Chapter 4 - Never Trust a Snake

Warning: final scene may be triggering and contains mild gore.

A falcon perched on the power lines, causing other birds to flee.

"Wake up, Zane. I know where you come from," - said the falcon, looking to the side.

Zane suddenly woke up, hitting his head against the top bunk.

"Ugh," - he groaned in pain and gently massaged the spot where he had hit.

Zane looked out the window at the falcon and smiled. He left the room and saw Sensei Wu standing, looking at the map.

"You're up early today," - he said, smiling.

"A watchful eye never sleeps," - explained Sensei Wu.

"While Lloyd, the Purple Ninja, and the Serpentines are still at large, Ninjago is in danger," - Nya said.

"Okay. But where are the others?" - Zane asked, referring to his friends.

"Training on the deck," - Wu said.

Zane headed to the deck and heard the sound of the falcon, causing him to look up.

"You were in my dream, little friend," - Zane said, watching it. - "Last time, you brought me good luck. Why did you come back?" -.

Zane followed the bird as it flew away, trying his best to stay close to it. He raised his eyebrows, one at a time, while looking at the clouds beneath the flying ship.

"Lord Garmadon!" - Zane turned around and saw him. -"But you were banished!" -.

"Only to return for the Spinjitzu Weapons. Soon, I will have the power to recreate Ninjago in my image," - he said, grabbing two katanas and attacking Zane.

Zane jumped forward, already grabbing his shurikens of ice.

"Give me the shurikens of ice!" - Lord Garmadon ordered, pointing one of the katanas.

"You'll have to take them from me! Ninja, Go!" - Zane began to use his Spinjitzu.

But before he could do anything, Lord Garmadon grabbed him by the throat and threw him away.

"So be it," - he said, cutting a rope that caused a box to fall on top of Zane.

But then the Green Ninja appeared, easily lifting the box and throwing it away.

"The Green Ninja...! The legend is true!" - Zane said, shocked and smiling with admiration.

The Green Ninja jumped in front of Zane, confronting Lord Garmadon. He demonstrated great fighting skills. Lord Garmadon threw his swords at him, but the Green Ninja easily dodged and then used Spinjitzu. A shining green tornado.

Lord Garmadon and the Green Ninja continued to fight fiercely. At one point, Lord Garmadon was about to attack him from behind, but the Green Ninja dodged in a way that seemed to have predicted it. He closed his eyes and quickly joined his fists. This only lasted a second before he opened his eyes. One of his fists glowed with a translucent blue flame.

"Aura..." - Zane murmured, surprised.

Then, the Green Ninja punched Lord Garmadon in the face, leaving him quite disoriented. Then, he jumped forward with a somersault and grabbed the Nunchaku of Spinjitzu. He charged them with electricity and struck Lord Garmadon in the face, causing him to fall far from the flying ship.

"Who are you?" - Zane asked seriously.

The Green Ninja raised one arm for the falcon to land and, in the other hand, emitted fire. His eyes shone, one with regular fire and the other with a blue flame, aura.

"Kai, is that you?" - Zane asked, seeing more falcons appear, which confused him even more. - "What does this mean? Who are you, Green Ninja?!" -.

Then, Zane truly woke up, banging his forehead against the top bunk. He groaned in pain while gently massaging the spot.

"Still sleeping? You're going to be late for training," - Jay said, staring at him, surprised.

"Then why didn't anyone wake me up?" - Zane asked, a little irritated from the pain.

"We thought you wouldn't want to. You seemed to be having a nice dream," - Kai explained, shrugging.

"And how do I know this isn't a dream too?" - Zane asked, a little slow.

Cole then hit him on the head with a heavy pillow.

"Does this hurt like a dream?" - Cole asked with a mischievous smile.

"No. Thanks for the help," - Zane said, frowning in irritation.

The other guys started laughing at him, having fun.

o0o0o

"Hahahaha. We're a little slow today. What did you dream about?" - Kai asked, a bit curious.

"I saw the falcon again," - Zane explained.

"Wow, Zane. Every time you see that bird, something important happens," - Jay said, now more interested in Zane's dream. - "First, it took you to the secret treehouse." -.

"Then it took you to the treasure." -.

"Okay, stretching. First, the Crane Charge," - Sensei Wu said, striking the pose.

