Thursday afternoon.
Kingdom of Solenne.
Week four of the Thursday sessions.
Fourteen junctions cleaned last week.
Fifteen the week before.
Sixteen this week — the compound acceleration was ahead of projection and the travel optimization between junctions was improving each session.
Han-Ho arrived through the Hongdae Gate at twelve forty three.
Two minutes early.
The preparation team was at six meters.
The sprite emerged from the bag immediately.
Went to the clearing junction.
Made a sound.
River translated.
"The clearing junction is at thirty one percent improvement," said River. "Up from twenty two percent last week."
Han-Ho made a note.
Clearing junction: thirty one percent. Nine percent improvement in seven days. Compound acceleration confirmed ahead of projection. Revised completion timeline: eleven weeks for full kingdom. Filed.
He filed it.
Aria stepped through behind him.
Looked at the forest.
"Han-Ho," said Aria.
"Yes."
"The forest."
Han-Ho looked at the forest.
At the structured ancient trees.
He pressed his hand against the nearest one.
Read it.
Made a note.
"Twenty seven percent improvement from session one baseline," said Han-Ho.
"I know the number," said Aria. "But—" She touched a tree. "Can you feel it. Not the measurement. The quality."
Han-Ho pressed his hand against the tree.
Read it.
Not the measurement.
The quality.
The ley line energy moving through the tree.
The contamination in it.
Still present.
Seventy three percent of the original contamination still present.
But the twenty seven percent that was gone—
What was in its place was—
"Cleaner," said Han-Ho.
"Yes," said Aria.
"The original energy quality."
"Yes," said Aria. "I grew up feeling contaminated ley lines. I thought it was normal. I thought that was what magic felt like." She looked at her hand on the tree. "Twenty seven percent cleaned and I can already tell the difference. The magic feels—" She paused. "The sword says the word is correct."
"Correct," said Han-Ho.
"Yes," said Aria. "The magic feels correct."
Han-Ho looked at the tree.
"Eleven more weeks," said Han-Ho.
"Yes," said Aria.
"And the full kingdom."
"Yes," said Aria.
"And then the full world."
"Yes," said Aria.
She looked at the sword.
The sword was glowing.
The steady confirmed glow.
Not the anticipating glow.
The this is right glow.
Han-Ho made a note.
Sword: confirmed quality assessment. Correct energy. Filed.
He opened the ley line map.
Marked the sixteen junctions.
Took the shard from the bag.
Warm.
The sprite moved to three meters.
The active ambient technique activated.
Junction one.
Ninety seconds.
Done.
Junction two.
Eighty eight seconds.
Done.
Junction three.
Eighty two seconds.
Done.
Getting faster.
Not because the technique was changing.
Because the ambient quality was improving.
The cleaned junctions from previous weeks were raising the baseline.
The shard was enhancing the field.
The compound effect was real and measurable and accelerating.
Junction four through eight.
Each one faster than the previous.
Junction eight: sixty one seconds.
Han-Ho made a note on the move.
Junction cleaning time per session week four: average seventy four seconds. Week three average: ninety seconds. Week two: twenty six minutes. Week one: twenty three minutes. Trend: continuing acceleration. Projecting average sixty seconds by week six. Revising completion timeline.
He filed it.
Moved to junction nine.
At junction eleven something happened.
Not dramatic.
Not threatening.
Just different.
Han-Ho was cleaning junction eleven.
The active ambient technique.
The shard warm in his hand.
The diffuse glow extended in all directions.
He felt the junction contamination reducing.
Sixty seconds at current rate.
Forty seconds in.
And then.
A pulse.
Not from the Dragon Vein network.
Not from Cheongwon.
From the ley line network itself.
A response pulse.
The ley line network responding to the cleaning.
Like the Dragon Vein network had responded the day Han-Ho cleared the deep central fracture sections.
A pulse of clean energy moving through the cleared junctions.
Not outward from a single junction.
Through all eleven cleaned junctions simultaneously.
Han-Ho stopped.
Lowered his hand.
Made a note.
Ley line network: responding to accumulated cleaning. Eleven junctions reached a threshold at which the network itself pulses clean energy through cleared sections. Same mechanism as Dragon Vein network response on activation day. The ley line network is beginning to self-activate. Filed urgent.
He filed it.
Looked at the forest.
The trees.
The pulse had passed through everything.
The ley line energy in the trees was moving differently.
More actively.
The contamination in the trees — still present, seventy three percent minus whatever the pulse had cleared — was shifting.
Moving.
Not accumulating.
The pulse had disturbed the contamination.
The clean energy flowing from the eleven junctions was carrying the disturbed contamination outward.
Away from the cleaned zones.
Concentrating it in the uncleaned zones.
Han-Ho read this.
Made more notes.
