Mrs. Reginald spoke with uncharacteristic sharpness. "Jean, have you thought about your relationship with Cecilia? About what the newspapers are saying? Have you given it any thought at all?"
"Grandma, I..." Jean Reginald hesitated at his grandmother's words, but a flicker of resolve soon hardened his gaze. "Grandma, since I've decided to be with Cecilia, I'm aware of the consequences. But no matter what, I have to be with her. I'm set on her."
Cecilia Ashworth, having just reached the doorway, happened to overhear Jean Reginald's resolute words. Her heart gave a sudden lurch, and a slow smile bloomed on her tear-streaked face.
'His words were all she needed. What was she waiting for?'
