"Okay, you said it," Jacks said quickly, afraid she would go back on her word.
Aurora Reginald nodded helplessly. "Go on, answer your phone."
Taking his phone out of his pocket, Jacks frowned at the caller ID but answered it anyway. Before he could even speak, a gentle, cheerful female voice came through.
"Hello, Jacks? What are you up to?"
Because Jacks and Aurora Reginald were standing so close, she could hear everything the person on the phone was saying.
Listening to the voice, Aurora guessed the caller was about her age. 'Is that his sister?' she wondered, her mind drifting.
"What is it?" Jacks asked, his eyes locked on Aurora Reginald, his tone impatient.
The woman on the other end was likely taken aback by Jacks's cold tone. Her voice became even more delicate. "Jacks, I miss you. When are you coming back? Auntie Mara misses you, too."
