"Mmm." Seraphina nodded lightly.
A flicker of hope appeared in Jacks's eyes, his voice rising with excitement. "I'm going to find her!"
"Wait!" He hadn't taken two steps before Seraphina stopped him.
Jacks turned, looking at Seraphina in confusion. "Seraphina, is something else wrong?"
"Jacks, you'd better not go looking for Miss Aurora right now." Seraphina sat down casually on a stone bench, glanced up at Jacks, and spoke calmly.
"Why?" Jacks hurried back and sat across from Seraphina. "Did Aurora ask you to tell me not to look for her?"
Seeing Jacks's rarely seen, miserable state, Seraphina suddenly understood. 'Miss Aurora must have used all her courage to reject Jacks. It must be agonizing to see the man you like fall from being so high and mighty to this wretched, sorrowful state all for your sake. She couldn't bear to watch, afraid she'd soften in a moment of weakness. Perhaps that's why she left in such a hurry.'
