Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: The Seventh Badge Obtained

Charizard and Magmar faced each other beneath the looming presence of the volcano's molten lava. The scorching heat radiating from the two Fire type Pokémon raised the temperature of the entire battlefield. The magma churning within the lava lake seemed to boil in excitement for the impending clash.

"At last, this moment has come." Blaine's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Magmar, show our guest the passion of our flames! Use Flamethrower!"

"Charizard, Flamethrower as well!" Ash responded without hesitation.

Two massive pillars of fire collided violently in midair, erupting in a thunderous roar.

Where the flames met, blazing energy scattered outward, twisting the surrounding air into shimmering waves.

In this pure contest of power, the two Pokémon were evenly matched.

"Impressive strength!" Blaine praised. "But battles aren't decided by firepower alone! Magmar, use Smokescreen!"

Magmar released a dense cloud of black smoke from its mouth, instantly enveloping the entire battlefield.

Charizard was caught off guard by the sudden smoke, coughing as its vision became severely obscured.

"Charizard, take to the sky! Use your wings to blow the smoke away!" Ash quickly ordered.

Charizard beat its wings and soared upward, powerful gusts scattering the thick smoke.

But the moment the smoke cleared, Magmar was already prepared.

"Now's the time! Magmar, use Thunder Punch!"

Magmar's right fist crackled with golden electricity as it charged toward Charizard in the air at astonishing speed. An Electric type attack would be extremely effective against the Flying type Charizard.

"Dodge it!" Ash shouted urgently.

Charizard twisted sharply in midair, barely evading the deadly blow. However, the lingering electricity brushed against its wing, causing it to roar in pain.

"Charizard, are you alright?" Ash called anxiously from the sidelines.

Charizard glanced back at him, its eyes burning with unyielding determination. It beat its wings firmly, signaling that it could still fight.

"Good!" Ash felt the resolve of his partner. "Then we'll take the initiative! Charizard, use Dragon Rage!"

Charizard unleashed a brilliant blue shockwave of energy from its mouth, blasting straight toward Magmar.

But Blaine remained calm.

"Magmar, Protect!"

A green barrier formed in front of Magmar, perfectly blocking the Dragon Rage attack.

"Now it's our turn! Magmar, use Fire Blast!"

The flames Magmar expelled formed a massive blazing character in the air, descending toward Charizard with devastating force. The attack covered an enormous area, nearly sealing off every possible escape route.

"If that's the case, we'll break through head on!" Ash's eyes sharpened. "Charizard, use Air Slash!"

Charizard beat its wings, releasing several razor sharp wind blades. The blades collided with the Fire Blast midair, triggering a massive explosion.

The shockwave from the blast shook the entire platform, and waves of lava surged several meters high within the magma lake.

"T-This is terrifying…" Team Rocket huddled together in the corner, trembling with fear.

When the smoke and dust finally cleared, both Pokémon were panting heavily. The previous clash had clearly drained a great deal of their strength.

"It seems ordinary moves won't decide this battle." Blaine's expression turned serious. "Magmar, let's use that move!"

Magmar understood immediately. It began gathering immense energy into both arms. The surrounding temperature rose sharply, and even the rocks near the edge of the platform began to melt.

"This is…" Brock stared in shock. "It's concentrating all of its fire energy! The power of that attack far surpasses an ordinary Fire Blast!"

"Charizard, we can't lose either!" Ash could feel the terrifying power building within the opponent's move. "Push your flames to the absolute limit!"

Charizard threw its head back and roared. The flame at the tip of its tail suddenly surged, shifting from orange red to a blazing blue white. The intense heat radiating from its body began to distort the air itself.

"Finish it… Explosive Flame Collapse!" Blaine shouted.

The flames Magmar released were no longer a simple stream of fire. They transformed into a blazing torrent of destructive energy, scorching everything in their path. Even the air seemed to ignite.

"Charizard, use Blast Burn!" Ash gave the command with all his strength.

Charizard took a deep breath. The flames it unleashed transformed into a devastating inferno storm, blue white fire roaring outward with astonishing destructive power.

