Chapter 2: Encounter – Nyaromon!
"Fox Tail!"
At the critical moment, a small, yellow blur shot out from the dense underbrush, launching itself like a tiny hero into the fray.
Mizuki's mind raced, fragmented memories aligning in an instant as he recognized the creature blocking his path.
[Nyaromon, an In-Training Level Digimon.]
[A small Digimon possessing distinct feline characteristics. Its signature move is 'Fox Tail', where it puffs up its tail, stiffening the fur into steel-like wires to strike enemies.]
The sudden influx of data did not bring the relief of a narrow escape. Instead, a heavy knot of dread twisted in Mizuki's gut. Nyaromon was merely an In-Training Digimon. Pitted against a towering, heavily armored Champion-level Kuwagamon, the power disparity was an impossible chasm.
Yet, the scene that unfolded next shattered all logic.
With a fierce, high-pitched cry, the tiny Nyaromon slammed her stiffened tail directly into the giant insect's mandibles. The sheer kinetic force of the impact defied reality, sending the massive Kuwagamon skidding backward through the dirt, its heavy claws tearing deep gouges into the earth!
Mizuki stared, utterly dumbfounded. 'What?'
Before he could process the impossible feat, a new voice broke through the clearing from behind.
"Nyaromon, where have you been—wait, did you do this?"
A red, mammalian Digimon trotted into view, its multiple tails swishing behind it with crackling static.
"Elecmon?!" Mizuki blurted out.
"Huh? Who are you, kid? Do you know me?" Elecmon paused, eyeing Mizuki with a mix of curiosity and suspicion before turning his attention back to the tiny yellow feline.
"You actually managed to knock Kuwagamon away. That is pretty impressive." Elecmon grinned, baring his sharp teeth. "I told you, Nyaromon, you could do it! Now then, let me take care of this oversized bug!"
Elecmon planted his paws firmly into the earth. His nine tails fanned out behind him like a vibrant peacock's plumage, the air growing heavy with volatile energy. Dazzling, jagged bolts of electricity erupted from the tips!
[Flickering Thunder Strike!]
A blinding flash tore through the forest. The surging electricity slammed into Kuwagamon with a deafening crack, far exceeding the expected output of a standard attack. The sheer destructive force radiating from the blast made it hard to believe a mere Rookie-level Digimon had unleashed it.
But as Mizuki's racing mind processed the situation, the anomaly made perfect sense. As the permanent guardian of the Village of Beginnings, tasked with protecting countless newborn and In-Training Digimon, Elecmon had to be battle-hardened. His data accumulation and combat experience would naturally eclipse that of an average Rookie.
Just as that realization settled in, an overwhelming, crushing wave of exhaustion crashed over Mizuki. The adrenaline that had kept him upright abruptly vanished. His knees buckled. The world tilted sideways as he collapsed onto the damp forest floor.
Through his fading vision, the last thing he registered was the small, yellow form of Nyaromon frantically hopping toward him.
"Thank you..."
He forced the words past his dry lips, expending the very last ounce of his strength before darkness swallowed his consciousness entirely.
By the time Mizuki slowly blinked his eyes open, the ambient light had faded into the muted hues of twilight. He stared blankly at the unfamiliar wooden ceiling, the scent of dried leaves and fresh soil filling his lungs. He shifted his weight, attempting to push himself up from the makeshift bed of woven grass, but a high-pitched voice immediately halted his movements.
"Ah, wait a moment! You can't move yet."
"That's right, that's right! Your condition is still really poor, so it's best to stay completely still."
Mizuki turned his head, his gaze landing on the two small figures hovering anxiously by his side. For a fleeting second, he froze. These were faces he had seen countless times through screens in his past life, now breathing and speaking right in front of him.
"Koromon... and Monodramon?!"
"You know us?" The pink, round Koromon and the small, purple Monodramon exchanged bewildered glances, both tilting their heads in perfect, synchronized confusion.
"Um... where exactly am I right now?" Mizuki asked, rubbing his throbbing temples.
"Village Chief Elecmon and Nyaromon brought you back here," Monodramon answered earnestly, his small claws gesturing around the cozy room. "You were attacked by a scary Kuwagamon."
