"Hello." Phoebe Faulkner answered the phone.
"Hello? Phoebe, what's going on? Your phone? Why couldn't I get through to you again? Didn't you just get a new phone a few days ago? It can't be out of battery, can it?" The moment the call connected, Kitty's voice came tumbling out.
"Kitty, don't even start. I'm just cursed," Phoebe Faulkner said, her voice on the verge of tears. "I have to go to the phone carrier's store with my ID and get my SIM card replaced. Again."
"What? What happened? Don't tell me you ran into a thief and they stole your phone again?"
"No... It's a long story." The phone Jace Lennox had given her was smashed. The one she'd gotten for free from the carrier was still around, just without the SIM card.
'From now on, she should stop using such expensive phones. She'd just use the free one she got with her plan.'
'At least it wouldn't be heartbreaking if that one got smashed.'
