.
"What?"
"You remembered enough to question me."
Her expression became strangely sad.
"That means you're finally ready."
Ayan tightened his grip around his weapon.
"Ready for what?"
Elena looked behind herself.
The people of the First World stood in silence.
There were thousands of them.
Men.
Women.
Children.
Old people.
They looked completely normal.
There were no injuries.
No black roots.
No golden eyes.
No signs of corruption.
They stood beneath the pale light of the white doorway as though they had been waiting for someone to return home.
Ayan stared at them.
"How?"
Elena didn't answer immediately.
Instead, she looked toward the Witnesses.
The silver-eyed beings had lowered their heads.
Every single one of them was kneeling.
Ayan's expression changed.
"What are they doing?"
Elena smiled faintly.
"Showing respect."
"To you?"
"Not exactly."
Ayan's eyes narrowed.
"Then to whom?"
Elena looked at him.
"To the person standing behind me."
Ayan's body became tense.
The darkness behind Elena moved.
Something was there.
Something enormous.
Ayan couldn't see its shape properly. He could only see two faint silver points deep inside the darkness.
Eyes.
The same color as Elena's.
But far larger.
Ayan immediately activated the Bridge.
Silver lines spread across his vision.
The moment they touched the darkness behind Elena, pain exploded through his head.
He staggered.
Seraphine caught him.
"Ayan!"
He grabbed his forehead.
"What... was that?"
Elena's expression became serious.
"You shouldn't look at it yet."
Ayan slowly raised his head.
"Why?"
"Because it remembers you."
Ayan's face became cold.
"I remember it too."
"No."
Elena shook her head.
"You remember what it allowed you to remember."
Ayan stared at her.
The Witnesses remained silent.
Doctor Rowan slowly approached.
"Who is that?"
Elena looked at him.
"The first existence."
Rowan frowned.
"Before the First World?"
"Before worlds."
The doctor went quiet.
Maren looked uncomfortable.
"Can we stop discovering things that existed before everything?"
Mira glanced at him.
"Apparently not."
Elena looked toward them.
"They are your companions."
Ayan nodded.
"Yes."
She studied each of them.
"Mira."
Mira stiffened.
"You know my name?"
"Yes."
"Maren."
Maren frowned.
"How?"
"Your name was written in the first record."
Maren's expression changed.
"And Doctor Rowan."
Rowan stepped backward.
"That is impossible."
Elena smiled.
"Many things are."
She finally looked toward Seraphine again.
"And you."
Seraphine stared back.
"What?"
"You were never meant to exist."
Seraphine's expression hardened.
"I know."
"No."
Elena shook her head.
"You don't."
She stepped closer.
"You believe you were created from my final memory."
Seraphine's eyes narrowed.
"Wasn't I?"
Elena looked at Ayan.
"Tell her."
Ayan remained silent.
Elena continued.
"She was not created from my memory."
Seraphine's face went pale.
"Then what am I?"
Elena's eyes softened.
"The opposite."
Ayan frowned.
"The opposite of what?"
"She wasn't created from what I remembered."
Elena looked at Seraphine.
"She was created from what I refused to forget."
Silence.
Seraphine's expression trembled.
Ayan slowly understood.
There was a difference.
A memory was something stored.
Something that belonged to the past.
But refusing to forget was an act.
A choice.
A living thing.
Elena had not simply left a memory behind.
She had left a part of herself that continued choosing.
That part had become Seraphine.
"You made her?"
Ayan's voice was quiet.
Elena nodded.
"I did."
"Why?"
"Because I knew you would eventually destroy yourself trying to bring me back."
Ayan's expression tightened.
"So you created her to replace you?"
"No."
Elena stepped closer.
"I created her so you would eventually understand that love does not require resurrection."
Seraphine's eyes filled with tears.
Elena looked at her.
"You were never meant to become me."
Seraphine's voice trembled.
"Then who am I?"
Elena smiled.
"You."
Those two words seemed to strike Seraphine harder than anything else.
She lowered her weapon.
