Chapter 99 - Chapter 98 - I knew you weren't human at first glance; I want you to reveal your true form!

"You two must know each other, right?"

Bai Ye looked at the two with a smile, clearly seeing from their deliberately distant expressions that they had initially intended to pretend not to know each other. However, judging by their relationship in the movie, they should be ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend.

But what was strange was that they seemed to have come together, rather than Pat arriving first, followed by Ken.

"Yes, we know each other."

Pat's face flashed with a hint of awkwardness, then she introduced, "We're exes, but we just happened to run into each other here."

If Bai Ye hadn't been there, she would have greeted Ken, but seeing Bai Ye, such a handsome man, she wanted to develop something with him, so she naturally thought it would be better to pretend not to know Ken.

However, she hadn't expected Bai Ye's single sentence to bring them together and then expose their relationship.

So she could only explain their relationship.

"Hmm, I just happened to come here for an interview."

Ken glanced at Bai Ye and explained.

Perhaps he had seen Pat's intentions, but considering they had already broken up, and it was he who had initiated the breakup, she might hate him now. He naturally wouldn't interfere with Pat's romantic prospects.

"Have you heard? This street is very eerie. Nine people die every July."

In the lobby, several women were sitting together, chatting about the rumors concerning this building.

Bai Ye looked over and saw that not one of these people was human.

Yuhi, in a red dress, was among them, but even as they spoke, their gazes kept sweeping between the three, finally settling on Bai Ye.

"Is it that eerie?"

Ken murmured. Although he had heard of the legends here, he hadn't found a job in a long time. If he didn't start working, he probably wouldn't be able to pay next month's rent. So, even though he knew, he could only bite the bullet and try his luck here.

"Alright then, I'll go for my interview first."

Ken said, then waved goodbye to the two.

He then turned a corner and entered the elevator.

"Did you just come here? Have you heard the rumors about this place?"

Pat was curious if Bai Ye had heard this legend.

Speaking of which, she had actually heard about it too.

"I have."

"Then you still came here to open a company? Very few people dare to come here for interviews!"

Pat reminded him. If she hadn't wanted to change careers, she wouldn't have come at all.

Her education wasn't high, and besides her decent looks, she didn't have many special skills. If it weren't for the fact that this building had trouble recruiting, she probably wouldn't have been able to come here given the competition.

"It's fine, I can manage on my own. By the way, take me to the sixteenth floor."

"You're going to the sixteenth floor too? Is your company on the sixteenth floor?"

Pat's eyes lit up when she heard Bai Ye's words. She hadn't expected Bai Ye to be on the same floor as her.

Wouldn't that mean she could often chat with Bai Ye then?

"Hmm, I haven't decided yet. I talked with the boss here, and he told me to choose an office myself, so I'm just looking around beforehand."

If Bai Ye remembered correctly, the sixteenth floor was where the haunting was.

He decided to start from the sixteenth floor. The elevator dinged, and the door opened on the first floor. A white-haired woman was squatting on the ground, her back to them.

Pat felt a chill run down her spine, but seeing Bai Ye walk in directly without a care, she looked at his back, gritted her teeth, and then decided to follow him in.

Following Bai Ye's steps, she stood beside him, trying to keep as far away from the white-haired woman as possible. This gave Pat a slight sense of security.

Just as the elevator was about to close, the door was blocked by a snow-white hand: "Sorry, sorry, please wait a moment, I'm going up too!"

The elevator door opened, and Yuhi, in her red dress, walked into the elevator with a flash of apology on her face, then subtly glanced at the white-haired woman squatting on the ground.

Originally, she had wanted to wait for Bai Ye to choose an elevator, but seeing Pat constantly following Bai Ye, she could only take the initiative. The main reason was that the ghosts here were all choosing substitutes. If Bai Ye was chosen by another ghost, then she would have to choose someone else.

Sometimes, choosing a suitable substitute wasn't that simple.

"Hello, are you two also working here?"

Yuhi enthusiastically greeted Bai Ye and Pat.

Although Pat had already been chosen by Ba Jie, her main target wasn't Pat.

"Hmm, are you too?"

"Of course!"

"I'm here to scout out the place. Why don't you show me around?"

