"I don't have time for this nonsense, Adrian," Nina said, her voice dropping into a dangerous, warning vibration that seemed to reverberate off the narrow walls. "If Lydia put you up to this, if this is some ridiculous game she's running to get me off the set, you can go right back to her and tell her she failed. She failed completely."
"Lydia?" Adrian sneered, the name tasting sour on his tongue like spoiled wine. "You think she sent me? Nina, I haven't spoken to her in weeks. She's completely obsessed with her rating sheets and wardrobe fits. She doesn't care about anything but her own face on those posters."
He took a breath, and something desperate flickered across his features… a vulnerability that might have moved her once, in another life. "I didn't come here because of her. I came here for you."
