Chapter 18 - The Baron’s Wrath

That was how it all began.

That was how the Vampire Baron had started his massacre.

Humans were slaughtered.

Others were turned.

But not just anyone could be transformed.

There was one condition.

The target had to possess no bloodline at all.

In this new world, such people had become almost mythical—rarer than stories of the tooth fairy.

That was why Ashley and Miss Cambrian had been chosen.

The Baron intended to turn them into vampires.

His loyal subjects.

His blood covenant.

But then—

Kai had arrived.

The Baron slowly rose from the shattered trees where Kai's punch had sent him flying.

He wiped a thin line of blood from the corner of his mouth.

Then he sneered.

"That bastard…"

"Playing the main-character plot armor on me."

"Tsk. How insolent."

His crimson eyes narrowed.

"That attack didn't even truly injure me."

"It only sent me flying."

"But why?"

"Who is that creature?"

"What is he?"

"Those white wings…"

For the first time, uncertainty flickered in his gaze.

Not fear.

Never fear.

But recognition.

He spoke to the voice within his bloodline.

"Kara kale more hara visa."

The inner voice answered at once.

"Laster?"

Then it spoke again, its tone lower.

"That is no ordinary king."

"That… is how an overlord carries himself."

"The way he does not care."

"The overwhelming gap in power."

"The feeling that none can bind him."

"These are the signs of one who follows only his own values."

"He is an emperor."

"An overlord."

"A true king of kings."

The Baron's expression twisted in irritation.

Then he cursed violently in the vampire tongue.

"Las Vegras ayyfe!! Shhsysev!!"

Even without translation, the sheer venom in his voice was obvious.

Before Kai Arrived

Moments earlier, the battlefield had already descended into chaos.

Ashley stood before the Vampire Baron, breathing heavily.

Her clothes were torn.

Blood stained her arms.

But she still stood.

Miss Cambrian lay behind her, injured but conscious.

Nearby—

Kayla Verdict.

Draven's daughter.

Her body was broken and motionless.

Frost had begun to spread across her skin.

Her white hair shimmered like snow under moonlight.

The Divine Ice Empress Fox bloodline was consuming her.

The battlefield itself had frozen.

Snow began to fall from clouds that moments before had shown no sign of storm.

The ground was covered in ice.

Trees had become frozen sculptures.

Ashley gritted her teeth and lunged.

A spear of condensed mana formed in her hand and shot toward the Baron.

He caught it effortlessly.

Then shattered it.

The explosion threw Ashley backward.

She crashed into the frozen ground, gasping.

The Baron stepped forward.

Slowly.

Predatorily.

"You should be honored," he said softly.

"To become one of mine."

He reached for her—

Then thunder split the battlefield.

Kai had arrived.

Now, standing before the frozen Kayla, Kai's thoughts raced.

At first, he only looked at her pale face and white hair.

Whiter than even his own.

Then realization struck.

She protects Ashley and Miss Cambrian.

She is important.

Have to save.

Kai turned to Draven.

The once cold and stone-faced military leader no longer looked like a general.

He looked only like a father.

A desperate one.

Snow fell harder.

Kai could feel the deadly cold surrounding Kayla.

The temperature was dropping rapidly.

He asked urgently,

"How can I help?"

Draven's voice trembled.

"I… I wanted my daughter to remain pure."

"But… I can't lose her."

Before anyone else could speak—

A red screen appeared before Kai.

SYSTEM QUEST UPDATE

Kai stared.

Wait… what?

"Didn't you say finding her would awaken my bloodline?"

He immediately checked the reward panel.

REWARDS

+5 Status Points

Instant Level Up ×5

That was it.

No awakening.

No dramatic transformation.

Nothing.

Kai stood frozen.

All of this happened in less than a millisecond within his mind.

Then—

Draven spoke the words aloud.

Without filtering them.

Without hesitation.

"Please… have sex with my daughter to heal her."

Kai's brain stopped.

WHAT?

Shock rippled through him.

But there was no time to process it.

A blood spear shot toward his head.

Fast.

Lethal.

Instinct took over.

Kai raised his hand.

Black scales spiraled across his arm.

Not white.

Black.

Ancient and draconic.

The blood spear struck.

CRACK.

The scale armor fractured.

Kai's eyes widened.

That almost killed me.

Then he looked up.

And saw them.

Thousands.

No—

Tens of thousands of blood spears forming in the sky.

The Baron raised one hand.

Then spoke a single word.

"Grvast."

Crimson Javelin Absolute.

Kai vanished.

Lightning flashed.

He flickered in and out of existence, reappearing far from the survivors.

Away from Ashley.

Away from Kayla.

Away from the others.

He landed alone in an open frozen clearing.

Then—

He smiled.

Slowly.

A grin spread across his face.

Wild.

Unstable.

Like a battle maniac finally tasting war.

My first real battle.

He rolled his shoulders.

Though he still didn't know how to properly punch—

Something inside him had changed.

The bloodline memories.

They had not only given him spells.

They had given him martial knowledge.

Combat techniques.

Battle instincts.

Memories from worlds beyond this one.

Fighting like a seasoned warrior suddenly no longer felt strange.

Lightning crackled around his hands.

Then condensed.

Twin daggers formed from pure blue electricity.

The frozen battlefield lit up in flashes of stormlight.

Kai lifted the blades.

His blindfold fluttered in the wind.

And the grin on his face deepened.

"Come then," he whispered.

The Vampire Baron smiled back.

And the battle began.
