Chapter 43 - THE HEART THAT STAYS, EVEN WHEN THE WORLD MOVES

The morning felt heavier than usual.

Not because of exhaustion—

But because of anticipation.

Christy stood before the tall windows of the academy's main hall, her gaze fixed on the distant horizon where the royal carriage had just arrived. The golden insignia of the Valcrest royal family reflected sunlight in a way that made it impossible to ignore.

"…So it's finally happening," she said quietly, more to herself than anyone else. "Not just nobles, not just observers… but the royal family stepping in directly. That means whatever comes next won't be something we can treat lightly or push aside as just another development."

She crossed her arms slightly, her thoughts far from calm.

This isn't just about Luxe anymore.

It's about the kingdom.

And what role he's going to be forced into… or choose for himself.

Footsteps approached.

She didn't need to turn to know who it was.

"…You're thinking too much again," Luxe said calmly.

Christy smiled faintly.

"…And you're thinking too far ahead again," she replied. "It's a strange balance we've found… you looking forward, and me trying to understand where you're already standing."

Luxe stopped beside her.

"…That's not a bad balance," he said. "As long as we don't lose track of where we are now."

Christy turned toward him.

"…And where exactly is that?" she asked. "Because from where I'm standing, it feels like we're about to step into something that's going to change everything again."

Luxe didn't hesitate.

"…We are," he said.

The hall shifted the moment the doors opened.

Silence followed—

Not forced, but natural.

Because presence alone demanded it.

The King of Valcrest, Albert von Valcrest entered first, his posture calm but carrying authority that didn't need to be announced. Behind him stood the Queen Rosario, composed and observant, her gaze sweeping across the room with quiet precision.

Christy straightened slightly.

This… is different from the nobles.

This isn't influence.

This is absolute authority.

The King's gaze fell on Luxe.

"…Luxe von Valcrest," he said, his voice deep, steady, and impossible to ignore. "You've created quite a situation for yourself."

Christy's heart skipped slightly.

That tone…

This isn't just a father speaking to his son.

This is a king addressing a variable.

Luxe stepped forward.

"…The situation was already forming," he said calmly. "I only acted when it became unavoidable."

The King's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…That's an interesting way to frame it," he said. "Most would say you accelerated it."

Christy glanced between them.

This isn't a conversation…

It's a test.

Inside Luxe's mind—

The memory surfaced.

In my previous life…

This conversation went differently.

I responded defensively.

And that created distance.

His gaze sharpened slightly.

Not this time.

Luxe spoke again.

"…Acceleration only matters if the outcome is unstable," he said. "From what I've seen, delaying what's inevitable creates more damage than acting early."

The Queen spoke this time, her voice calm but sharp.

"…And you believe you understand what is inevitable?" she asked. "That kind of confidence usually comes with experience… or something else."

Christy felt it again—

That pressure.

They're not just questioning him…

They're trying to understand him.

Luxe met her gaze.

"…It comes from observation," he said. "And the willingness to act before situations escalate beyond control."

The King studied him for a moment.

"…You've changed," he said. "Not just in strength… but in how you carry yourself. There's a level of certainty in your decisions that wasn't there before."

Christy's chest tightened slightly.

He noticed it too…

Luxe didn't deny it.

"…Circumstances require it," he said.

Christy watched him.

Carefully.

He's not lying…

But he's not saying everything either.

Her thoughts drifted—

Back to every moment.

Every decision.

Every time he spoke like he was already ahead of everything.

It's like…

He's protecting something.

Or… protecting us from something.

Her grip tightened slightly.

And if that's true…

Then I don't want him carrying it alone.

The King spoke again.

"…The kingdom is entering a phase where uncertainty is no longer acceptable," he said. "Your actions have made you a central figure in what comes next. That means your choices will no longer affect just yourself… but everyone connected to you."

Christy felt the weight of those words.

That includes me…

Luxe responded calmly.

"…I'm aware," he said.

The Queen stepped slightly forward.

"…Then understand this as well," she said. "Whatever path you choose, it will not remain yours alone. It will shape alliances, create enemies, and define the future of this kingdom."

Christy looked at Luxe—

Waiting.

He didn't hesitate.

"…Then I'll choose carefully," he said.

Later—

The hall emptied.

Christy walked beside him again, but this time—

Her thoughts weren't calm.

"…You handled that the same way you handled the nobles," she said slowly. "Not by answering everything… but by guiding the conversation where you wanted it to go."

Luxe glanced at her.

"…Because answering everything isn't always the right move," he said.

Christy stopped walking.

"…Luxe," she said softly, "can I ask you something honestly?"

He stopped too.

"…Go ahead," he said.

She looked directly at him.

"…When you speak like that… when you make decisions like that… it feels like you're not just thinking ahead," she said. "It feels like you're trying to avoid something specific… something you've already seen happen."

Silence.

Luxe didn't answer immediately.

Christy's voice softened.

"…I'm not asking you to explain everything," she said. "I just want to understand one thing… are you trying to protect us from something?"

Luxe looked at her.

"…Yes," he said quietly.

Her chest tightened slightly.

"…Then don't do it alone," she said.

She stepped closer.

"…Because whatever it is… I'm part of it too," she added.

Luxe held her gaze.

"…I know," he said.

"…Kyuu…"

Sylvia appeared—

Looking between them.

Christy smiled softly.

"…See?" she said gently. "Even she knows something's changing."

Luxe glanced at Sylvia.

"…Then we'll change with it," he said.

Christy stood beside him—

Closer than ever.

I don't know everything you're hiding…

But I trust you.

She smiled slightly.

"…Whatever comes next," she said softly, "we face it together."

Luxe nodded.

"…Together," he said.

Sylvia chirped happily.

"…Kyuu…"

And as the kingdom shifted—

So did their future.