Bai Ye looked at Yuhi with a smile. The first ghost had come knocking, and there was no reason to let her go.

Hearing Bai Ye's words, Yuhi's eyes lit up. Only the white-haired woman squatting on the ground felt a hint of sadness in her heart upon hearing this, thinking that this man was probably going to die.

"He's not interested in me?"

Pat's disappointment was hard to conceal. She had originally thought about whether she could pursue this handsome man, but it seemed he was interested in the woman in the red dress.

"Of course! It's not time for me to start work yet, so I'll show you around!"

Yuhi's eyes lit up. She was just wondering how to get close to Bai Ye, and he had delivered himself to her.

"Then Pat, I'll come find you later."

"Okay, okay."

Pat's face showed a hint of disappointment as she watched Bai Ye leave the elevator. She waved her hand, then followed him out of the elevator, turned the corner, and headed towards her office.

Sixteenth floor.

Many offices were currently empty. Due to the perennial haunting, there were fewer and fewer companies here, leaving many large vacant spaces.

Bai Ye wasn't in a hurry to act yet. After walking around the sixteenth floor, Bai Ye felt that although the offices here were large, they were too cluttered. So he called Liu Qing. After the other party answered, Bai Ye directly asked, "What's up? Do you have any offices that aren't so densely packed? If I'm going to open that thing here, I don't want to be watched like a monkey by others!"

Although he was opening a ghost-catching company, he couldn't open it in places like these, right?

This building was currently empty, but after he dealt with it, the building's location wouldn't be without companies coming in.

"Bai Master, why don't you check out the top floor? The top floor was originally my office. If you want it, I can give it to you. It overlooks the surrounding scenery and is also a large flat!"

Liu Qing quickly said. The top floor was originally his office, but because he didn't dare to go there at all, it had been left vacant.

"Hmm, I understand."

The top floor?

A hint of understanding flashed in Bai Ye's eyes. The top floor was indeed a super-large flat, and above it should be the rooftop.

Looking at Bai Ye's back, Yuhi's eyes flickered. If he went to the top floor, could she...

But then she thought it was too soon. The other party might not trust her at all.

"Bai Ye, are you the boss? So young to be a boss, and to rent the entire top floor, you're really young and promising!"

Yuhi's eyes flashed with a little girl's admiration, then she looked at Bai Ye with a flattering expression, practically writing "I like you" on her face.

What a pity...

No matter how young and promising he was, he would soon have nothing.

"Yes, I'm my own boss."

Bai Ye pressed the button for the top floor and answered casually, while the white-haired woman still squatted in the corner of the elevator.

"Then are you a rich second generation?"

"Self-made."

"Self-made? That's amazing? So what exactly do you do?"

Yuhi's innocent little girl demeanor would likely have greatly satisfied anyone else.

After all, having a beautiful woman looking at you with such an adoring gaze, anyone would feel secretly pleased.

"You'll know soon."

Bai Ye's lips curved into a smile, and he didn't explain too much. As the elevator sound rang, Yuhi's thoughts were interrupted.

What did he mean, she would know soon?

Without time to think further, she quickly followed. But when she saw the white-haired woman also follow them out of the elevator, she turned her head and glared at her, her eyes full of menace.

If it weren't for the fact that she had tried to save her back then, she would have long since used this woman as a substitute.

Of course, also because the other party had Yin-Yang Eyes, these ghosts couldn't deceive her or use illusions on her.

"This large flat is nice. The entire floor is almost four hundred square meters. I could even live here later."

Bai Ye looked around, then at the elevator, thinking that he would ask Liu Qing to get him a private elevator that would take him and his guests directly to the top floor.

"By the way, didn't you want to know what I do?"

As he spoke, he turned to look at Yuhi. Seeing her nod, Bai Ye raised his hand, and streaks of lightning flashed in his palm: "I'm actually a Daoist priest. The owner of this building and I have an agreement: I'll eliminate all the ghosts here, and then I can pick any office I want. You're the first."

Bai Ye said calmly, and then the entire room was instantly filled with electricity.

Lightning!

It was the very thing evil creatures feared most, especially ghosts like Yuhi who lured people to their deaths.

Throughout the entire twenty-fifth floor, with that intense electric current, Yuhi felt that if she touched the lightning, she would be instantly wiped out.

