The sniper laid on his stomach on top of the high, dark hill. He looked through his gun scope. He saw the red dust bullet hit Elias's hand and flatten out.
"I missed,"
the sniper said. He couldn't believe his eyes.
Tyrian Callows stood right behind him. Tyrian had a long, purple scorpion tail. He laughed like a crazy person. His laugh echoed off the empty rocks.
"You missed?"
Tyrian asked. He giggled loudly.
"The great assassin missed a sitting duck? My goddess won't like that at all. She gave us a simple job."
"I didn't miss,"
the sniper said angrily.
"The guy blocked it. He caught it with his bare hand."
"That's impossible,"
Tyrian smiled a very scary smile.
"Nobody catches a sniper bullet. You just have bad aim. Shoot again. Kill the man first. He is in the way. Then kill Summer Rose. My goddess wants her dead today."
The sniper nodded. He loaded another heavy red dust bullet into his long rifle. He aimed carefully at Elias's head.
Down in the valley, Elias looked up. His eyes locked right onto the sniper's hiding spot. He was very far away, but Elias saw him clearly.
Elias didn't pull out a gun. He didn't pull out a sword. He just raised his right hand. He pointed his index finger at the dark hill.
"What are you doing?"
Summer asked. She held her scythe tight.
"Shooting back,"
Elias said.
A tiny spark of blue lightning flashed on his fingertip. It hummed quietly. Then, it shot forward. It was a highly compressed lightning bullet. It made no loud noise. It just cut through the air faster than sound.
On the hill, the sniper prepared to pull his trigger.
*Zap.*
The blue lightning hit the sniper right in the middle of his head. His aura didn't even flash. He fell over sideways. He didn't move anymore. He was dead instantly.
Tyrian stopped laughing. He looked at the dead sniper on the ground. He looked at the tiny burn mark on the man's head. The sniper's brain was completely fried.
Tyrian looked down the hill. He saw Elias standing there with his finger still pointing up.
Tyrian felt a huge rush of anger in his chest. He loved Salem more than anything in the world. He worshipped her. He wanted to destroy anyone who stood in her way. This man, Elias, was dangerous. He was a real threat to the goddess.
"I will cut you to pieces,"
Tyrian whispered to himself. He flexed his sharp metal claws. His scorpion tail swung back and forth, ready to strike.
He stepped forward. He got ready to jump down the hill and fight. He wanted to kill Elias with his own hands.
Suddenly, a dark puddle of black mud formed on the rock right next to Tyrian. A Seer Grimm floated out of it. It had a round, white bone face and long red tentacles. It looked like a floating jellyfish.
Salem's cold voice spoke from the Grimm.
"Tyrian. Stop."
Tyrian froze immediately. He dropped to his knees right away. He bowed his head to the dark monster.
"My queen,"
Tyrian said respectfully.
"They are right down there. Summer Rose is there. And a man. He just killed your sniper with a strange magic trick. He is a threat to you. I won't let him live. I will end his life right now."
"No,"
Salem's voice shook. It wasn't cold anymore. It sounded completely terrified. She sounded like she was gasping for air.
Tyrian blinked in shock. He had never heard Salem sound scared before. She was immortal. She was the absolute master of the Grimm. Nothing scared her.
"I don't understand,"
Tyrian said. He stood up a little bit.
"We have an army of Grimm here in the valley. You brought them all here. Order the army to attack them. I will lead the charge. We can easily kill them all."
"I said no!"
Salem yelled loudly through the Seer.
"Look at the woman standing next to him."
Tyrian looked down the hill again. He saw Dee. She was just standing there next to Summer. She looked totally normal. She didn't look like a warrior.
"I see her,"
Tyrian said.
"She looks weak."
"You are a complete fool,"
Salem whispered. Her voice trembled badly.
"Retreat right now. Do not fight them. If you stay there, you will die."
The Seer Grimm melted back into the black mud. The connection broke off completely.
Tyrian stood up slowly. His hands shook. Salem's pure fear made him feel sick to his stomach. If his goddess was terrified, then this was real, absolute danger. He looked at Elias and Dee one last time.