The ninjas copied him, but they didn't seem that interested in it.

"This time, it showed me the Green Ninja," - and there it was, the bomb, the work bomb, Zane.

"The Green Ninja?!" - The others were in shock.

"And that's the surprised monkey pose, wrong pose. Focus," - Sensei Wu said sternly.

"You shouldn't drop a bomb like that! Spill it!" - Jay asked.

"And what else did you see?" - Kai asked.

"He was fighting Lord Garmadon," - Zane answered.

"That's what the prophecy says: the Green Ninja would defeat the Dark Lord. But did you get a chance to see who among us he was?" - Kai asked, staring at him, hopeful.

"What did you see?!" - Jay asked, furrowing his brows.

"I can't say. He had a bit of each one of us," - Zane replied.

"Now, the Crab Claw," - Sensei Wu ordered.

"Now tell us everything, no holding back. There must be a clue that gives away who will be the Green Ninja!" - Sensei Wu pulled his hair as soon as they stopped paying attention.

"What subject could be more important than my lessons?" - Sensei Wu asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh, nothing," - Kai said, a little nervous.

"It wasn't anything, Sensei!" - Jay shook his head, just as nervous as Kai.

"Yeah. We were paying attention," - Cole said, calmer than the others.

"We were focused," - Zane added.

"How can you all seem so distracted? Then the four of you can share the punishment," - Sensei Wu concluded.

This left the ninjas outraged.

"What?!" -.

"More punishment?!" -.

"But it's Zane's fault!" -.

"I was just answering their questions!" - Zane retorted.

"No breaks and no video games!! You'll be training the rest of the day. And tomorrow, the same!" - Sensei Wu said as he started to walk away.

"Training?! For how long?!" - Kai asked, discouraged.

"Until you can answer this riddle: What's the best way to defeat an enemy?" - Sensei Wu said.

"Easy. With a sword!" - Kai said, doing some parkour.

"With fists!" - Jay said, punching the air.

"Spinjitzu!" - Cole spun quickly but didn't use Spinjitzu.

"Tornado of Creation?" - Zane struck the Crane pose.

"Hurry up. You've got a lot of training ahead of you. Make sure to sharpen your minds as well as your Spinjitzu," - Sensei Wu sighed and left.

"Ah! What's the best way to defeat an enemy? It can be any way!" - Cole grabbed a staff.

"Come on, guys. We're smart. We can figure this out," - Jay said, activating something to train.

Kai hit the sandbag hard and saw Sensei Wu enter, giving them a chance to gather and discuss Zane's dream.

"Alright, but let me speak. The Green Ninja is incredible!" -.

On a snowy mountain, the Fangpyre and the Hypnobrai prepared for a fight.

Lloyd and Moon are with the General Fangpyre in a snake vehicle.

They meet and are ready to fight.

"The Hypnobrai. Now, I'll teach them a lesson for betraying Lord Garmadon! Oh, do your part, Fangpyre, that's why I took you out of the hole," - Lloyd said, looking at the general with confidence.

"Attack!" - said the general.

Then something surprised Lloyd and the Purple Ninja.

Skales plunged his staff into the snow and stared at General Fangpyre.

"Skalesss! My old friend! I didn't think I'd be facing you. So, we'vess come to the surface, huh?" - said the two-headed general happily.

"Young Master, be prepared, we might have to flee," - the Purple Ninja whispered to Lloyd, who seemed to ignore her.

"Looksss! It's the Fangpyre! Of all the people you could have brought, I'm glad it's a friend!" - Skales said with a smile.

"Wait, I thought you were enemies, not friends!" - Lloyd said, visibly confused.

"We were at war. But seeing that Skales is leading, well, we didn't see why we couldn't be allies," - the general explained.

"If you had freed the Constrictai, the Venomari, or God forbid, the Anacondrai, then we'd have a feud," - Skales explained as the other general nodded.

"A feud? A feud?! But, I'm Lloyd Garmadon, the bearer of evil!" - he exclaimed, confused.

"What do we do with them?" - Skales asked the Fangpyre General.

"I could turn them into one of us!" - The Fangpyre General suggested.

"Uhmm, no! The little guy is practically useless, but the girl isn't too bad," - the Fangpyre General agreed, remembering what she had said.

