The voice by her ear was familiar, and Phoebe Faulkner let out a sigh of relief. But the relief was short-lived; her heart, which had just begun to settle, leaped back into her throat.

"I went out." Jace Lennox was so close that Phoebe could feel his breath on her skin in the darkness. She turned her head away, a little flustered, and tried to justify herself. "I already made you dinner, I cleaned the villa, and I finished all my chores."
"Went out?" Jace Lennox's hand shot out, grabbing Phoebe Faulkner by the collar.
His hand was so cold that the moment it touched her, goosebumps erupted all over Phoebe Faulkner's skin.
"Who gave you permission to go out? And to stay out this late?"
