A good day begins with waking up. Ed stretched comfortably and climbed out of his wooden bed. He was used to it now; the board was hard, but his back was flexible.
Didn't we have a notorious criminal investigator who was a kept man? He's still a kept man now.
He had just gotten up when Adelaide's voice rang out from outside the door, which had become a habit.
"Master, breakfast is ready and waiting for you."
"Okay, Adelaide, I'll be right there," Ed called out to the door. This scene played out almost every day. If Adelaide didn't come to call him one day, he would feel uneasy.
Upon entering the castle hall, warmth immediately enveloped him. Adelaide was still busy in front of the fireplace, while Carly was drinking porridge at the long table.
"Good morning, Adelaide," Ed greeted the busy Adelaide.
"Good morning, Master, have a wonderful day." Adelaide turned around and smiled, a smile as beautiful as a flower and as radiant as the morning sun.
Carly used to be the last to arrive at the hall because she always overslept, but she arrived earlier today because her father came yesterday.
Ed sat down opposite Carly, picked up his spoon and started drinking the porridge. He felt a little uncomfortable after sitting down because he had stretched a bit too much when he got up, but it didn't affect his porridge drinking.
He tries not to talk while eating, but looking at Carly, he can't help but want to comfort her.
Carly was focused on drinking her porridge, but she still secretly glanced at Ed. She didn't dare to speak casually now.
She secretly glanced at Ed to see if Lord Ed would say anything disgusting. If Lord Ed showed any sign of speaking, she would immediately interrupt him.
Just as Ed was about to speak to comfort Carly about her sorrow, Carly's voice rang out. "Lord Ed, may I ask you a question?"
"Sure, but you've already asked."
Carly glanced at Ed in surprise, but he continued to happily sip his porridge. "Lord Ed, may I ask you two questions?"
"Sure, but you've already asked two questions."
Carly paused for a moment, but she quickly came up with a solution; she's a clever child after all.
"Lord Ed, may I ask you four questions?"
Now it was Ed's turn to be taken aback. Huh? This isn't going according to plan!
"Sure, but you've already asked four questions."
Carly was secretly pleased! Ed's words made her fall into deep thought again.
"Lord Eddard, when did I ask you four questions?"
Ed put down his spoon and gave a wicked smile. "Now."
Carly looked at Ed speechlessly, then counted the questions she had asked earlier; it seemed she had indeed asked four. "No, the previous question doesn't count."
Adelaide watched the two bickering, smiling as she slowly sipped her porridge. The castle didn't feel dull with the two of them around.
Carly continued to stare at the enigmatic Ed, her heart filled with resentment. All unpleasantness vanished from her mind.
"Lord Ed, may I ask you a hundred questions?"
Ed composed himself and looked at Carly seriously. "No, I'm busy right now."
Carly was quite angry. "What are you so busy about? You're drinking that bowl of porridge so leisurely, one spoonful at a time."
Carly had nowhere to vent her pent-up resentment, so she took it out on the porridge in her bowl.
Ed stole a glance at Carly, who was taking her anger out on the porridge.
"Carly, I have some free time now. You can ask me one question, but I will refuse to answer any more."
"Oh, Lord Ed, do you always lean back and straighten your body when you drink porridge? Is there something wrong with your back?"