"You won't do anything!" - said the Purple Ninja, grabbing her staff.

Skales turned to face her.

"Do you think you can handle so many of us?" - the blue snake asked.

"You may be strong and threatening. But you're just a girl, and we are many," - he added.

Moon frowned.

"Young Master, please step back," - she whispered to him.

Lloyd obeyed. Moon left her Golden Weapon on her back and joined her hands.

"Let me show you what I can do," - Moon said, serious.

Lloyd obeyed. Moon left her Golden Weapon on her back and joined her hands, gathering enough aura to cause an Aura Explosion.

The nearby snakes were knocked out, and the two generals were stunned.

"Let's go!" - she grabbed Lloyd's hand and started running.

In a few seconds, she switched her Golden Weapon into vehicle mode. She sat in the pilot's seat, and Lloyd sat in the back, watching through the glass.

Skales and General Fangpyre watched them, swallowing nervously as they observed their warriors still unconscious.

"And she handled it." - Skales said sarcastically.

"I'm tired! I'm going to show him!" - Lloyd said angrily, crossing his arms while they flew away in the jet.

"With his fist on fire, one eye glowed like regular fire, and the other with blue flame," - Zane finished explaining.

Soon, everyone returned to discussing who the Green Ninja was, and then Cole made an important mention.

"Wait. Didn't you say the Green Ninja didn't use Aura?" - Cole asked, a bit seriously.

"Ahh, yes?" - Zane raised an eyebrow.

"None of us knows how to use Aura! Only... the Purple Ninja," - Cole added. Then everyone realized the possibility.

"She could be the Green Ninja? Oh, tell me another one." - Jay said, rolling his eyes. - "She doesn't stand a chance... does she?" - He asked, now anxious.

"Well, the fact is the Green Ninja did use Aura... There's a possibility," - Zane swallowed nervously.

"Definitely not her! After all, she's Lord Garmadon's pupil!" - Kai didn't want to believe it.

Then Sensei arrived, asking if they had solved the riddle, but no one had, so Sensei gave them a slight scolding and reminded them of what happened with their vehicles when they lost focus.

"Ah! How can I concentrate when I don't know who the Green Ninja is?!" - Jay asked, speaking to no one in particular.

"I don't want to train all day. Let's solve this riddle," - Cole added.

o0o0o

"If you had freed the Constrictai, the Venomari, or God forbid, the Anacondrai, then we'd have a feud," - Lloyd said, running to the Serpent Tomb. - "The Anacondrai!" -.

(Seems strangely easy to open from the outside, and if the Anacondrai are this powerful, it makes sense to lock them somewhere extremely hard to survive.) - thought the Ninja, observing the tomb.

"The most feared and powerful serpents of all. If they fear the Anacondrai, then it's the Anacondrai they'll have! Muhahah!" - Lloyd laughed before opening it.

Lloyd and the Purple Ninja entered the tomb, which was a bit dark and full of bones, showing that everyone must have died.

(There's still someone here.) - thought the Purple Ninja, on full alert.

Then, a previously invisible snake appeared behind them. Moon, as a reflex, threw a punch at it. But the long-necked snake dodged by mere inches.

Lloyd backed away.

"My humble apologies, young ones," - the snake let out a soft burp. - "Ah, due to my unfortunate appearance, I... ah, provoke an unpleasant reaction in people," - it said, lifting its neck and handing the lantern back to Lloyd. - "Ah, I think you dropped this... here it is." -.

"Thank you," - Lloyd said, turning on the light. - "What happened to the others?" - he asked, looking at the Anacondrai.

"Ah, poor unfortunate souls. All these years locked up with nothing to eat... they must have slowly died of hunger until only scales and bones remained," - it explained, throwing an arm around its own shoulders.

(Or they could have been eaten... by one of their own.) - thought the Purple Ninja.

"And who would you be, my... uh, I mean, friend?" - the snake asked nervously.

"Lloyd Garmadon, son of Lord Garmadon. Future dark ruler," - he explained proudly. - "And this is my Guardian and friend, the Purple Ninja Moon!" -.

(Friend? I'm just a loyal servant...) - she thought.

"Hahaha! How deliciously evil! If I had feet, they would be trembling in my boots!" - it said, in a rather friendly manner.

