Damian Fairchild thought of Audrey Winslow's words, and of Donovan Fairchild's warning.
He could only be cruel, replying to Seraphina Quinn, "With your background, you are far from qualified for the title of Mrs. Fairchild."
Seraphina Quinn nodded, indicating she understood.
"If it's just my foolish delusion, if I'm unworthy, then could I ask you, Mr. Fairchild, to be merciful and give me a chance to live?"
She paused, her words pointed.
"It was an ectopic pregnancy, yes, but if it weren't for you, Mr. Fairchild, I don't think I would have had to endure the pain of a D&C. I wouldn't have... ended up likely unable to ever get pregnant again. I just want to live. That's not too much to ask, is it?"
Damian Fairchild leaned over and placed a pillow behind her back before speaking softly.
"It's not." He paused, then his tone shifted. "But I don't want to let you go."
Seraphina Quinn was so furious she laughed. "What do you mean, you don't want to let me go?"