"The pulse is concentrating the contamination," said Han-Ho.
"Is that bad," said Min-Seo.
"No," said Han-Ho. "It is efficient. The contamination is moving to the uncleaned zones where I will address it. The cleaned zones are being maintained by the pulse. Same as the Dragon Vein network self-maintenance after activation." He made more notes. "The cleaning is compounding faster than projected because the network is helping."
"The ley line network is helping you clean itself," said Min-Seo.
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"Because you cleaned enough of it that it can."
"Yes," said Han-Ho. "The threshold was eleven junctions."
"You cleaned eleven junctions over four weeks and the network reached a tipping point," said Min-Seo.
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"The contamination in the uncleaned zones is going to be more concentrated now," said Min-Seo.
"Yes," said Han-Ho. "The sessions will become harder before they become easier. The contamination concentrating means junction cleaning in uncleaned zones will take longer initially."
"How much longer."
"Unknown until I test it," said Han-Ho. "Filing a projection request."
He filed it.
Looked at junction eleven.
Still had twenty seconds of cleaning remaining.
He activated the technique again.
Addressed the remaining contamination.
Twenty seconds.
Done.
Junction twelve.
The concentrated contamination.
More resistant.
He read it.
Made notes.
Applied the technique.
Ninety seconds.
Same as week two.
Made a note.
Junction twelve: ninety seconds. Concentrated contamination effect confirmed. Uncleaned zones harder initially. Cleaned zones maintaining themselves. Trade-off: harder junctions ahead, but cleaned zones require no maintenance time. Net efficiency still positive. Filed.
He filed it.
Moved to junction thirteen.
Ninety four seconds.
Fourteen.
Ninety one seconds.
The concentrated zones were not dramatically harder.
Just harder.
He addressed them.
One by one.
The way he addressed everything.
At three fifty eight PM he finished junction sixteen.
One minute remaining before the departure window.
He cleaned the threshold residue on the way out.
The sprite last to cross, at his heel.
Back through at four oh one.
One minute over the corrected schedule.
He noted it.
Made a departure time adjustment for next week.
Four fifty eight PM departure. One minute earlier.
Filed it.
At the GS25 Min-Seo ate both kimbap within four minutes.
Cho Hyun had Rule Nine ready.
Han-Ho ate his kimbap.
"The ley line pulse," said Min-Seo.
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"The network self-activated."
"Yes."
"Like the Dragon Vein network."
"Yes."
"Eleven junctions," said Min-Seo. "That was the threshold."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"You cleaned eleven junctions over four weeks."
"Yes."
"And the network reached the point where it could start helping."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"How many junctions before the Dragon Vein network self-activated," said Min-Seo.
Han-Ho made a note.
"The western sections clearing," said Han-Ho. "Approximately forty sections in five weeks. Then the deep central sections. The network activated on completion of the deep central clearance."
"The ley line network activated faster," said Min-Seo.
"Different network architecture," said Han-Ho. "The ley line network is more distributed. The activation threshold is lower because the clean energy can spread laterally through the ambient distribution. The Dragon Vein network is channeled. The activation required channel flow. The ley line network just needed enough ambient quality improvement."
"Eleven junctions worth," said Min-Seo.
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
Min-Seo looked at the Thursday afternoon city.
At Seoul in the specific late afternoon light.
"Han-Ho," said Min-Seo.
"Yes."
"The very strange world."
"Yes."
"No concept of cleaning."
"Yes."
"Trying to make clean energy for longer than the blockage existed."
"Yes," said Han-Ho.
"The clean energy reaching them through the widened junction."
"Yes."
"What do you think they are doing with it," said Min-Seo.
Han-Ho looked at the GS25.
At the clean floor.
At Cho Hyun behind the counter doing his shift.
"The same thing anyone does when the environment gets cleaner," said Han-Ho.
"What is that," said Min-Seo.
"Getting cleaner," said Han-Ho.
Min-Seo looked at the kimbap wrapper.
At the bin.
At the clean street.
"Of course," said Min-Seo.
"Of course," said the bag.
"Of course," said Cho Hyun from inside.
Everyone looked at Cho Hyun.
"I can hear the bag now," said Cho Hyun. "The Dragon Vein ambient quality improvement. I can hear it through the network."
Everyone stared at him.
Cho Hyun looked at Han-Ho.
"Should I file a report," said Cho Hyun.
Han-Ho made a note.
"Yes," said Han-Ho. "Ms. Yoon will want to know."
"Of course she will," said Cho Hyun.
He went to file a report.
He had never filed a Registry report before.
He filed it correctly on the first attempt.
Ms. Yoon received it.
Added Cho Hyun as an auxiliary Dragon Vein sensitivity reporter.
Filed it under: GS25 morning shift.
The bag said: "Of course."