He didn't want to die today. He wanted to live and serve Salem. Tyrian turned around. He ran away as fast as his legs could carry him. He disappeared into the dark rocks and shadows.
Down in the valley, Elias lowered his hand. He blew a little bit of smoke off his index finger. He watched the top of the hill carefully.
"Did you get him?"
Summer asked. Her silver eyes were wide open in shock.
"I got the sniper,"
Elias said calmly.
"But there was someone else up there with him. A crazy guy with a scorpion tail."
"Tyrian Callows,"
Summer gasped. She gripped her white scythe tighter.
"He is one of Salem's top killers. He's a complete madman. He never stops fighting. He will hunt us down until we are dead."
Elias looked at her and looked confused.
"Well, the madman just ran away."
"Ran away?"
Summer asked. She couldn't believe it.
"Tyrian doesn't run away. He is a psychopath."
"He did,"
Elias said. He crossed his arms over his chest.
"He ran really fast. Like a scared little dog."
Elias turned his head to look at Dee. Dee was smiling brightly. She had her hands behind her back. She looked very guilty.
"Dee,"
Elias said.
"What did you do?"
Dee put her tongue out in a cute way. She tapped the side of her head with one finger.
"Oops,"
Dee smiled.
"I think it's my fault."
"Your fault?"
Summer asked. She looked back and forth between Elias and Dee.
"What do you mean?"
Dee looked at Elias. She decided to use her meta knowledge again. She knew everything about this world and the story.
"I knew Tyrian was up there,"
Dee explained to Elias.
"He's totally crazy. He loves Salem very much. He thinks she is a real god. He normally wouldn't run away from a fight."
"So why did he run?"
Elias asked.
"I only shot the sniper."
"Because Salem told him to run,"
Dee giggled.
"I felt a bit funny a minute ago. There was a little Grimm bug crawling on the rock next to my shoe. It was a tiny scout bug. So, I played a little trick on it."
"What kind of trick?"
Elias asked. He knew Dee liked to mess around sometimes.
"I pushed just a tiny drop of my real aura into the Grimm,"
Dee said happily.
"Just a small drop to see what would happen. Since Salem is connected to all of her monsters, the energy went straight back to her brain."
Elias sighed heavily. He rubbed his face.
"You scared her."
"I scared her a whole lot,"
Dee admitted without any shame.
"Salem is very sensitive to gods. She had a really bad history with them. Right now, she might be having a huge panic attack in her dark tower. She probably told Tyrian to run away before we killed him."
Summer looked at Dee. She felt very lost. This conversation made no sense to her.
"I don't understand,"
Summer said. She slowly lowered her scythe.
"Salem is immortal. She isn't scared of anyone. Not even Ozpin. She can't die."
"Ozpin is weak,"
Dee waved her hand in the air.
"Salem isn't a god. She is just a poor woman. She got played by the Brother Gods a long time ago."
"The Brother Gods made our world,"
Summer argued softly.
"They created humanity. They are all-powerful."
"They are just snooty little twin brothers,"
Dee laughed out loud.
"They just have a little bit of power, and they act like big bullies. They cursed Salem with immortality just because they threw a temper tantrum. It's really sad when you think about it. Salem is just a broken lady who lost her husband. She just needs a hug and a very long nap."
Summer stared at Dee. Her mouth fell open a little bit. Nobody ever talked about the gods like that. Nobody ever pitied Salem. Salem was the ultimate evil.
"You think the gods are weak?"
Summer asked. Her voice was just a whisper.
"Compared to us?"
Dee smiled warmly at Summer.
"Yes. They are just ants on the sidewalk. Don't worry about them. And don't worry about Salem either."
Summer looked at Elias. Elias just nodded his head.
"She tells the truth,"
Elias said.
"We are here to protect you, Summer. Salem won't touch you."
Summer felt a strange feeling. She felt totally safe in the middle of the most dangerous place in the world. She smiled. She knew she was going to make it back home to Ruby and Yang.
"Okay,"
Summer said.
"I believe you. What do we do now?"
"Now, we go home,"
Dee said.
"The mission is over. We scared the bad guys away. Let's go bake some more cookies."
