The car had barely come to a stop when Zane Hawthorne quickly got out and rushed straight for the elevator. Poor, aging Vance had to break into a trot behind him just to barely make it on.
Inside the private elevator, Zane Hawthorne stared at the button panel, a flicker of irritation crossing his brow. He raised his hand and repeatedly jabbed the 'close door' button.
Vance could sense his anxiousness and quickly tried to reassure him. "It's all right. Lawson said Miss Rhodes is in your office and hasn't left at all."
"You can relax. She's right there; she's not going anywhere."
Previously, Vance would have thought Mr. Hawthorne was truly losing his mind.
But after everything he'd been through with Zane Hawthorne these past couple of days, he could empathize. He completely understood how Zane was feeling.
