Peter's eyes remained locked on Caro long after the anonymous message disappeared from the monitor, the silence inside the archive room turning suffocating beneath the weight of everything neither of them could safely say aloud. The auditor shifted uneasily near the terminal while Vivian watched the exchange with frightening calm, her expression unreadable beneath the pale overhead lights. Caro could physically feel her pulse hammering against her ribs as Peter took one slow step toward her, his gaze sharper now than it had been all night.
"Did you know about this?" he asked quietly.
The question hit harder because he did not sound angry anymore.
