Wu Yun first took out his phone and searched on QQ Music for "Friendships," an upbeat song released just this July. Since Douyin hadn't been invented yet, the track hadn't reached the point where everyone knew it by heart.
The familiar intro started playing. Wu Yun slowly moonwalked into the center of the field, performing some basic street dance moves to the beat.
As the music reached its climax, Wu Yun dropped into a Thomas flare and began to spin, drawing a wave of screams from the crowd.
Without stopping, Wu Yun transitioned from the flare, rising up to the rhythm and starting a 1990, supporting his entire body weight on one hand as he spun. As inertia and exhaustion began to take over, he fluidly dropped onto his back and went into a windmill.
Using the momentum from the windmill, Wu Yun sprang to his feet just as the music transitioned into a relatively calmer section.
