An eagle lived on the high peak of a mountain. Down in the foothills, a crow had built its nest in a banyan tree.
He was extremely cunning and sly.
His constant endeavor was to procure food without having to expend any effort.
Rabbits lived in burrows situated around the tree. Whenever the rabbits ventured out, the eagle would soar high into the sky, swoop down, and carry off a rabbit or two.
One day, the crow thought to himself, "These clever rabbits won't fall into my clutches otherwise; if I want to feast on their tender meat, I must act just like the eagle. I will swoop down suddenly and snatch one up."
The very next day, with the intention of seizing a rabbit, the crow also took flight and soared high into the sky. Then, mimicking the eagle, he executed a powerful dive to capture a rabbit.
But how could a mere crow possibly compete with an eagle?
The rabbit spotted him, darted away instantly, and hid behind a rock.
Caught up in the momentum of his own dive, the crow crashed headlong into that rock.
The result was disastrous: his beak and neck snapped, and he writhed in agony for a moment before breathing his last right there.