The two ultimate Fire type attacks collided violently in midair. The resulting explosion caused the entire interior of the volcano to shake violently. A scorching shockwave spread in all directions, forcing the spectators to grab onto nearby supports to avoid being blown away. Waves of molten lava surged several meters high in the magma lake, turning the entire space into what seemed like a fiery hell.

When the smoke from the explosion slowly cleared, everyone saw that both Pokémon were kneeling on one knee, clearly pushed to their limits. Their bodies were covered in burn marks, and their breathing had become heavy and ragged.

"T-They actually tied?" James said in disbelief.

"No…" Meowth noticed something sharp eyed. "Look at Magmar's legs, meow!"

Magmar's legs were trembling slightly, showing that the previous collision had inflicted greater damage on it.

Charizard, on the other hand, was also exhausted, but the determination in its eyes had not faded in the slightest. The flame on its tail continued to burn stubbornly.

"Now!" Ash seized the fleeting opportunity. "Charizard, use Seismic Toss!"

Charizard gathered the last of its strength and charged toward Magmar. Before Magmar could react, Charizard grabbed it firmly with its powerful arms and shot straight into the sky.

"What?!" Blaine's expression changed instantly.

Charizard spun rapidly in the air while holding Magmar, tracing a perfect arc. Then, using the acceleration from the fall, it hurled Magmar straight toward the ground.

Boom!

With a thunderous crash, a deep crater formed in the platform. Magmar lay at the bottom of the pit, struggling briefly before finally collapsing.

"Magmar is unable to battle! Charizard wins!" the referee announced loudly. "Therefore, the winner is the challenger, Ash!"

"That's amazing! Ash won!" Misty cheered excitedly, while Brock nodded with approval.

Charizard landed heavily on the ground, exhausted but still holding its head high. It proudly released a burst of flames into the sky, declaring its victory.

Blaine slowly let out a long breath and recalled Magmar, a satisfied smile appearing on his face.

"A splendid battle, Ash. The bond between you and Charizard, along with the wisdom and decisiveness you displayed in battle, truly deserve this badge."

He took out a red badge shaped like a flame from his pocket and solemnly handed it to Ash.

"This is the Volcano Badge, proof that you have successfully challenged the Cinnabar Gym."

Ash accepted the badge, feeling its warm surface in his hand. His heart was filled with accomplishment.

"Thank you, Mr. Blaine!"

[Ding! The host has defeated Cinnabar Gym Leader Blaine and obtained the Volcano Badge. Reward: 500 World Points.]

[Ding! Charizard's potential has been stimulated during the extreme battle. Mastery of Dragon type moves has increased.]

[Current World Points: 23,700.]

Just as everyone was celebrating, the three members of Team Rocket in the corner were quietly trying to slip away.

"Stop right there," Blaine said without even turning around. "You three caused such a disturbance in my guesthouse and even activated the Gym's mechanism without permission. Do you really think you can just leave like that?"

Team Rocket froze instantly.

Ash looked at them and suddenly had an idea.

"Mr. Blaine, since your guesthouse is short staffed, why not have them stay and work here to repay the damage?"

"Huh?!" the three members of Team Rocket shouted together.

Blaine stroked his chin thoughtfully before revealing a meaningful smile.

"That's not a bad idea. My guesthouse does happen to need a few helpers. Let them stay here and work. As for their wages… we'll just consider it compensation for my losses."

"No way!" Jessie wailed.

"We're Team Rocket, destined to capture rare Pokémon!" James cried miserably.

"How can we end up working here, meow?!" Meowth protested.

But under Blaine's unquestionable gaze and the friendly stares of Ash and the others, Team Rocket ultimately had no choice but to surrender.

And so, in the days that followed, the Riddle Guesthouse on Cinnabar Island gained three rather unusual employees, dressed in maid outfits and butler uniforms, courtesy of Blaine's strange sense of humor.

When Ash left Cinnabar Island, he looked back once more at the volcano that still smoked in the distance.

The seventh badge was now in his possession, bringing him one step closer to the Indigo Plateau.

Only one badge remained.

Ash clenched his fist, determination shining in his eyes.

The next destination: Viridian Gym.

A/N: Just to clarify, Magmar's special move in this battle was completely original, so please don't compare it with anything official!
