Chapter 46 - Locked Room Method

"When you entered this room, you pretended to trip and fall in shock, but in reality, you deliberately went to the mixing console and turned off the speakers behind the photo."

Kudo said.

"Detective, please check the CD in the machine. It should only have Yoshino's fingerprints on it."

As Heiji revealed the evidence and saw that the truth was exposed, Fujimaru Yoshino suddenly Ran back to the main house's living room as if fleeing.

"Yoshino! Why! Why did you do this?!"

When everyone caught up, Fujimaru Kazuo asked.

Fujimaru Yoshino did not answer. After smashing the couple's photo in the living room, she suddenly grabbed a knife and lunged at Fujimaru Kazuo.

However, the attempt failed. Fujimaru Kazuo was pulled away by Officer Moriaya, while Heiji picked up a mop nearby, blocked Fujimaru Yoshino, and knocked the knife out of her hand.

"Don't add more crimes!"

Heiji said.

"I've given you everything all this time. From when I started as your assistant, how much inspiration did I give you for composing? That song was originally mine!"

Fujimaru Yoshino looked at her husband and poured out her heart, but what she got in return was Fujimaru Kazuo's retort:

"Nonsense! Even if the initial inspiration was yours! But I'm the one who completed it!"

Facing such a result, Fujimaru Yoshino instead laughed.

"If it could help you, I wouldn't mind even then. Even if you're this kind of person, I still deeply love you! But that woman intruded."

Saying that, Fujimaru Yoshino recalled what Miss Hidetsuko said when she confronted Miss Hidetsuko after discovering her husband's affair with his assistant—the person who chose to play the song named "Bond" during their affair was her husband.

"The only one who believes there's a bond between two people is me!"

"If my ball hadn't broken the window, then Mr. Kazuo should have been on the sofa, Ms. Yoshino, you wouldn't have..."

Kudo stepped forward and asked at this point.

"I originally planned to kill both of them! To figure out the frequency of the glass shattering, I first experimented with my picture frame. Everything has been seen through."

Saying that, Fujimaru Yoshino glanced at Heiji and Kudo, then faced Fujimaru Kazuo.

"Husband, just you wait. I'll tell the police everything!"

Her tone changed from gentle to ruthless, finally tearing off the necklace with their photo on it from her neck and throwing it at Fujimaru Kazuo.

"The bond between the two of us!"

"You stinky woman! What bond?!"

Being treated like this and enraged by his wife's words, Fujimaru Kazuo roared and was about to hit Fujimaru Yoshino, but unexpectedly, Kazuha and Ran suddenly intervened. The two of them stopped Fujimaru Kazuo and kicked him onto the sofa.

"Looking down on bonds! I won't forgive you!"

"We won't let you off lightly!"

Ran and Kazuha said.

This scene, however, startled Kudo and Heiji, who were standing by. Officer Sato, on the other hand, smiled as she looked at the two Detectives: "You two should be careful too!"

The case was over, and Heiji, Kudo, and the other two left the Fujimaru residence.

"Toiru, when did you start suspecting Yoshino?"

On the way, Heiji asked Kudo.

"When she first came back, she let something slip. It was as if she already knew what had happened between the two of them."

"Ah, it seems I can't underestimate the people of Tokyo. Besides Kudo and the like, there are people like you!"

After hearing Kudo's words, Heiji said, glancing at the time: "Ah! The match has already started! Kazuha, hurry up!"

Saying that, after Kazuha and Ran bid them "goodbye," the two quickly left.

Watching the two of them leave, Ran looked at Kudo with a bit of helplessness.

"It's all your fault for not being decisive! You missed the chance to make things clear."

"You can't be sure about that."

Kudo, however, smiled slightly, "You can't underestimate the Famous Detective of Naniwa!"

At this moment, Kazuha, who was running hard behind Heiji, asked the Heiji in front of her: "Heiji! Toiru wouldn't be..."

"Don't say it, it's fine. Let's just look forward to our next meeting! Next time, you won't use a silly name like Toiru, will you!"

Meanwhile, at Teitan High School's old school building, Takato walked towards the rooftop by himself, making Nakagawa Moemi follow him in confusion.

Upon reaching the rooftop, Takato stopped and turned to look at Nakagawa Moemi.

"Detective? Didn't you say we were going back to the old school building to find Sonoko? Why are we here?"

Nakagawa Moemi asked, somewhat puzzled.

"Yes, it's precisely because I need to find Sonoko that I came here. So, Nakagawa, can you tell me where Sonoko is?"

Takato said, looking at the Female student in front of him.

"Detective, what are you talking about? How would I know where Sonoko is?"

Nakagawa Moemi retorted with a puzzled expression. Seeing her reaction, Takato was not surprised and continued.

"Hmm... Let me think about where to start. You told me that after you went out and returned to the classroom, you found the door locked from the inside, so Kunikawa went to the gatekeeper to get the key, and after opening the door, you found Sonoko missing, right?"

"Yes."

"And since you couldn't lock the door from the outside without a key, you initially thought Sonoko had accidentally locked the door from the inside. So, after getting the key and opening the door, you didn't see Sonoko and assumed she was missing, so you started looking for her."

"Yes, that's right. So, after Ayako and I searched for Sonoko for a while and couldn't find her, Ayako went to get help, and then brought you, the Detective, over. Is there anything wrong with that?"

"Of course there is. Because that door was never locked from the beginning!"

Takato revealed the answer.

"But, Ayako and I both couldn't open the door at the time, so how could it not have been locked?!"

"Because the door was blocked by something."

Takato began to explain, "The point I noticed that was wrong was that this door actually opens outwards! Perhaps it's a design flaw, but this point is precisely the key to this method! To prevent the door from opening, you just need to block it from the outside!"

"But Ayako and I were both there at the time. If something was blocking the door, how could we not have seen it?!"

Nakagawa Moemi said, somewhat agitated.

"Of course you couldn't see it! Because the thing blocking the door was right under your feet!"

Takato said gravely: "The classroom door is located at the corner of the stairs. There's only a very narrow and very short passageway in front of the door, and its size is just enough to be covered by two oil painting canvases!"

Hearing Takato's words, Nakagawa Moemi was clearly stunned for a moment, and Takato continued.

"That's right, and the stairs are carpeted, so all you have to do is, after leaving the room, place two oil painting canvases under the carpet, raising the entire floor. This way, from the outside, you wouldn't notice anything. But the raised canvases could block the bottom edge of the door! And when opening the door from the outside, with two people standing on them, it would be impossible to open the door!"
