"YOU SAID YOU'D PROTECT US!! YOU SAID YOU WOULD KEEP US SAFE!!! YOU…YOU SAID YOU WOULD SHIELD US!!!"
Ulrich did not answer.
Hermione struck at his chest with both hands.
"YOU LET THEM TAKE HER!!!"
Her voice broke.
"I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU!! I WANT AIREM BACK!! LET ME GO!!"
Ulrich held her tighter when she tried to pull away.
Esther was crying so hard she could barely breathe.
"P…please," she pleaded.
Her voice was small beneath Hermione's screaming.
"Please, Lord Ulrich… I want my eldest sister back. Let me go…. I cannot be without her…"
Then her plea became a scream.
"I CANNOT!!"
Ulrich held both of them.
His body was exhausted. His wounds burned. The broken sword remained in one hand, its edge lowered against the grass.
