"Why is it like that, though!" Arthur asked Su Chen, looking genuinely curious.
Su Chen immediately understood what Arthur was getting at. Instead of answering right away, he beckoned to Jiang Hui, who was standing nearby, and whispered a few instructions.
After Jiang Hui had left, Su Chen finally replied, "That's perfectly normal. Any country's cuisine has to be adapted to suit local tastes."
Arthur understood instantly. He realized those Cantonese restaurants must have seen he was a foreigner and adjusted the flavors to what they thought he would like.
Just like one of America's most famous dishes, General Tso's chicken, uses a sweet sauce, while in China, it's made with green and red chili peppers. Naturally, the taste is completely different.
"Ahem... I wonder if I'll be able to taste some authentic Cantonese food for lunch." Arthur showed no sign of embarrassment, looking rather expectant instead.
