The silence after Meera disappeared felt heavier than death itself.
Ayaan stood alone in the empty room, his hands trembling slightly as he stared at the place where she had vanished. His heart was still trying to accept the truth—everything was over.
Or at least, that's what he wanted to believe.
Days passed, and life slowly began to return to normal. Ayaan tried to move on. He avoided going out at night and forced himself to forget everything—the rain, the whispers, the darkness, and most of all, Meera.
But some memories refuse to fade.
One night, Ayaan suddenly woke up, gasping for air. His heart was pounding loudly in his chest.
He looked at the clock.
3:00 AM.
The same time.
Every night.
He sat up slowly, wiping the sweat from his face. Something felt wrong again. A strange uneasiness filled the room.
Then he heard it.
A soft sound.
Someone breathing.
Ayaan froze. His entire body went still.
Slowly, with great effort, he turned around.
There was nothing.
The room was empty.
But the feeling remained.
As if someone was watching him.
Suddenly, a sharp cracking sound echoed through the room.
Ayaan looked toward the mirror.
It had cracked.
His eyes widened in fear.
And then he saw it.
Not his reflection.
But hers.
Meera.
Standing behind him.
Her face pale. Her eyes darker than ever before.
"You let me go…" she whispered.
Ayaan's breath stopped. "I had to…" he replied weakly.
A slow, unnatural smile spread across her face.
"You think that ended it?"
Before he could react, the lights went out.
Darkness swallowed the entire room.
Her voice echoed again from somewhere close… too close.
"This is not love anymore…"
"It's a curse."
Ayaan tried to move, but his body refused to respond.
Something cold touched his shoulder from behind.
He felt her presence right next to him.
"You don't get to leave me…" she whispered near his ear.
Ayaan tried to scream, but no sound came out.
The darkness wrapped around him like chains, pulling him deeper into something unknown.
And then—everything stopped.
The next morning, the neighbors found the door of Ayaan's house open.
Inside, everything looked normal. Nothing seemed disturbed.
Except for one thing.
Ayaan was gone.
No blood. No signs of struggle.
As if he had simply vanished.
Only one thing remained behind.
A message written on the mirror.
"I'm not alone anymore."
Below it were two handprints.
One was Ayaan's.
And the other—
Was not human.
