Peter's gaze remained fixed on the terminal long after the screen flickered back into stillness, his expression unreadable beneath the cold white glow spilling across the archive corridor. Behind the workstation, Caro barely allowed herself to breathe, every muscle locked painfully rigid as she watched him study the fragmented document she had failed to hide completely. The silence between them stretched dangerously thin. She could hear the faint hum of the servers, the distant rumble of thunder outside Blackridge Tower, and somewhere beneath it all, the violent rhythm of her own heartbeat threatening to betray her position.
Then Peter moved closer.