"You... what did you say? How could I be a ghost?"

Yuhi's face was pale, but she didn't dare to move too much. She could only argue to try and deceive Bai Ye.

"I knew you weren't human at first glance. Monster, reveal your true form!"

Saying that, Bai Ye's fierce lightning struck Yuhi directly, instantly annihilating her body and spirit.

However, after waiting for a long time, Bai Ye still hadn't received a lottery chance.

"It's not asking me to completely solve this problem, is it?"

Bai Ye retracted his hand, looking at his lottery chances, which were still zero. It seemed that killing one ghost didn't count as his reward.

But thinking about it, if all nine ghosts here counted, or only the three protagonists, that would be three chances, and these lottery chances seemed a bit too easy.

"You've been watching for a long time, haven't you? You have Yin-Yang Eyes, do you want to be my assistant?"

Bai Ye looked towards the corner. Ah Yi, the white-haired woman, had long been scared stiff by Bai Ye.

She had originally thought Bai Ye was doomed, but in the next second, the female ghost was instantly eliminated by Bai Ye.

"Can I?"

Ah Yi pointed to herself, a hint of anticipation in her heart.

She had been troubled by her Yin-Yang Eyes for many years, mainly because she could see ghosts but couldn't do anything to them.

In this situation, she had always lived in fear.

"Of course. Your eyes can see ghosts, and I need an assistant who can see ghosts. And later, as you saw, this large flat needs some people to help manage it. Since you have Yin-Yang Eyes, you're naturally the best choice."

Bai Ye could only see ghosts through special means; normally, he couldn't. And Yin-Yang Eyes indeed had some use for him. Since he needed an assistant anyway, he might as well let her do it.

"I'm willing!"

Ah Yi immediately agreed. After witnessing Bai Ye's methods, she naturally knew that following Bai Ye was much better than being alone.

"There are still eight ghosts in this place. Take me to deal with them. I want to end the cycle here."

Besides Ba Jie, among the other seven ghosts, three were seen in the lobby, talking about how eerie this place was. And there were four ghosts Bai Ye hadn't seen and didn't know which floor they were on.

Ah Yi, who had been here for many years, naturally knew very well. Seeing Bai Ye was going to deal with the ghosts, she was naturally happy.

The cycle here should have been ended a long time ago.

"Boss, may I ask your name?"

"Bai Ye."

"Then Boss, since there are Daoist priests in this world, why has the cycle here never been broken? The legends here have been around for many years, and there has never been a truly capable Daoist priest to solve it."

Ah Yi asked curiously. Since there were Daoist priests like Bai Ye, then matters concerning this building should have most likely been known by other Daoists.

But why did it take so many years for a Daoist priest to come?

"Yes, actually, I can't figure it out either, or perhaps it just can't be completely solved..."

To put it bluntly, the problem of ghosts in offices was due to a lack of means to deal with them.

But with so many worlds merged, it was impossible for Daoist priests not to know about the situation here.

Yet, that was precisely the case.

"Boss, I actually thought about reporting it to the media. At first, the media agreed, but then for some reason, they changed their minds. Regarding the rumors here, besides word-of-mouth, it seems they've never been seen in news or newspapers.

It seems someone is deliberately concealing this information, plus there are already many rumors about gods and ghosts in Hong Kong. I guess if you hadn't come today, Boss, you probably wouldn't have known about the situation here, right?"

Ah Yi had actually thought of solutions.

However, later the other party directly changed their mind. It seemed that supernatural incidents were simply not allowed to be reported in Hong Kong.

"Yes, the information is restricted. Logically, newspapers would definitely report on such curious matters, but they are deliberately hiding something..."

Newspapers wouldn't pass up such a sales-boosting report. And just like his master, there were indeed no ghosts within a ten-mile radius, but if it was too far, he wouldn't know at all. He just read newspapers and watched the news every day, but there were no such reports in the news or newspapers.

That seemed a bit profound.

Bai Ye always felt as if some invisible big hand was controlling all of this, preventing more people from knowing.

Shaking his head, Bai Ye decided not to think too much for now. The most important thing right now was to eliminate all the ghosts here.

Currently, no one had died yet. If even one person died, and it counted as him not changing the plot, then he would suffer a huge loss.
