Time is like an invisible guide, leading the growth of everything in the world.
More than a year has passed since Ryu arrived in this world.
He has completely integrated into this new environment.
Ryu successfully entered the second year with an explosive score, ranking first in the entire grade.
It's worth mentioning that Akashi Seijuro's score was the same as his; the two of them, surprisingly, tied for first place.
This became a much-talked-about story among the students of Teiko Middle School.
On this day, at Teiko Middle School, in front of Class 2D:
"Huh? You want me to mentor a newbie?" Ryu looked at Momoi Satsuki with reluctance.
Momoi Satsuki nodded with a smile. "Yes, that newbie is very strong. He only joined the basketball team two weeks ago, so I hope you can be his mentor."
"Why me?" Ryu roughly knew who it was.
If nothing unexpected happened, this person should be Kise Ryota.
He was someone who hated trouble and felt he really couldn't handle the job of a mentor. "Hey, Satsuki! Can we find someone else? I'm really not suited to be a mentor."
"Huh? No way! Ryu is so amazing, I think you'd be perfect!"
Hearing Momoi Satsuki's words, Ryu's lips twitched, somewhat speechless. "That's not what I meant! Anyway, you should find someone else to mentor the newbies! Kuroko is a good choice." As she spoke, Ryu's gaze fell on the jersey in Momoi Satsuki's hand. "This should be Kuroko's jersey! You can mention it to him when you give him the jersey."
"Kuroko!" Images of Kuroko mentoring Kise flashed through Momoi Satsuki's mind.
For some reason, a hint of anticipation suddenly appeared in her eyes. "Alright! I'll go ask him. I'll go find him now. Bye-bye, Ryu!"
Momoi Satsuki waved and ran off.
Watching her disappearing figure, Ryu finally breathed a sigh of relief.
But speaking of which... is the Generation of Miracles finally complete?
The strength of Aomine Daiki has been getting increasingly terrifying lately.
Akashi, Murasakibara, and Midorima have also grown considerably.
They are much stronger than they were in their first year.
As for Ryu himself... he can currently suppress Aomine, but he's already finding it somewhat difficult.
If this continues, things aren't looking good!
Aomine's speed is universally acknowledged as the fastest.
Ryu felt a sense of pressure; if Aomine's speed increases even a little more, at that point, Ryu will probably find it very difficult to suppress him.
Not being able to suppress him doesn't mean he can't score, but that's probably the situation right now.
Ryu shook his head, deciding to stop thinking about it.
Ring ring ring…
After afternoon classes ended, Ryu carried Karupin to the basketball club.
Just as he entered the locker room, he saw several members of the first team.
Akashi, Aomine, and Midorima were there too.
"Oh, Ryu, you're here."
Ryu smiled at Aomine. "Yeah. If I remember correctly, today should be the promotion test."
Hearing Ryu's words, Aomine was taken aback. "Is it today?"
Akashi interjected, "Yeah, it should be between the second and third teams. A few people will probably be promoted to the first team!"
"I see!" Aomine Daiki no longer had the same passion he used to have—the kind that made him want to fight everyone.
He stood up and prepared to head to the gym.
"Hey! Aomine, are you going to practice?" Just then, Murasakibara Atsushi walked into the locker room, holding an ice pop.
Aomine Daiki stopped and nodded. "Yeah. Next time we have to get 20 points from Inoue."
"Ah, good luck!" Murasakibara Atsushi had absolutely no interest in this kind of thing.
Sizzle... sizzle... sizzle...
Midorima was spraying something onto his locker from a can.
"Hey! Midorima, what are you doing?" Murasakibara Atsushi asked curiously.
Midorima continued spraying, his actions unwavering. "I have noticed a strange smell lately."
"Ah, you mean that!" Murasakibara Atsushi took a bite of his popsicle and said, "It's because Aomine and the others have been piling up unwashed T-shirts in the closet."
"What did you say?" Midorima's face instantly darkened.
Seeing the situation turning sour, Aomine vanished in a flash.
"Aomine…" Midorima's angry roar pierced the air.
Ryu was already immune to these antics.
He changed his clothes and headed towards the basketball court.
He had only gone halfway there when he saw someone ahead. He walked over and spoke.
"Nijimura-senpai."
Nijimura Shuzo looked at Ryu with a serious expression. "Ryu, I want to talk to you about something. Could I take up a little of your time?"
Ryu sensed that Nijimura Shuzo was acting strangely today. However, he had no reason to refuse. He nodded. "Okay, sure."
Nijimura Shuzo led Ryu to a corner.
He paused for a few seconds, then got straight to the point. "Ryu, would you be interested in being the captain of the Teiko basketball team?"
"Huh?" Ryu was a little confused.
Didn't he mention this last year? Why is he bringing it up again now? Although it was strange, Ryu shook his head. "Nijimura-senpai, I'm not suited to be a leader. Let Akashi do it!"
"Sigh! I knew you'd refuse." Nijimura Shuzo smiled helplessly, then added, "And what about the vice-captain?"
Ryu's lips twitched. What's wrong with this guy? Is he starting to play games now? "Nijimura-senpai, you're acting strange today. I don't even want to be the captain, let alone the vice-captain."
Sigh... Nijimura Shuzo sighed. "Since you don't want to, then forget it." After a moment of silence, Nijimura Shuzo asked again, "By the way, you recommended Akashi to be the captain of the Teiko basketball team, so do you have anyone in mind for vice-captain?"
Ryu didn't even hesitate.
In the original story, Midorima was the vice-captain of the Teiko basketball team.
He answered directly.
"Midorima Shintaro. He's a very meticulous person. No one on the team follows the rules better than him. He's the perfect person to assist Akashi."
"Midorima, huh?" Nijimura Shuzo pondered Ryu's words.
After a long pause, he nodded. "Indeed, Midorima is a good choice." He smiled slightly at Ryu. "That's all for now! I'm sorry to have taken up your time."
"You're too kind, Nijimura-senpai. I'll head to training now."
With that, Ryu turned and left.
On the way, Ryu felt that Nijimura Shuzo was acting strangely today.
Recalling the events surrounding Nijimura Shuzo in the original story, he quickly found the answer.
In the original story, Nijimura Shuzo resigned as captain because his father was seriously ill, so he could devote himself to caring for him.
'So that's how it is.' Ryu sighed inwardly.
He couldn't really say anything about it.
