Chapter 124 - Everyone Present Is Trash, The Fourth Great Ninja War Will Be Started By Me, Bai Ye!
Everyday Bai Ye: [I feel like you Thor is the real highlight here, right?]
The improved T-Virus seems fairly modest by comparison. But if weapons from two thousand years in the future could be mass-produced, that would be something else entirely.
Those people had already gone interstellar — their weapons were on a completely different level.
Pirate Bai Ye: [I'll be honest, even destroyers don't excite me the way they used to. But getting a Thor for my sniper? That I could get behind.]
The sniper rifles in this world all use conventional ammunition, but Thor is different — it fires a laser. By the way, how do you resupply its ammunition?
Biochemical Bai Ye: [Thor still needs more research on my end. I only have twenty rounds, and once they're gone, they're gone. Red Queen will have to work on it further.]
The weapon didn't come with many shots. Once they were spent, that was it — subsequent research and reverse-engineering by Red Queen would be necessary.
As long as Red Queen could solve the ammunition problem, mass production would follow naturally.
Naruto Bai Ye: [So it'll be several years before Resident Evil 4 and those events unfold on your end?]
Biochemical Bai Ye: [More or less, but not necessarily. This world is already in chaos, so things might accelerate. Either way, there's not much happening on my end right now — I need to get some research done first!]
He had just obtained the improved T-Virus and Thor, and William's G Virus still needed to be studied. For now, he needed to settle in.
Naruto Bai Ye: [Must be nice. Unlike me — I barely had a moment to breathe, and now war is about to break out again.]
Having just weathered the conflict between the Uchiha and Konoha, and then the incident in Kirigakure, he had hoped things would calm down. Instead, Iwagakure, Kumogakure, and Sunagakure had decided to unite and exploit Konoha's recent internal turmoil.
This war was clearly unavoidable, and Bai Ye had no intention of backing down.
Before taking office, he had declared that from that day forward, he would make Konoha great again — that he would not capitulate the way Hiruzen Sarutobi had.
Those were the words Bai Ye had spoken upon becoming the Fifth Hokage.
To turn around now and compromise would be a slap to his own face. And Bai Ye was well aware that this situation was one that could yield rewards.
His current strength was genuinely formidable — virtually no one in the Ninja World could defeat him with ease. The one exception was Uchiha Madara.
As for the Sage of Six Paths?
That old schemer was lurking somewhere in the Ninja World, silently watching everything unfold. Bai Ye found it impossible to believe the man had no ulterior motives.
He kept claiming he feared his mother would break free of her seal and maintained constant vigilance over the Ninja World's every movement. Bai Ye even suspected the Sage of Six Paths might have already taken notice of him.
Ultimately, what the Sage of Six Paths wanted to preserve was the peace he believed in — the peace he had always convinced himself he was protecting. A peace he had once entrusted to his sons, Indra and Ashura.
A thought occurred to him.
If the chakra of Indra and Ashura could be reincarnated across generations, there was no reason the Sage of Six Paths and Ōtsutsuki Hamura couldn't do the same — yet both seemed to have chosen not to. The Sage remained in the Ninja World to watch over it, while Hamura had gone to the moon. It all seemed illogical at first glance, yet somehow made perfect sense.
"Hey! You! I just got back, and you're pulling something like this? Are you really planning to start the Fourth Great Ninja War?"
Tsunade looked at Bai Ye, who had been staring blankly from the Hokage's seat, with clear dissatisfaction.
When she had first returned, Bai Ye had said nothing of this. If she recalled correctly, he had told her that coming back meant living well — that as long as she kept her teaching duties on schedule each day, she could relax.
But how long had it even been since she returned? The Fourth Great Ninja War was already showing signs of breaking out.
"Calm down. It hasn't started yet."
Bai Ye snapped back to the present, glanced up at Tsunade, and returned to sorting through the documents on his desk.
Among them was a directive from the Land of Fire, instructing him to negotiate terms with the other villages. Reading the condescending language — including a passage stating that an Uchiha was unsuitable as Hokage and should step down promptly — a cold sneer crossed Bai Ye's face.
This Daimyo really did love to take advantage of people. He genuinely seemed to think he was someone important.
"Hokage-sama, the envoys from Sunagakure, Kirigakure, Kumogakure, and Iwagakure have arrived."
