The question Peter had asked the previous evening lingered in Caro's mind long after she reached home.
"There's something about you that still doesn't add up."
He had not pressed her for an explanation. Instead, he had ended the conversation there, leaving her alone with the unsettling realization that his trust was growing at the same pace as his suspicion.
She barely slept.
By the time she arrived at Lawson Holdings the next morning, Peter's office lights were already on. He was rarely late, but today there was an unusual urgency in the building. Department heads hurried through the corridors carrying files. Several legal advisers occupied the executive conference room, while the finance team rushed between offices with updated reports.
Something important was happening.
Before Caro reached her desk, Peter's assistant approached her.
