Chapter 9 - Watch 9

She began to tell me of all of the times she wanted to tell me how she felt for me, how she was excited to see me each and every day. I held myself with as much control as could, I would not begin the journey into the darkness full of tears.

I told her, "Mirela, I have loved you as well, though our time will not come to pass." I paused, taking a breath filled with grief. "I will always remember you, I hope you will do the same."

She began to speak but I put my finger to her mouth to not let her speak. She was filled with anger that I was leaving. I could see it on her face. She blurted out, "I am coming with you. You need someone that can keep watch over you while you sleep in the Hollow."

I hung my head, "Mirela, I am being sent to my death, please for my sake do not follow."

"I can not watch you just be abandoned by the whole of the Sentinels. This is unfair, I will not allow this to happen." she asserted, almost shouting.

"Calm down." I said with the softest voice I could. "There is nothing that can be done now." As she was about to speak again I kissed her, the kind with which you give to one you will never see again. I then picked up my things.

"Goodbye, I will never forget you." I told her with the surest voice I could give.

I know I will see you again, though how I do not know.

She began her descent back toward the Irmin seed's core. I, on the other hand, made for the outpost where I usually stood. Their Tokkiel was waiting for me as insurance that did truly leave and was not lurking among the shadows of the chambers. I saw him ahead.

"Tokarn, before you leave I have a gift for your hardships." he said low and sincere. When I held my hand out he then reached his hand over his blade.

He wouldn't kill me here would he?

But his hand continued toward his back and handed me a sapphire blade only about half the length of my standard issue watchers long sword. It was unlike any other blade I had seen, one could see straight through it yet it looked sharp enough to go straight through me.

I bowed my head, "Thank you Tokkiel, it is greatly appreciated."

"Don't thank me, Kousto commanded me to bring it to you before you departed. I know not of its capabilities. That is for you to discover."

"Blessings be to Koutso, for even in my exile he brings me protection." I said with reverence, since Tokkiel was here.

"Tokarn, I pray for your survival, may you cleanse yourself of the curse that has been put on you."

I bowed my head again and then straddled the wall of the outpost. Landing on some roots, I began the journey into the depths of darkness before me.
