The reintegration of the Northern Wilds brought a fragile peace to the Void Empire, but peace in a world ruled by gods was never meant to last.
Three weeks had passed since Lord Thalorak's surrender. The scars on the land were slowly healing — new forests planted with spirit magic, shattered mountains reinforced with void crystal, and roads rebuilt stronger than before. Voidheart Citadel continued its rapid expansion, now a true capital worthy of an empire that had defied heaven itself.
I stood in my True Adult Void Dragon form on the central peak, watching the sunrise paint the floating islands and crystalline spires in warm gold and purple. Triple infinity power flowed through me like a quiet ocean, but today it carried an undercurrent of unease.
Elara stood on my snout, her silver hair glowing in the morning light. She placed a gentle hand on one of my scales, sending a soothing wave of Spirit-Void energy through our bond.
"You feel it too, don't you?" she asked softly.
I rumbled in agreement. "Something's wrong in the North. Thalorak may have surrendered, but not everyone followed him."
Nyxara appeared beside us in a swirl of purple chaos. "My scouts confirm it. A faction of hardliners broke away after the surrender. They're hiding deeper in the wilds… and they're not alone. We found traces of divine energy. The Goddess's loyalists are still feeding them power."
Lirael landed on an adjacent peak, her violet eyes sharp. "Pride does not die easily. Some will choose death over change."
Sato joined via a silver communication orb, his face serious. "Reports from border patrols show increased activity. Small raids on supply lines. They're testing us."
I exhaled a thin stream of black smoke. "Then we stop testing and start acting. I want a covert team to investigate. No full army — we don't want to spark another open rebellion. Nyxara, you lead it. Take Elara and a small elite group."
Elara nodded without hesitation. "I'll go."
I gently nuzzled her with my snout. "Be careful. If the Goddess is directly supporting them, this could be a trap."
She smiled up at me. "I have the strongest dragon in the world watching over me. I'll be fine."
The investigation team departed the next morning.
I stayed behind to manage the empire, but through our bond I could feel Elara's every step — the cold northern wind, the tension in the air, the faint divine residue that made her skin crawl.
Meanwhile, daily governance continued.
I held court in the Grand Hall, listening to petitions from across the empire. A human merchant requested better trade protections. A young dragon asked for permission to study spirit magic at the Harmony Tower. A group of reincarnators proposed introducing basic modern sanitation systems using their knowledge from Earth.
I approved most requests, using my infinite power subtly to accelerate projects where needed. The empire was growing faster than anyone had anticipated.
But my mind remained partly with Elara.
On the third day of their mission, her voice came through the bond — urgent but steady.
"We found their camp. It's bigger than we thought. At least eighty dragons and several hundred loyalist mages. They're planning something… Kurogane, they have a divine beacon. They're trying to open a direct channel to the Goddess."
My blood ran cold.
"Pull back," I ordered immediately. "Do not engage. I'm coming."
I launched into the sky within minutes, flying north at full speed. Lirael and Nyxara joined me mid-flight. Sato remained behind to hold the capital.
We reached the hidden valley by nightfall.
The rebel camp was well concealed — nestled between steep cliffs with powerful illusion runes. But nothing could hide from triple infinity perception.
Elara's team had pulled back safely. She met me on a ridge overlooking the camp, her silver armor faintly glowing.
"They're performing a ritual," she whispered. "They're offering something to the Goddess in exchange for power."
I narrowed my eyes. "We end this tonight. Quietly."
The assault was surgical.
Nyxara sowed chaos within the camp — causing weapons to turn into harmless flowers and guards to see illusions of their worst fears. Lirael suppressed their strongest dragons with overwhelming presence. Elara and I moved like shadows, our Spirit-Void Harmony allowing perfect coordination.
We reached the center of the ritual just as the divine beacon began to activate.
A familiar golden light flared — the Goddess's power trying to manifest.
I stepped forward and unleashed Eternal Void Dominion at full power.
The beacon shattered instantly. The golden light screamed and died.
The remaining rebels froze as I revealed myself in full True Adult form, towering over the valley.
"This ends now," I declared. "Lay down your arms and return to the empire under mercy. Continue this path, and there will be no second chance."
Most surrendered.
A small group of die-hard loyalists tried to fight.
They did not last long.
By dawn, the last pocket of rebellion in the North had been extinguished.
As we flew back toward Voidheart Citadel, Elara rode on my back, her arms wrapped tightly around one of my neck spines.
"You showed restraint again," she said softly. "Even after they tried to bring her back."
"I had to," I replied. "If we become monsters to defeat monsters, then the Goddess has already won."
Lirael flew beside us, pride clear in her voice. "You are learning, my son. True strength is knowing when to hold back the storm."
Nyxara laughed from the other side. "Boring, but effective. I still got to cause some beautiful chaos though."
Back at the capital, I made another public address — this time announcing the successful resolution of the last rebel elements while offering full amnesty to any who had been misled.
The empire responded with renewed loyalty.
But I knew the truth.
The Goddess had not given up.
She was simply changing tactics — striking from the shadows, using our own people against us.
The real test of the Void Empire was only beginning.