For the first time since entering the First World, the tension in her body relaxed.
Ayan looked at Elena.
"Then why did you let me believe she was your memory?"
"Because the truth would have been more dangerous."
"Why?"
"Because the Witnesses were searching for her."
Ayan turned toward the silver-eyed beings.
"They wanted Seraphine?"
Elena nodded.
"Not because of what she is."
"Then why?"
"Because of what she can become."
Seraphine frowned.
"What can I become?"
Elena didn't answer.
Instead, the darkness behind her moved again.
The entire First World trembled.
The people behind Elena dropped to their knees.
The Witnesses bowed even lower.
Ayan immediately raised his weapon.
"Enough."
Elena looked at him.
"You shouldn't attack."
"I'm not attacking."
He pointed toward the darkness.
"But I'm ready."
Elena smiled faintly.
"You've always been like this."
"Like what?"
"Standing between danger and everyone else."
Ayan's expression softened for a moment.
"I had to learn."
"You always knew."
She looked at him sadly.
"That's why I loved you."
Ayan's chest tightened.
He looked away.
Elena's expression became gentle.
"I know."
Ayan looked back.
"You remember everything?"
"Not everything."
"Then what do you remember?"
"Enough."
She looked toward the First World.
"I remember dying."
Ayan's fingers tightened.
"I remember you refusing to let me go."
"I remember you breaking reality."
"I remember the first Hunger."
"I remember the Seven Doors."
"And I remember the moment you erased yourself."
Ayan lowered his weapon.
"Why didn't you stop me?"
Elena smiled sadly.
"Because I knew you would never listen."
Ayan laughed once.
It wasn't a happy laugh.
"You knew me too well."
"I still do."
Ayan looked at her.
"Then tell me the truth."
Elena waited.
"What is the First World?"
Her expression changed.
"This."
She spread her arms.
"The place where every possibility begins."
Ayan stared.
"The origin."
"Yes."
"The worlds we know..."
"Are branches."
"The Seven Worlds."
"Branches."
"The possibilities."
"Branches."
Ayan looked at the people.
"And this?"
"The root."
His expression became grim.
"If this is the root, then why did it look destroyed?"
"Because you destroyed the original timeline."
Ayan's eyes widened.
"I did?"
"Yes."
"How?"
Elena looked at him.
"You didn't destroy the First World."
"You removed it from existence."
Ayan's breathing stopped.
"What?"
"When you created the Seven Doors, you divided reality."
"The original timeline was sacrificed to create the branches."
Ayan looked toward the white doorway.
"So this place isn't a surviving world."
"No."
"It's the original."
"Yes."
"And everyone here..."
"Are the people from the original timeline."
Ayan looked around.
Children were playing quietly.
Families stood together.
People worked in distant fields.
Smoke rose from chimneys.
It wasn't a dead world.
It was alive.
It had simply been separated from reality.
Ayan whispered.
"I thought they were dead."
Elena shook her head.
"You made sure they survived."
Ayan looked at her.
"Why?"
"Because even when you were destroying the original timeline, you couldn't accept killing everyone."
"You saved them?"
"No."
Elena smiled.
"You did."
Ayan stared.
The memories came back.
The final night.
The world collapsing.
Ayan standing before the Seven Doors.
He had opened them.
But before everything disappeared, he had connected the people of the First World to the space beyond reality.
He had hidden them.
Not consciously.
Instinctively.
A final act of kindness buried beneath his desire to control everything.
Ayan's eyes became wet.
"I saved them."
"Yes."
"But I forgot."
"You had to."
"Why?"
"Because if you remembered, you would try to return."
"And if I returned?"
"You would reopen the original timeline."
Ayan looked toward the darkness.
"And that would be bad."
Elena's expression became serious.
"Very."
Ayan frowned.
"Why?"
She looked toward the enormous presence behind her.
"Because the First World is not empty."
The creature moved.
The darkness parted.
Ayan finally saw it.
It had no fixed shape.
Its body seemed to change every second.
Sometimes it looked like a gigantic human.
