Joyce just glanced at Jasper Quinn. "Interrupting someone on the phone is incredibly rude, Mr. Quinn!"
"It wasn't on purpose. I just wanted to take Pom-pom."
Jasper Quinn reached out, but the cat insisted on staying with Joyce, meowing and even sticking out its little paws in protest. "I was afraid he'd disturb your important call," he said. "But it looks like he doesn't want to come with me."
"After all these years, he still likes you more. What an ungrateful little traitor."
Joyce was in no mood to discuss the cat with him. "Mr. Quinn, I need to take this call."
"Someone important?"
"My husband!"
The word made both men freeze.
One man's lips curled up slightly, secretly pleased.
The other man's expression faltered, but he remained silent.
'Husband?'
'That word again!'
But Jasper Quinn had heard from Mrs. Monroe long ago that Joyce had practically no men in her life for the past two years, not even a boyfriend. How could she suddenly have a husband?
