On the following day, the police found several people abandoned in the streets. At first they thought they were dealing with homeless people and approached to expel them.
However, after a closer inspection they realized these were ordinary civilians who had lost consciousness in the middle of the street.
After finding a dozen similar cases, the situation seemed extremely unusual and sparked public interest.
They soon called the medical team and began investigating seriously.
In the milder cases, the doctors reported severe memory loss on the part of the patient. The person having forgotten their family, friends, workplace, and even their own identity completely.
They were like a blank slate.
In the more severe cases, the simplest brain death.
But not an ordinary brain death.
The body continued to react to light, to sounds, and even to touch. The heart beat steadily and everything else was functioning as expected.
However, the consciousness had been erased.
