By the time they arrived, Annelise Valentine had already fallen asleep in the back seat.
A sudden jolt shook her awake. Groggily opening her eyes, she saw Jett Westgate beside her, staring at a laptop. He seemed to be reviewing a work report.
Jett Westgate asked, "You're awake?"
Annelise replied, "Yeah. Where are we going?"
"Stonecross Manor."
"Stonecross Manor?" She shot upright, her voice still thick with sleep as she recalled its apple orchard...
"I'm not staying there."
Jett Westgate's finger paused on the screen. "Why?"
"That place is halfway up a mountain. It's cold, remote... Who in their right mind would want to live there?"
"I want a luxury high-rise flat downtown, something with easy access to transit and plenty of shops."
"Pick one." Jett Westgate slid the laptop in front of her.