Sometimes like an enormous tree.
Sometimes like a mass of wings.
Sometimes like an ocean.
Its shape depended on who was looking at it.
But one thing never changed.
Its eyes.
Two enormous silver eyes.
They opened.
Ayan felt the Bridge react violently.
Every silver line in his vision snapped toward the creature.
He dropped to one knee.
Seraphine immediately grabbed him.
"What is happening?"
Ayan struggled to breathe.
"It's connected to me."
The creature spoke.
Its voice was not loud.
Yet every person in the First World heard it.
**CREATOR.**
Ayan looked up.
The creature continued.
**YOU HAVE RETURNED.**
Ayan's heart pounded.
"What are you?"
The creature tilted its enormous head.
**I AM WHAT YOU LEFT BEHIND.**
Ayan's expression changed.
"What does that mean?"
**WHEN YOU DIVIDED THE WORLD, YOU COULD NOT DIVIDE YOURSELF COMPLETELY.**
Ayan stared.
The creature continued.
**A PART OF YOU REMAINED HERE.**
Seraphine's eyes widened.
"A part of Ayan?"
The creature nodded.
**THE FIRST KEY.**
Ayan froze.
The original Key.
Not the one he carried now.
The first.
The one before the Seven Doors.
The creature was connected to it.
Ayan slowly stood.
"You're saying..."
The creature interrupted.
**I AM THE FIRST KEY.**
Silence.
Ayan's face went blank.
The Bridge inside him suddenly reacted.
A silver mark appeared over his chest.
The same mark appeared on the creature.
Then the two marks connected.
Ayan screamed.
Pain tore through his body.
He fell to his knees.
Seraphine shouted his name.
The creature's voice entered his mind.
**REMEMBER.**
Ayan's vision disappeared.
He saw himself.
Not young.
Not old.
Something before both.
He stood in a completely white space.
Across from him stood the creature.
But it wasn't monstrous.
It was human.
Ayan.
The first Ayan.
The original.
He looked exhausted.
He held a silver sphere in his hands.
And beside him stood Elena.
She was crying.
The first Ayan looked at her.
"I can't save you."
Elena shook her head.
"You don't have to."
"I can create another world."
"No."
"I can create another you."
"No."
"I can change reality."
"Ayan."
She placed her hand against his cheek.
"You've already done enough."
He closed his eyes.
"I don't want to lose you."
"You already lost me."
The first Ayan began crying.
Then Elena whispered:
"Let me become the reason you stop."
The vision changed.
The first Ayan placed his hand on the silver sphere.
The sphere became the Key.
He divided it.
One part became the Bridge.
One became the Observer.
One became the Hunger.
One became the Seven Doors.
And one...
remained with Elena.
Ayan understood.
The First Key wasn't a weapon.
It was his original soul.
The parts he had divided had become the systems controlling reality.
But one part remained.
The part that still remembered Elena.
The part that had stayed behind.
The creature.
Ayan opened his eyes.
The vision vanished.
He was back in the First World.
Seraphine was holding him.
Her face was covered in tears.
"Ayan."
He looked at her.
"I know."
"What?"
"I know what it is."
He looked toward the enormous creature.
"It's me."
Elena closed her eyes.
The Witnesses remained kneeling.
The First World was silent.
Ayan slowly approached the creature.
It lowered its enormous head.
The two versions of himself stared at one another.
"You've been waiting."
**YES.**
"Why?"
**BECAUSE YOU PROMISED TO RETURN.**
Ayan looked down.
"I forgot."
**I KNOW.**
"Why didn't you come for me?"
The creature's eyes softened.
**BECAUSE YOU ASKED ME NOT TO.**
Ayan froze.
The creature continued.
**YOU TOLD ME THAT IF YOU EVER RETURNED, I SHOULD ASK YOU ONE QUESTION.**
Ayan stared.
"What question?"
The creature leaned closer.
Its enormous eyes filled Ayan's entire vision.
**DO YOU STILL WANT TO BRING HER BACK?**
Ayan looked at Elena.