Shikaku opened the door and looked at Bai Ye with the expression of a man who had developed a persistent headache. This role as the Hokage's assistant had given Shikaku a thorough education in what suffering truly felt like.
Especially as the assistant to a Uchiha Hokage.
The village was still shaken, barely recovered from the aftermath of Hiruzen Sarutobi and his allies being removed from power by Bai Ye.
Konoha was still rebuilding. Had Bai Ye not exposed the actions of Hiruzen Sarutobi, Danzo Shimura, and their factions — presenting hard evidence of everything they had done over the years — the Uchiha Clan's rise to power would have lacked any legitimate foundation.
Much like when Hiruzen Sarutobi himself had been appointed by Senju Tobirama, it had taken considerable time before he fully commanded Konoha.
Now, Bai Ye had presented his evidence and demonstrated overwhelming combat strength, convincing the majority outright. Combined with the policies he had introduced in the time since, Konoha had genuine hope of growing into something that benefited everyone.
So people were willing to follow Bai Ye — but before they could celebrate for long, the situation shifted again.
Three villages had issued a joint ultimatum: deliver concessions, or face war.
They were exploiting a moment of vulnerability.
"Oh? Those guys, is it? Show them in."
Bai Ye nodded. Since they had come, it was time to make things clear.
"Understood. What about the Hyuga Clan Head and the others?"
"Call them all in as well."
Shikaku nodded, closed the door, and left. Tsunade, still in the room, looked at Bai Ye with a puzzled frown: "Are you really going to start a war?"
Could Konoha actually handle four villages right now?
In previous wars, Konoha had fought against the other villages — but those other villages had been fighting each other as well. This time, all four were coming for Konoha at once. It was a true four-on-one.
And in Tsunade's estimation, Konoha was no longer at the peak it had once reached.
In their era, they had Konoha's White Fang, the Legendary Sannin, Minato Namikaze, and a generation of exceptional shinobi. The village also had Hiruzen Sarutobi in his prime. That Konoha, Tsunade believed, had been far stronger than the one standing today.
Now, Orochimaru had defected, Jiraiya was still away, she herself struggled with hemophobia, Minato and the White Fang were dead, and countless other shinobi had fallen in the years since. It was fair to say that the Konoha of today was a shadow of what it once was.
But looking at Bai Ye, he showed no inclination toward compromise whatsoever.
As expected — every last Uchiha was a warmonger.
Tsunade felt she had to say something. Recklessness was a young person's vice. There would be no shame in waiting until Konoha had fully recovered before picking a fight.
But when she opened her mouth, the words wouldn't come.
"Konoha was built by the Senju — and by us, the Uchiha. I will not let it fall on my watch."
Bai Ye glanced at Tsunade, said nothing more, closed his eyes, and waited quietly for the others to arrive.
"Ahem. Everyone is here."
Shikaku cleared his throat. The once-empty Hokage's office was now packed.
The envoys from the four villages stood on one side, while Konoha's elite shinobi and the heads of each clan filled the rest of the room.
"Since you've all made the journey, let's hear why you've come."
Bai Ye looked up at the four envoys.
The representatives sent by the Wind, Stone, and Cloud Villages were unfamiliar faces. Kirigakure, however, had sent a senior elder of some standing.
Clearly, Mei Terumī was watching this situation closely.
Kirigakure and Konoha were in the middle of a honeymoon period. The village had been purchasing goods through their trade partnership and recovering at a meaningful pace. Mei had no desire to see Konoha destabilized. She was well aware of the tension with the other three villages, and showing concern was the least she could do.
The elder also carried a specific mandate. If Konoha sought a peaceful resolution, he was to play a stabilizing role — conveying that Kirigakure valued peace and had no appetite for war, and that if conflict did break out, Kirigakure would stand with Konoha as a deterrent.
That said, if it truly came to open war, Kirigakure could not realistically afford to participate. Their current situation meant that war would be nothing short of suicidal.
"Our terms are simple: Konoha pays us a sum of money and shares some secret techniques, and we will guarantee not to go to war with Konoha."
"Iwagakure agrees with the same terms."
"Sunagakure wants money and basic necessities. No secret techniques required."
