Just as Dante's words fell, the fighters rushed at each other. This time Yuri didn't use his attribute. Janus went for a hook – right side. Yuri took a step forward, evading it. He clenched his fist and punched Janus in the stomach. His opponent gasped as he stepped back. Using this chance, he swiped Janus off his feet. Janus's eyes widened. He gritted his teeth and caught himself. He used his hands to stand and twisted his body, catching Yuri's head with his leg.
Then, Janus rolled forward with all his strength, flipping Yuri over. Yuri covered himself as he feel, pain shooting throughout his body. The two chaos incarnates stood again, bruised and batter.
"What a spectacle! A round of hand-to-hand combat!" Mack shouted.
The crowd jumped in excitement, waiting for the next round of battle. Janus burst forward. He swung at Yuri but in the next instant, an agonizing wave of sound blast through the arena. The audience covered their ears. Naus froze for a moment. In that instant, Yuri grabbed his opponent's head and pulled it into his knee. Janus stumbled back, his vision blurry and ears ringing. Yuri clenched his hand and rushed at Janus.
Just then, code began falling in Janus's eyes like rain. He snapped back to reality. He balanced himself and diverted Yuri's strike. Then, he dislocated his adversary's jaw. Yuri's eyes widened, being unable to process what happened to him. He flew back and crashed against the floor. The crowd gasped, then in the next moment, they cheered.
"A nice jaw dislocation from Janus over there. Looks like his middle-level adaptation thing is complete." Dante leaned forward.
Yuri grunted, touching his jaw. Pain shot through his body and he pulled his hand back. He stood up with rough balance. He paused for a moment. Then, he lifted his head, seeing his opponent wasn't doing anything. He placed his palm on his dislocated jaw and relocated with a simple burst. He spit blood and wiped his face.
"I guess it's time to get serious…" Yuri commented. "Both of us aren't going to last any longer."
Janus frowned. "Agreed."
Time seemed to slow down. Yuri crouched down and so did Janus. Then, in the next instant, they pushed off with incredible force. The audience leaned forward as wind blew from the arena. The two passed each other and landed on the wall. They jumped off again like a spring, they bounced from wall to wall.
"My – My…" Mack whispered in awe. "Looks like Janus is moving just as fast as Yuri. They're equal in speed!"
Just as he said that, both fighters stopped in front of each other.
"I think you're missing the point, Mack." Dante crossed his legs and leaned back. "If they hit each other at sonic speeds, both of their bodies would be destroyed."
"Yeah…I guess, you're right." Mack sighed.
The audience didn't pay close attention to the commentators as their attention was drawn to the stare down that was happing in the arena. Yuri and Janus locked with each other before…
Janus threw a punch – easily breaking the sound barrier. Yuri dodged and lifted his leg. He twisted his body and tried to his Janus in the chest. Janus crossed his arms and blocked it. He flew back, crashing against the wall. He stood up, blood pouring from his head.
"The man doesn't care! He high on adrenaline!" Dante raised his arms.
"Why are you making it sound like a drug?" Mack looked at Dante.
Yuri burst off again. He slowed down half way and struck Janus. Janus tilted his head to the side and dodged. Sharp pain shot throughout his body as he kicked away by his adversary. He fell and looked at his hand – broken. He clicked his tongue and rose again, moving on instinct. Janus shot towards him before he could attack. Yuri dodged but Janus dragged him with him. But Yuri did not faulter. He gripped Janus's shirt and let off a high-pitch sound with his attribute.
Janus flinched as Yuri twisted their bodies and sped up. They crashed into the wall. Dust rose up and the audience held their breaths. The referee rushed out, preparing to declare the victor. Dante and Mack leaned forward as a shadowy figure rose from the dust.
Purple hair and white clothes – It was Yuri.
The referee blew the whistle. The audience burst into cheers and screams.
"AND WE HAVE A WINNER!!!" Dante screamed.
"YURI AKITOOO!!!" Mack shared the same energy.
Janus lied on the ground – unconscious. Medics rushed out as Yuri also fell. The doctors took toe fighters for treatment, placing them on hovering beds. As they moved them out of the arena, the bed began scanning them, analyzing their injuries. After they left, the holographic screen displayed Yuri as the winner.
"Well, there you have it folks. The first match of the unarmed league was absolute cinema!" Dante clapped.
"It was. I know your blood was boiling with excitement." Mack leaned back.
"Let's not wasted anymore time." Dante swiped his screen. "To switch thing up for this year, the next match will be the Armed league, my dear fellows."
The massive holographic screen displayed 'Armed league' in a flashy manner as the list of participants was displayed.
"Let's call the first two fighters!" Mack announced.
"Can Cain Rodrick from Ashland and Taylor Hawk from the Paragonia make their way up to the stage, please~" Dante said.
"Why are you saying it such a sexy voice?" Mack pulled his away.
"I don't know. Felt like it." Dante also pulled his mic away.
As the two commentators talked, a man with grey hair, green eyes and a piercing on his left ear stepped out. A grey jacket embedded with a black skull stuck to his body. Below, he wore grey trousers with dark accents that perfectly matched his shoes.
From the other side, a girl with long black hair and blue eyes stepped out. A black shirt stuck to her body as a black jacket with pink accents hung over it – unzipped. On her legs were baggy black cargo pants that made her look bigger and pink sneakers that complemented her jacket.
"Sheesh! Look at them." Mack commented. "Their drip is off the charts!"
"I mean just look at their weapons." Dante pointed out. "Cains got a meteor hammer with a loooong chain that looks like it can crush my skull even though it can't while Taylor's going with the classic EOC katana style."
The combatants stood at a distance as the referee stood between them.
"Quick rundown for ya, dumb – dumbs." Dante stated. "The rules of this league are one, first person to get ten points. Two, no lethal weapons. The rest you can search up."
"Now, you've got your answer to why, Cains meteor hammer looks like a bowling ball instead of a spiked ball. Taylor's sword is also dull, if you're asking." Mack shrugged.
The referee blew the whistle, swung his hand and ran away once again. Cain started to rotate his meteor hammer, building up momentum. Taylor also unsheathed her blade and took a stance.
"Let me introduce to Cain's attribute." Mack said. "He's got the ability to change the mass of any object he wishes."
Dante leaned back. "Let me explain Taylor's attribute then. She can change the direction of any object that is in motion. If you paid attention in class, you'd know this is one of the applications of force."
As the introduction finished, Cain swung his meteor hammer at his adversary. Taylor dodged and rushed forward. She closed in on her rival and swung her blade. Before, she could land her strike, the katana became extremely heavy and dropped to the ground. Taylor's eyes widened. Cain pulled his meteor hammer and stepped back, increasing its mass. As the ball came close, Taylor reached out her hand. She touched the ball for a split second and changed its direction.
The ball made a sharp turn and fell off. She rushed forward and grabbed her katana. She struck her enemy in his stomach.
'Two!'
Taylor exclaimed in her mind. Cain gasped as Taylor ran off. His grip didn't waver as he pulled his weapon back, preparing for another round.
"Two points for Taylor!" Dante stated. "But looks like she knows his weakness…"
"That's his attribute's fatal weakness. He can only use it on one thing at a time." Mack stated.
