Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Shifting Bonds

Yassin walked out of the classroom with steady steps, his mind calm on the surface but constantly analyzing everything beneath, the events of the evaluation still fresh, the reactions of the students, the shift in their toward him, and most importantly, Karim's response, no longer dismissive, no longer mocking, but sharp, focused, as if a line had been crossed and could not be undone, as he moved through the corridor, the usual noise of students surrounded him, conversations, laughter, footsteps echoing against the walls, but for him, it all felt distant, secondary, his thoughts centered on one thing—progress, he was moving forward, and everyone was starting to notice, which meant things would only get harder from here, more resistance, more pressure, more expectations, and he needed to be ready for all of it, as he reached the end of the hallway, a soft voice called out his name, "Yassin," he stopped and turned, already knowing who it was, Hajar approached him with a calm expression, but her eyes carried curiosity, a quiet intensity as if she was trying to understand something she couldn't quite grasp, for a brief moment, neither of them spoke, the air between them filled with an unspoken tension, different from the one he had with Karim, softer, but no less important, "You've really changed," she said finally, her voice gentle but direct, Yassin held her gaze, aware that this moment mattered more than it seemed, in his previous life, he had ignored moments like this, brushed them aside without thinking, and that was how he had lost her, slowly, without even realizing it, but now, he understood, every interaction counted, every word, every reaction, "Maybe I just realized I was wasting too much time," he replied, his tone calm, honest, not trying to impress, not trying to hide, Hajar studied him for a second longer, as if weighing his words, then a small smile appeared on her face, subtle but real, "That's… a good change," she said, and for the first time, Yassin felt something shift inside him, not just determination, not just focus, but something warmer, something he had almost forgotten, before he could respond, however, another presence stepped into the moment, heavier, more direct, "Looks like you're getting popular," Karim's voice cut in, calm but carrying an edge, Yassin turned slowly, meeting his gaze, the tension returning instantly, but this time, it wasn't just between the two of them, Hajar's presence made it different, more layered, Karim glanced briefly at her before focusing back on Yassin, "Don't get ahead of yourself," he continued, his tone steady, "Matching me once doesn't mean anything," Yassin didn't react immediately, he simply held his gaze, calm, controlled, refusing to be pulled into unnecessary emotion, "Then I'll just have to do it again," he replied, his voice quiet but firm, the kind of confidence that didn't need to be loud to be felt, Karim's eyes narrowed slightly, a faint smile appearing, not mocking, but challenging, "Good," he said, "I'd be disappointed if you didn't try," and with that, he turned and walked away, leaving behind a tension that didn't fade, but instead settled deeper, more permanent, Hajar looked between them, clearly sensing the shift, "You two…" she started, but stopped herself, as if unsure what to say, Yassin exhaled lightly, his thoughts already moving forward, this rivalry wasn't just personal, it was part of his path now, something he would have to face again and again, and he welcomed it, because it pushed him, forced him to improve, to grow faster than he ever had before, as the moment settled, the system screen flickered faintly once more, [Side Mission Progress: 75%], a clear sign that he was getting closer, closer to surpassing Karim, closer to completing his first real challenge, Yassin's eyes focused forward, his mind sharp, everything was aligning, the system, the rivalry, the connections, it was all part of the same path, and as he stood there, one thing became clearer than ever—this was no longer just about fixing his past mistakes, this was about building something greater, something stronger, a future that no one would be able to ignore, and he was just getting started.
