Caden placed a black stone on the board without a word. His Gwen was bored and looking for some fun, and he wasn't about to spoil her mood.
"You must be joking, Miss Ashworth. You look so kind—how could you possibly have a withdrawn personality?" Seeing that Caden hadn't spared her so much as a glance, Alice was so furious she could have ground her teeth to dust. She had no choice but to force a smile and find a way to save face.
Seraphina gave a dry chuckle. "Is that so?"
Roxanna then chimed in, "Miss Ashworth, I just heard Alice mention you were in a wheelchair. Is that true?"
With such a sincere and worried expression on her face, anyone who didn't know better would have thought she was truly concerned for Seraphina.
"I wasn't aware Miss Alice knew so much about my personal affairs. Could it be that..." Seraphina glanced at the two of them, her voice trailing off meaningfully.