"And where are they now?"
"They aren't here right now," Koromon chimed in, bouncing slightly in place. "Elecmon took Nyaromon away for special training."
Monodramon nodded in agreement before leaning in closer, his large eyes blinking with intense curiosity. "Speaking of which, what kind of Digimon are you anyway? We have never seen anything like you before."
Mizuki offered a faint, dry smile, choosing not to answer immediately. Listening to the innocent chatter of the two Digimon, the pieces of his current situation rapidly fell into place. He was undeniably in the Digital World—specifically, the era of the original Digimon Adventure. Given the presence of Koromon and the fact that the Village of Beginnings was still peaceful, this had to be the timeline just before the DigiDestined children arrived on File Island.
However, Nyaromon was the anomaly. In Mizuki's extensive knowledge of the lore, the only prominent Nyaromon was the one destined to partner with Hikari Yagami. But according to the established history, that specific Digi-Egg had been separated from the others long before they hatched. It was highly unlikely this was the same one.
Pushing those analytical thoughts aside, Mizuki gritted his teeth and slowly swung his legs over the edge of the bed.
Seeing his struggle, Koromon and Monodramon immediately hopped forward in a panic, ready to push him back down. Mizuki gently raised a hand to halt their advance.
"Don't worry, I am fine." He offered them a reassuring smile, rolling his shoulders to test his mobility. "I can feel my own body. I have recovered enough to walk. Can you two take me to find Elecmon and Nyaromon now? I need to thank them properly."
The two small Digimon exchanged another hesitant glance. After a moment of silent deliberation, they finally bobbed their heads in unison, yielding to his gentle but firm request.
"Nyaromon, use your ultimate move!"
"Weren't you so amazing before? Why are you failing now!"
"Take this seriously!"
Even before they reached the clearing, the sharp, stern echoes of Elecmon's reprimands drifted through the dense foliage.
Guided by Monodramon and Koromon, Mizuki pushed past a thick cluster of ferns. The sight of the two Digimon engaged in rigorous training immediately came into view.
"You—that kid?!" Elecmon's ears twitched. He whipped his head around, instantly spotting the human intruder at the edge of the clearing.
Before the fiery guardian could open his mouth to scold the two guides for bringing a patient out of bed, Mizuki stepped forward, taking the initiative.
"Elecmon, I have recovered quite a bit." His tone was polite but steady. "I practically forced Koromon and Monodramon to bring me here, so please don't blame them. I just wanted to express my deepest gratitude to you and Nyaromon for saving my life."
Elecmon let out a heavy snort. He shot a brief, warning glare at the shrinking Koromon and Monodramon before crossing his arms and addressing Mizuki.
"Nyaromon is the one who saved you. I merely followed suit to clean up the mess."
With that dismissive remark, Elecmon turned his piercing gaze back to the exhausted little feline.
"The guy you saved came looking for you, so we will end this training session here for today." His tone softened slightly, though the strict edge remained. "However, I hope you realize the special nature of your identity. I am not intentionally treating you so harshly just to be cruel. You should be clearer than anyone about how dangerous and troublesome the existence of a Holy-species Digimon is on this File Island."
Nyaromon remained completely silent.
Under Elecmon's heavy reprimand, she merely shrank her small, yellow body closer to the dirt, not daring to utter a single word in response. This timid, almost pitiful appearance formed a jarring contrast to the fearless, courageous warrior who had thrown herself head-on at a monstrous Kuwagamon just hours prior.
Elecmon gave a final, authoritative nod before turning and marching off into the forest, leaving them alone.
Only when the sound of his footsteps completely faded did Nyaromon's tense body finally sag in relief. But before she could even take a proper breath, a shadow fell over her.
"Hello, Nyaromon. My name is Mizuki."
The voice was gentle, lacking any of the harshness she had just endured. "Thank you for saving me earlier."
Hearing the soft, sincere tone, Nyaromon flinched, instinctively curling her tail around herself. She stayed huddled like that for a long, quiet moment. Finally, gathering a tiny fraction of her earlier bravery, she slowly lifted her head, her large eyes meeting Mizuki's gaze.
"Y-You're welcome..." she squeaked, her voice barely a whisper against the rustling leaves.
