Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: She Wants the Child

In the spacious, tidy living room, a man in a military uniform sat on the sofa, his back ramrod straight. He stared down at his documents in silence.

The man didn't even look up when he heard the door open.

Olivia Wynne closed the door, took a deep breath, and cautiously made her way to the kitchen. She put the groceries and fruit into the refrigerator, then walked back to the living room. Not wanting to disturb William Wynne, she stood quietly to one side.

After a long while, William Wynne lowered his documents, his sharp gaze sweeping over to Olivia Wynne.

"Pregnant?"

Under William Wynne's sharp gaze, Olivia Wynne felt unexpectedly guilty and averted her eyes.

"Mm."

William Wynne's eyes darkened, his voice growing much colder. "Whose is it?"

Olivia Wynne found it hard to breathe. Feeling guilty, she didn't dare to meet William Wynne's eyes.

After a moment's hesitation, Olivia Wynne told the truth.

"I don't know."

'The original owner of this body slept with someone and left when she woke up, without even seeing who the man was. How am I supposed to know who that person is?'

"Abort it."

William Wynne issued the command directly.

Hearing this, Olivia Wynne immediately wrapped her arms protectively around her stomach and retorted, "No."

'During the apocalypse, human genes mutated, and humanity lost the ability to reproduce naturally. All newborns were created through genetic experiments. God only knows how precious children were back then.'

'Besides, I've always liked kids. The crucible of the apocalypse instilled in me the habit of cherishing children. Now I'm carrying one myself, and I have the means to raise this baby. There's no way I would ever abort my child.'

William Wynne seemed taken aback by her answer. His expression grew even fouler, darkening like charcoal.

Olivia Wynne quietly breathed a sigh of relief. She scooted closer to William Wynne, sat down, and gently tugged on his arm. In a wheedling tone, she said, "Uncle, the baby is innocent."

"Besides, a soft, chubby baby who will call me 'Mama' and call you 'Grand-uncle'—don't you think that's adorable?"

William Wynne's face darkened even more. He glanced down at her hand on his arm and frowned. "Sit properly. And stop acting so frivolously."

Olivia Wynne stole a glance at William Wynne. Seeing his stern expression, she immediately sat up much straighter.

William Wynne narrowed his eyes, his gaze sweeping over Olivia Wynne. After a long pause, he spoke slowly. "Get an abortion, or marry the baby's father. Pick one."

Olivia Wynne lowered her head, peeking at William Wynne from the corner of her eye. Her voice was very quiet.

"Uncle, I don't want to choose either. I'll raise the child by myself."

William Wynne pulled out a cigarette and lit it slowly. He took a drag before looking at Olivia Wynne. "And how will you raise it by yourself?"

Smoke drifted slowly through the living room. Olivia Wynne frowned slightly as the acrid smell filled her lungs.

William Wynne caught her expression from the corner of his eye. His gaze darkened for a moment before he stubbed out the cigarette and tossed the butt into the ashtray.

"You have two choices. Think about them."

With that, William Wynne stood up and went into the study.

Now, Olivia Wynne was alone in the living room. Staring in the direction William Wynne had gone, she felt a wave of frustration.

'The original owner's emotions were still affecting her. She, who hadn't been afraid even when facing zombies in the apocalypse, actually felt guilty and scared in front of William Wynne. It had to be the original owner's emotions influencing her.'

Olivia Wynne looked down at her stomach. She had her answer.

She was not going to get an abortion.

Having made up her mind, Olivia Wynne stopped agonizing over it. She stood up, walked to the kitchen, and prepared to cook.

'William Wynne was back now, so he probably hadn't eaten lunch. She would make a nice meal for them to eat together. Afterward, she would discuss the baby with him.'
