Rain slammed against the glass walls of Peter Shey's building, turning the city into blurred streaks of light and shadow. Caro stood near her desk, watching the weather worsen, her phone dead in her hand after the last system check had dragged far longer than expected.
Peter's voice came from behind her, calm but final. "You're not leaving tonight." Caro turned slightly, startled. "It's just rain," she said quickly, forcing a small breath of confidence. "I can still get home." But he had already moved toward the window, looking at the storm as if he could calculate its intention.
"It's not just rain," he replied quietly. "The roads are already flooding in the lower district." He turned back to her, expression unreadable. "You stay here." Caro blinked in disbelief. "Here? In the office?" she asked. "Peter, that's not necessary."