"And who are you?" - Lloyd asked.

"Humbly, I am Pythor P. Chumsworth. And as you have freed me, I am eternally at your service," - Pythor explained with a slight smile.

"Seriously? You're not going to deceive me, are you?" - Lloyd asked, suspicious, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh! Why would I deceive you? I practically have no friends," - Pythor explained, looking around the tomb.

"Owo! I have few friends too," - Lloyd gave a slight smile.

"Don't tell me that!" - Pythor responded.

"Hey, how about you become my right-hand man? I was betrayed by the Hypnobrai and Fangpyre, and I'm trying to get back at some ninjas too," - Lloyd turned to him.

Pythor quickly glanced at the tomb map before Lloyd turned away.

"I love revenge! You know, Floyd..." -.

"It's Lloyd." -.

"Whatever. I'm feeling this is the beginning of a beautiful and great friendship," - Pythor said, putting his arm around Lloyd's shoulders.

o0o0o

Lloyd and Pythor started causing chaos in the city.

Knocking people's things over, littering, etc.

Walking on the grass where there was a "No Entry" sign.

Stealing ice cream.

Destroying toys.

Stealing candy.

All kinds of evil, having fun and laughing.

(Lloyd isn't really evil; I can feel the remaining goodness in his aura.) - Moon thought, while standing guard.

Soon, the three returned to the Anacondrai tomb.

Moon sat meditating while Pythor and Lloyd started talking and making plans.

(Pythor isn't trustworthy.) - she thought while watching their auras. (I must be careful with him, I can't let him hurt my Young Master.)

o0o0o

They invaded the Dark Boarding School for Bad Boys.

"Come on, Moon! Have fun with us!" - Lloyd said, handing her a skateboard.

"Have fun...?" - she looked at the skateboard, confused.

Lloyd and Pythor were skating. Moon tried to copy them, but at one point, she lost her balance and fell hard, which made Lloyd laugh.

"I'm sorry, Young Master. I failed to have fun," - Moon apologized, bowing.

"Moon, you don't need to do that, and stop calling me Young Master. Just call me Lloyd," - the boy asked.

Moon tilted her head, confused.

"Relax," - Pythor said, agreeing with Lloyd.

o0o0o

Lloyd and Moon were waiting on the school rooftop when the ninjas arrived.

Pythor delayed them with well-planned traps, which actually worked. However, it didn't stop the Blue Ninja.

"Lloyd, behind me," - Moon asked, grabbing her staff.

It was a dead-end. They had to face the ninjas, go with them and be prisoners, or fall off the roof.

"Do something!" - Lloyd asked Pythor.

Pythor just grabbed Lloyd's map, which was leading to the tombs.

"What are you doing? I thought you were my friend!" - Lloyd was upset.

"All you want is to make the Serpents your slaves. Well, excuse me, kid, I have other plans," - he said, becoming invisible along with the map.

Lloyd started to panic.

"Lloyd," - Moon tried to calm him, but it wasn't working.

"Are you going to betray me too, Moon?! You definitely will!" - Lloyd was so hurt by the betrayals that he thought anyone could betray him.

"No, I would never do that," - Moon would never betray the son of her master.

"I don't believe you!" - Lloyd shouted.

"You know what must be done." -.

"How much blood do I need to spill?" - Moon asked Lloyd, leaving him confused.

"Huh? What?" -.

She pulled up her mask, leaving the Blue Ninja in shock. Even though her back was to him, he could still see her white hair.

"How much blood do I need to spill?" - she asked, moving her staff near her neck.

This froze the Blue Ninja's blood. What the hell was Garmadon teaching her? Why was she trying to prove her loyalty with blood?

"N-No! Don't do this, Moon! Stop, you've already proved it!" - Lloyd begged desperately.

She had cut a little on her neck; it was bleeding quite a bit.

Jay snapped out of his shock and started moving closer, but Moon quickly put her ninja mask on and turned to face him.

"Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon, come here right now!" - Sensei Wu ordered.

"I get-" - The Purple Ninja interrupted.

"You won't-" - She felt the world go dizzy.

This was the consequence of not eating or sleeping properly, as well as losing a lot of blood.

Soon she collapsed to the ground, to everyone's shock and concern, especially Lloyd's.

"Moon!" - Lloyd cried.