She was standing silently.
Waiting.
For the first time, Ayan didn't feel the desperate need he had carried for so long.
He didn't want to resurrect Elena.
He didn't want to rewrite death.
He didn't want to rebuild the past.
He simply wanted to accept it.
Ayan looked back at the creature.
"No."
The First Key smiled.
**THEN YOU ARE FINALLY FREE.**
The creature began dissolving.
Ayan stepped forward.
"Wait."
The creature looked at him.
"What happens to you?"
**I RETURN TO YOU.**
Silver light filled the First World.
The enormous body collapsed into thousands of particles.
They flew toward Ayan.
Seraphine stepped back.
Ayan remained still.
The light entered his chest.
His body trembled.
The Bridge exploded.
The silver mark on his chest became complete.
For several seconds, nothing happened.
Then Ayan opened his eyes.
The glow was gone.
His breathing was calm.
The pressure had disappeared.
The First World was silent.
Elena smiled.
"You did it."
Ayan looked at her.
"What happens now?"
She walked toward him.
"Now you go."
Ayan frowned.
"Go where?"
"Home."
He looked around.
"What about you?"
Elena's smile became sad.
"This is where I belong."
Ayan's chest tightened.
"You can't come with me?"
"No."
"Why?"
"Because I'm part of this world."
Ayan looked down.
"Then I'll stay."
Elena shook her head.
"No."
"I can—"
"You can't."
She stepped closer.
"You've already spent too much of your existence trying to change things that were never meant to change."
She placed her hand against his chest.
"Let the past remain the past."
Ayan's eyes filled with tears.
"You sound like you did before."
"Because I meant it then too."
She smiled.
Ayan laughed softly through his tears.
"I hate saying goodbye."
"I know."
He looked at Seraphine.
She was watching quietly.
Elena walked toward her.
Seraphine stood still.
When they were face to face, Elena reached out and touched her cheek.
"You are not my replacement."
Seraphine's eyes trembled.
"I know."
"You are not my memory."
"I know."
"You are not my daughter."
Seraphine's expression faltered.
Elena smiled.
"You're better."
Seraphine's tears finally fell.
"Why?"
"Because you are the person Ayan chose."
She leaned closer.
"Don't let him forget that."
Seraphine nodded.
"I won't."
Elena stepped back.
The white doorway began closing.
Ayan looked at her.
"Elena."
She stopped.
He smiled.
"Thank you."
She smiled back.
"Live."
The door began closing.
Ayan didn't move.
He watched her until the final gap disappeared.
Then the white door vanished.
The First World became quiet.
The Witnesses slowly stood.
One of them approached Ayan.
"The original cycle is complete."
Ayan looked at it.
"What happens now?"
The Witness looked toward the empty space where the door had been.
"Now the worlds can exist without you."
Ayan frowned.
"Without me?"
"Yes."
"Then why do I feel like something is wrong?"
The Witness didn't answer.
Seraphine looked toward the sky.
"Ayan."
He turned.
A tiny black crack had appeared above them.
Ayan's expression changed.
The Witnesses looked upward.
For the first time, every Witness showed fear.
A voice came through the crack.
Not the Observer.
Not the Hunger.
Not Ayan.
Something else.
Something completely unfamiliar.
**THE CREATOR HAS RETURNED.**
The crack widened.
**THEN THE CREATION MAY BEGIN.**
Ayan raised his weapon.
The Witnesses stepped backward.
Seraphine stood beside him.
Mira drew her bow.
Maren raised his weapon.
Doctor Rowan activated his barriers.
Ayan stared into the darkness.
He had thought he had finally reached the beginning.
Instead...
he had discovered something beyond it.
The First World had been the root.
But roots could grow.
And whatever was now entering their reality...
had been waiting for the creator to return.
The black crack opened completely.
A single white hand emerged.
Ayan's expression became cold.
"Everyone..."
He lowered his stance.
"...prepare."
The hand reached through.
And somewhere beyond the darkness, something smiled.