The three had coordinated before arriving. Kumogakure had even thought ahead — if Konoha chose to comply, they intended to use the opportunity to obtain some of Konoha's Kekkei Genkai, just as they had attempted before. With so many bloodline limits concentrated in one village, it was impossible not to covet them.
"Is that everything?"
Bai Ye's tone was completely flat as he looked at them. Something about those words sent a quiet flicker of contempt through the envoys.
They had expected an extremist — not someone who seemed ready to roll over.
The moment Bai Ye finished speaking, Hyuga Hiashi and the others turned to stare at him in wide-eyed disbelief. Was he going to capitulate?
Then what had been the point of removing Hiruzen Sarutobi and putting Bai Ye in his place?
A flash of anger crossed Hyuga Hiashi's face. If Bai Ye was going to surrender, he would be the first to object.
His younger brother had died at the hands of Kumogakure shinobi. The last time, it had been a compromise that cost that life. He refused to watch another one be sacrificed the same way.
"We haven't thought of anything else for now — but if Hokage-sama is being this cooperative, there's no reason we'd insist on war."
The Kumogakure envoy allowed himself a quiet smile of satisfaction. He hadn't expected this to be so straightforward.
"He's not actually going to just roll over like this, is he? Aren't there supposed to be negotiations?"
The elder from Kirigakure felt a knot of confusion forming. He had come prepared to speak up at the critical moment when both sides were deep in talks. But Bai Ye had apparently decided to comply outright. Was this moving too fast?
He had dealt with Hiruzen Sarutobi before. Even Hiruzen hadn't been this quick to fold.
"Are you finished?"
"For now, yes."
At this point, the envoys from the other two villages had quietly allowed a small measure of contempt for Bai Ye to take root.
"Then go back and tell your Kage this: the war that is coming was not provoked by you. It was provoked by me — Uchiha Bai Ye — and by Konoha. We are the ones starting the Fourth Great Ninja War."
Compromise?
The thought had never crossed Bai Ye's mind.
He had simply wanted to see what demands they would make.
Somewhat disappointingly, they had stated one condition and then gone quiet.
A pity, really.
There was no more entertainment to be had.
"Hokage — you want to go to war with Kumogakure?"
The Kumogakure envoy's expression darkened. Replaying the last few moments in his head, he realized he had been strung along. The other party hadn't been negotiating at all.
Or was this all a bluff?
"That's right. I want to go to war with Kumogakure."
The Kumogakure envoy's face soured completely.
"You'd better think carefully. Iwagakure will be right there alongside them."
"Sunagakure will not stand aside either."
After the other two envoys spoke up, the Kumogakure envoy's expression visibly improved. At least he wasn't standing alone.
"Then come."
"What do you mean by that?"
He doesn't actually want to fight, does he?
Was this a bluff after all?
The envoys exchanged uncertain glances.
This was a coordinated effort by three villages. He wouldn't seriously declare war, would he?
Bai Ye rose from his seat, swept his gaze across the room, and said without inflection, "What I mean is that everyone here is trash. Come whenever you're ready."
The moment he finished speaking, Hyuga Hiashi rose to his feet. Then, one by one, the Konoha shinobi stood as well, turning their eyes toward the envoys.
The Kirigakure elder swallowed. Being stared down by this many shinobi at once carried its own weight of pressure. Then, almost without thinking, the elder stood up too — instinctively, he felt he had no other option in that moment.
Not to declare a position, exactly. More because he had no desire to be counted among the trash. If everyone present was trash, then standing up meant he wasn't — didn't it?
And in Hyuga Hiashi's chest, something that had been clenched for a long time quietly eased. This time, at least, it wasn't going to end in another compromise.
Good.
Let them fight.
Konoha was not a village that cowered.
In that moment, every shinobi in the room had just lived through enormous upheaval — and not one of them was willing to let other villages walk over them because of it.
"His ability to rally people is actually this strong?"
Tsunade's eyes widened slightly. He said he'd start a war, and he meant it? He had only just become Hokage.
"Go back and tell those three that the Fourth Great Ninja War has begun!!!"
Bai Ye's voice was entirely calm — and that calmness was what made the envoys' spines go cold.
A madman.
The entire Uchiha Clan were madmen.
They had thought he would be another Hiruzen Sarutobi.
He was Uchiha Madara's second coming.
