Rodrigo's hand remained against the jug for a moment after she pulled hers away. Then he turned toward her fully, his eyes settling on her face.
Nina's lips moved before she could stop herself.
"Sorry," she said quickly. "I didn't know you were reaching for it—"
"Are you okay?"
The question caught her off guard.
She looked at him properly then, and the concern in his expression only made the heat in her cheeks spread faster. Her legs pulled together beneath the table while her fingers curled tightly against her lap.
"I'm fine," she replied softly.
His eyes stayed on her a second longer before they lowered slightly.
Nina stopped breathing.
Her heartbeat slammed hard against her chest, loud enough that she was suddenly sure he could hear it. The thought alone made her look away immediately.
Beside her, she heard the soft sound of water pouring into a glass.
Rodrigo slid the cup toward her.
"Drink."
